I’m in the process of getting my stationary engineers license. I went to turner trade school in 2020 and it’s 2024 I’m not gonna lie I got lazy and didn’t take the test. Now I’m getting my shit together and gonna take review classes at turner school to go take the test. Everyone y’all got this let’s get this money

Amazing video. I'm a Stationary Engineer out here in LA (LOCAL 501) with an Unlimited Boilers license and Universal EPA 608 License. I love my trade. I'd love to work in New York. The trade varies out here. Most jobs out here don't require a boilers license.

I’m very interested in getting into local 501 and begin the apprenticeship program. Unfortunately they aren’t accepting applications until summer of 2025. Is it worth it to wait til then and hope I get accepted or get my epa and steam license on my own and land a job? I am currently a facilites tech for a mall in which we very rarely deal with our boilers/compressors/ and machinery. Just plunging toilets and changing lights/ballasts

@@outofsrvice Look out for LA County's job bulletins. We're opening our apprenticeship program soon. We're represented by Local 501 as well. Definitively, try to get your epa and steam license early. I would always recommend that.

I'd relocate for sure, too bad coming from another country is so difficult. Stationary engineering is a great career, and NYC is my favorite place on earth.
As for the age that people should be taught about this stuff, I wish somebody had told me about this 15-20 years ago. My life might have been so much better if I hadn't spent so much time working for peanuts in security. I love skyscrapers, and would like nothing more than to join the engineering staff of one.

How many people went through all of the reading material? For Maryland I got the books they are like 5000 pages each. It would take years to go through all that material and know it. If that's the way everyone does it, I am reading and taking notes currently.

How does a normal Joe like me with no union connections get started? ive been a contractor for the DoE for the last 4 years, have gone to Honeywell to train on commercial gas leak detec systems, and have worked with boiler controls and all that. The salary is decent but i have to come out of my pocket for a lot of expenses, and i have no medical benefits or any of that. Im in my mid 30s no drugs and love to learn... It seems almost impossible to get into a situation where i can actually grow and send my kid to college. I dont even know where to start?

I’m a doorman/porter in a high-rise building looking to become a stationary engineer (similar to Khalil when he started out). My union (32BJ) offers courses and a building engineer track, including HVAC training and preparation for FDNY certs and exams (like refrigeration license). Would any of this training be relevant or count as experience for becoming a stationary engineer?

    • @tauristech

@@leanmachine3251 same here. I almost got caught up in the free, free, free thing of doing it with 32bj, but went to turner and put in the work. With 32bj, first it's doing electricity and plumbing basics to qualify for ac1, then it's 3 ac classes, then 3 license prep classes. That's about 2 1/2 years to even get to the written exam. With turner, I got to the written exam in 6 months, the practical exam in 8 months.
