Fascinating podcast. Lots of points that really get you thinking - "what, when, where, why, how?" ...Andrew Gold is a real campaigner for free-speech broadcasting. Long may it continue.
Stoked to see Andrew Gold on your program this week. I first saw Andrew Lownie from his podcast, talking about Mountbatten and Kincora. I immediately googled him and that led me to this podcast about 6 months ago. I am almost caught up on all past episodes, they are fantastic. I have also recently, two months ago found Shauna's The Vintage Readers I have commented on a few of her episodes, like right after you interviewed Kitty Kelley, she started reviewing her book The Royals. You absolutely need to get her on your show!!! She has a question for Valentine Lowe on an article he wrote about Harry and Meghan
I enjoyed this episode much more than I expected. I found this podcast after I went down a rabbit hole of Andrew Lownie’s talks about his Guy Burgess book. I’ve seen Andrew Gold (AG) on TH-cam previously but I’ve always been sceptical because of his use of “woke” in a context that appears to be reactionary. Like many highly educated people with left political views, I’m aware that a lot of reactionary commentary on transgender people is uninformed and destructive. (From the perspective of having previously closely followed Australian court litigation to authorise gender affirming care for trans children, with all the relevant expert medical evidence. Historian Noah Riseman wrote a great book on the history of trans people in Australia.) This conversation provided more insight into AG’s views. I value taking an evidence based approach, especially when new information becomes available. The discussion of confessions reminded me of Michel Foucault’s work on the shift of confessions from the church to psychiatry and psychology.
Hello from New Zealand . . . I found this channel after seeing Andrew Lownie on Andrew Gold's "Heretics" programme. This interview with Andrew Gold revealed to me greater depths in Gold's work and thinking, which I had not gleaned from his own podcasts, which tend to be more light-hearted. Thank you for giving Andrew Gold this opportunity to discuss things in a serious and detailed manner.

Monarchy must be above politics. How Clive imagines monarchy to work with Harry saying what ever he thinks? Even "meddling" Charles didn't do that. -people want a smaller monarchy, to cost less, they don't want their wealth to show up in their face. Showing wealth is Harry&Meghan's lifestyle. -one of the problems for Harry&Meghan was money. They want a lot of it, which their position in hierarchy doesn't grant them. But they, in this day and age, can't be working royals and earn money sideways. People won't accept that. -last year or year before there was a poll with the result saying that people in the UK don't think all William's children should be full part of the monarchy. And the Irish nanny working in Boston who was convicted of shaken baby syndrome because she didn’t cry at her trial. In fact the child’s mother was the offender.
I was born in 1961- you know when men were men and women were women and no one was in the least bit confused. We were angry and afraid by the end of the 1970's when our awareness dawned and opinions began to take form - but I can tell you we never described those with differing views from our own as "hateful" or "haters". We just accepted that they were wrong and we were right. 😀
Let's remember some great words by Oscar Wilde , ' I have grown to love secrecy. It seems to be only one thing that can make modern life mysterious and marvellous to us. The commonest thing is delightful if only one hides it. ' Wise words.
@@pameladigaetano8119 Thank you. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Laura Lee or / and Neil McKenna come on the show to talk about the great Irish man. I especially enjoyed Lee's.
Thanks gents, it's like finding out different friends already know each other! Very interesting topics. Do people tell different secrets to different people, e.g. personal ones to discreet close friends and other people's secrets to a more general audience? Is pattern seeking similar to group forming in the sense that it's been vital for our survival, but also causes us huge problems too? I think I'll have to buy the book to find out...
As for what to cover - I am disturbed by the actions of Harry grabbing men’s nipples and twisting them. He did it twice in his recent trip to Africa in addition to touching that young girl. To me - he is coming from a place of privilege, touching people who can’t do much about it. It’s very disturbing! One of the men he grabbed at twice was a player during the seated volleyball. As for that young girl, it is not appropriate for a strange man to place his hands on the arms and shoulders of a child. Male or email! Of course - no one will or feels they can say anything like DONT! - because he’s a royal prince.
Just look forwards to your next programme, you changed my point of views. Like I am a monarchist and I could not hear any wrong about them. Now I am very interested in there wrongs. But is it the firm or the top people whom are doing strange things
I really Laura Thompson books! I have brought A different class of murder and the Agatha Christie one that Laura has written. I think I have brought these books because I like the tropics that Laura writes about and also she sounds like she really liked enjoyed writing them.

