I wasn't getting an error at all, I would add the cdi and just nothing would happen. Dropping these files 100% worked. So 7 years later this video is still solving problems!
This worked!! Thanks alot. Just dropped the .dll files in the ImgBurn folder where the .exe is. All in there and it worked perfectly after closing and opening the program again. Takes 1 minute using that. Now .CDI files loads with ImgBurn,Thank you!

Thanks for tutorial. Main question is if burning games of larger size than 80min CD-R claims to have is a problem. Like, in your tutorial you're burning a 790MB game to a 736MB disk. Does that affect game quality with compression? Also, I've found worrying about slow burn speed isn't a problem. I've burned a bunch of games at the AWS setting and they play fine. I've read that different disk media is equipped to burn at different speeds. My Ritek disks say they are for 16-24x (or something like that speed).

Can't get it to work for the life of me. They look to burn just fine (usually), but when I put them in the Dreamcast, it just sits on the boot screen for 15-20 seconds and eventually kicks out to the menu and behaves from there on out as if there's no disc in the drive.
To my understanding, only the older model Dreamcast can read backup games. Under the unit, there should be a circle with a number in it, next to the NTSC / PAL. If it's 0 or 1, it will work. 2 and will not. Not sure if this is true though.
Mine's a 1. Every guide I've ever read says the 2s came in in October of that year, so the unit should be fine. I'm starting to wonder if it's the discs.

So I'm running into one issue right now. I'm able to burn games successfully easily and they always run and play. However with sonic adventure 2 I noticed songs just stop working. Like they will play then eventually they just stop. Other sound effects still work but the music just dies. Anyone know why this is happening?
I used 2x write speed like you did just to see if it would work and the game I used burned but it doesn't always boot first time I have to turn the console off and on 3-4 times before it will finally boot then sometimes I'll be half way through a level and it will just stop and go back to the home screen and I have to boot it again. I have a lower write speed of 1x not sure if that would be the better one to use or maybe it's just the quality of CD-R's I am using which are just cheap supermarket own brand ones. I have a few from years ago that require the Utopia boot disk but they all work fine so I know it's not the Console itself.

For Japanese models, the ones that were changed have "Sega Corporation" written on them, while earlier models have "Kabushiki gaisha Sega Enterprises" (in Japanese) written on them. However, some of the later "Sega Corporation" units have "Compatible with Windows CE" written on them instead of "Designed for Windows CE". These units are apparently MIL-CD compatible. I don't know how to tell the difference for American and European models.
UPDATE- The Septemper 2000 model does not play burned games but i bought another one February 2000 model and it does play burned games, I've heard different stories about the burned games being bad for the consoles but others that say with a clean burn that it makes no difference, what do you think?
I have a console manufactured September 2000 that I haven't tried yet, so that worries me a bit. I'll have to find out whether I can do it or not once I get the AV cable for it.
@@mtshark7 I just downloaded it and can confirm it force installed a browser extension and like 2 extra programs. Immediately uninstalled the extra stuff and will run Malwarebytes soon. But I do have ImgBurn now. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Mr. Mario please help. I have been trying to burn sega saturn games with imgburn all the files I have are cue and bin files, however none of the disc I burn work. Any expert advice you could give me on what I might be doing wrong??
xxxACEADAMSxxx Do you have a modded Saturn? If you don't you won't be able to play burn copies, unless you want to try the disc swap trick, which I don't recommend. Saturn modchips are ~$40 and can be installed easily with only one or two solder points.
Thanks i had got a new pc i had planned on transferring everything over. The new pc was defec had to send it back. Unfortunately my old pc finally died. I had forgot about all this. I still use DJ just to verify if im having a issue w a game playing.

some dreamcasts wont play backups check if yours have a number 2 on the buttom if it has it cant play backups (some version 2 dreamcast will play backups)

I use discjuggler to burn DC they work fine, it also works for Sega CD as well.

One problem is that a lot of Dreamcast games are bigger than 700MB and that is the largest a cd can hold so it dose not work

How would a game higher than 700MB burn on to a CD-R, if that's the max on the disc? Over burning can damage the laser I read.

My utopia Bootdisk keeps loading as a CD :( someone help me .. i did it once and it loaded as the utopia stuff .. now its a audio cd :( HELLLLP ME

My external dvd writer (no internal disc drive on my PC as its 2021!) only writes cd-r discs at 10x, 16x, 20x and 24x would 10x be OK you think?

Do not install Imgburn. The installer now has open candy and floods your PC with malware and viruses. I hope they fix this issue soon.

I said just burn it at the lowest speed, it increments it to the slowest your burner can do it at.

Sounds like you're playing in composite, that's unrelated to your game disc.

It should show a 0 or 1 in a circle next to the NTSC. It's on the bottom of your DreamCast.
If it is a 2, SEGA removed support for the MIL-CD format.
