Correct hammer the head and it turns left for you instead of you hammering and turning a normal metal cap screwdriver.. no good mechanic just sledges a rotor maybe he was replacing anyway but we have tools for a reason.

Example: if you have old shoes that have a worn insole and ruin ur socks, are u going to keep wearing ur ruined socks with new shoes or wear new socks with ruined shoes?? You dnt u get new both so it last alot longer. In this case time ruined rotors so your old rotor is going to ruin your new pads
Well if the brake rotor was not junk before you whacked on it with a hammer it is now! A couple of taps on the screws would have got the screws broken free AND saved the brake rotor.

I guess you just have to be careful whacking it, maybe put a block of wood up there before you hit it if you’re gonna reuse the rotors. but I was putting on new rotors, so it didn’t matter. It’s not gonna hurt anything to hit it. Those screws aren’t that strong you’re not working on a power wheels
@@save2rave61 They should have used an allen, since it sits way below the surface, you can get more leverage and would drastically decrease the chances of stripping.
@@joshewadowty9964 there are two other holes you can see that serve the purpose you are referring to. The screws in the video are used during assembly to hold the rotor on while moving down the line. If you were to use the holes with the screws in them, you’d bolt the rotor back to the hub. Mechanics achieve the same result by placing a lug nut on to hold the rotor during assembly.
they are like the little metal washers that you put on the lug bolts to hold the rotor flush to the hub. i personally think they are ridiculous as well but i believe if they arent on the rotor will slip a bit.
NOPE ! The back three threads are usually corroded really badly and get seized up if you try to unscrew them NORMALLY. They are too long for a reason. The purpose is to eventually strip the head rendering you dead in the water because now you cant get the rotor off or put the wheel back on WITHOUT IT WOBBLING BADLY. PERFECT DESIGN ! ! AND YOU OWN IT ! !

The manufacturers put them on to keep the rotor from falling off on the assembly line. After that their purpose is to rust in place and make your brake job turn into a two day project.

Being a Mechanic, I use vids like this to show my customers why the guy down the street can do it cheaper.... Impact screwdriver works best.

These screws need JIS Crosshead #3 bit and NOT the Phillip. You are using Phillips screw driver and a hammer. Both wrong tools for the task at hand.

Your car takes harsher beatings driving on the road. A hammer won’t fuck your bearing or suspension up they’re built to take some dmg.

Or use the rounded part of a ball ping hammer on the screw and another large hammer to whack the ball ping hammer works every time

Why do the automakers keep using an easy to strip, Philips head for those two screws in the first place?? Why not a hex socket instead?

I have never seen screws in the rotor, what is the point? The rotor is sandwiched between the hub and the wheel and held in place with 5 lugs!

Rip rotor , disc was dented by alley OOP , impact screwdriver or full tang screwdriver with sledge hammer is better option.