Thanks guys. Remember to say ppl must push the like button. Don't know why ppl don't but yes.
Yes good point Christa, and thanks for watching 😊
We will.
I was really looking forward to this one. Great to have Andrew here and the thumbnail game is on point once again. Would be great to see some new merch from the lads.
Keep it up ! Content is as great as always!
Many thanks Stephen- what sort of merch do you think we should do?
@@philmcraig Some classy modern shirts, pins maybe coffee mugs. Stuff that all the lads and lasses would be interested about.
@@stephentaylor8490 There are some mugs already - there is a link to the Etsy store in the episode bio
Love love Andrew Gold.
I stopped watching AG's first podcast due to him bashing PH and MM on a regular basis, but I love his new Heretics YT channel, suggesting this channel to many viewers during Andrew L's interview. So happy your numbers have increased...you need MORE! Also, because of your interview with Kitty Kelly, I went in deep on all her interviews going way back!
So glad you're finding out back catalogue.
Courageous Authors Rule OK! Thank you Gentlemen.
Thank you.
Always enjoy you two scoundrels ❤😂❤
That's the nicest thing said to me today!
And the Irish nanny working in Boston who was convicted of shaken baby syndrome because she didn’t cry at her trial. In fact the child’s mother was the offender.
Oh yes I remember that now
I was born in 1961- you know when men were men and women were women and no one was in the least bit confused.
We were angry and afraid by the end of the 1970's when our awareness dawned and opinions began to take form - but I can tell you we never described those with differing views from our own as "hateful" or "haters".
We just accepted that they were wrong and we were right. 😀
Absolutely! Thats my experience too 😊
Let's remember some great words by Oscar Wilde , ' I have grown to love secrecy. It seems to be only one thing that can make modern life mysterious and marvellous to us. The commonest thing is delightful if only one hides it. '
Wise words.
It's in my book, that quote!
@@andrewgoldhereticsBrilliant ! Did you enjoy chatting with Andrew and Phil ? Great guys
@@jonathanbrewer7072 Loved every second
Love the words from Oscar Wilde. Generally tend to agree with very many comments by Oscar Wilde. Thanks 😊
@@pameladigaetano8119 Thank you. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Laura Lee or / and Neil McKenna come on the show to talk about the great Irish man. I especially enjoyed Lee's.
I found you guys through Andrew’s podcast ❤
You’re so welcome Rosie
Welcome.
Yes, shauna is fabulous
She's a guest next month.
Many thanks Jim 😊
It's a stimulating read.
Sir James Goldsmith - You'll get 2 shows out of him.
I second a show on Sir James Goldsmith.
Shauna is great 👍
She’s joining us - and we are joining her! - in a couple of weeks! 😊
Shauna is lots of fun, it would be lovely if you invited her.
We’re on it😊
We have. Later this month.
I thought that was odd too!
Interesting interview with AG. I enjoy your discussions, they are never boring, always entertaining.
Thanks very much.
Amazing podcast my all time favourite many interesting subjects. Many thanks guys
Thanks so much Martin😊
Could you please invite Norman Baker, many thanks.
Yes we want to get him back - have you checked him in our episode 53? We should have put his name in the title!
Just look forwards to your next programme, you changed my point of views. Like I am a monarchist and I could not hear any wrong about them. Now I am very interested in there wrongs. But is it the firm or the top people whom are doing strange things
Many thanks Jacqueline. We are all about open debate and changing minds here!
As a monarchist I think they should uphold he highest values if they are to command trust and support.
Blimey, I'll never look at a pdf attachment the same way after this one
😂
I really Laura Thompson books! I have brought A different class of murder and the Agatha Christie one that Laura has written. I think I have brought these books because I like the tropics that Laura writes about and also she sounds like she really liked enjoyed writing them.
Yes she's a terrific writer and a truly nice person too !
We're hoping to have her back as great fans of her.
That hour went past far too quickly - I could have listened to this podcast for a few more hours.
Thanks Kari we must get Andrew back soon!
Yes he's a very interesting man.
The issue of diplomatic immunity and Yvonne Fletcher.
Great idea Eileen 😊
We're still keen to look at Lockerbie too.
