That's on you, there were loads of great bands back then, too. SMRC is definitely one of the best bm albums, no doubt, but people give it too much credit for innovation.

I've said it once and I will repeat it again because it's never enough. This record is a pure MASTERPIECE! It is what can be defined as a perfectly executed black metal record and deserves to become a role model for many bands who are still stagnating and trying to replicate an era that's well in the past. My deepest respect for Barshasketh and WTC for the hard work and the unshakable tradition of releasing quality stuff.

+Lifelover I won't agree with the "era that's well in the past" part, for those "well in the past" bands succeded in grasping such a consistent quantity of soul and feeling, that cannot and shall not be forgotten. Indeed a masterpiece this material, and I am very pleased to notice such an extraordinary evolution in the Black Metal scene. But, for what it's worth, let's not throw rocks at the ones who, from nothing and coming out of an era of soft music and soft lyrics, especially, managed to craft such genre, such dogma of leaving. It is equally like trying to spit at those who created the languages, the notions and the formulas by which the world flows.

I received my copy on tape and the shirt from WTC today. Realy love those dark, dramatic arrangements, a very versatile piece of work, that likely won't get me bored any time soon.
The artwork wears the unmistakable thumbpoint of its creator and may appear over-common if you are ie. into Blut Aus Nord as well. Obviously all those icons aren't attached with too much importance but it perfectly catches the ritualistic mood of the music.
I am looking forward to a Vinyl version tbr - hopefully with some full-size booklet or appendix to contain the great artwork.

This whole throwback/revival of cassette tapes makes absolutely no sense to me... tapes sucked 30 years ago and they still suck now. There's no way anyone who grew up with tapes would ever voluntarily go back to them. Might as well go back to watching movies on VHS or Laserdisc.
But hey man, if you like it... more power to ya!

    • @Flammberger

Well I was waiting vor the Vinyl realese back then, thats why I bought only a cassette copy in the first place.
Apart from that I still own lots of releases on cassettes, some of them have not been released otherwise. Some of them I bought on tape, as tapes are sold for less than half the price of a CD & those releases have been sort of interesting but not that important to me.

What`s the new ground here. I found it quite formulaic and zero risk made it kinda boring. Also, whats with the pyramid and the eye, seriously, are we all slaves to this stupid iconography now?

Ceno I'd add very predictable. this goes around in the old well studied resources of most standard bands. definitely needs more violence. too bad for them, because at last, they all are good musicians and have a really clean coordination. anyway, it's a nice effort.
