When I trained with push-hands we develop a strong "bridge" where our forearms take hits without collapsing towards the head. If the angle of the arm is a little wider than 90° it's solid and gets you closer for a fast parry/grab and simultaneous counter strike. Side attacks are blocked with turning from the core and we develop fast twitch turning speed and foot work so we don't rely on arm strength but whole body mechanics.
Ground work scenes were once less favored, mainstream and liked by martial arts movies fans. They are a lot less flashy and clear to see and much harder to film. This scene was very ahead of its time having a good balance of both groundwork and old school strikes.
Your commentary on the poor technique of the specific moves actually makes me appreciate the scene more. Because I don’t know much about BJJ, when I saw each choke or lock, I simply thought that it would be impossible for the villain to escape without injury but did so just to move onto the next fight sequence. But as you point out the poor technique of each move it makes more sense for how he escaped each time.
Very good breakdown! I've liked Donnie Yen in movies. He's the real deal as a fighter on and off the screen. IMO at their prime. Bruce Lee would have had his hands full fighting Yen.
I think one of the fights in Special ID has an extensive Donnie Yen vs Andy On grappling fight scene. I believe it’s toward the end but they spend a solid minute on the ground I think. As a BJJ person it’s great to watch!
I had a guy cover up to block a head kick with one hand in one of my fights. It knocked him out through his hand, so I definitely wouldn't recommend using one hand to cover up as a defense.
Brains are floating in liquid, which is why football helmets don't stop concussions either. Any hit that jars your head quickly makes the brain bounce in the liquid against the skull causing the trauma no matter how well the helmet or arm was protecting your skull itself (but you still have to protect the skull anyway). Brain motion in the direction of the kick helps reduce the jarring effect.
Can you make a video reaction to the final fight of "Once Upon a Time in High School: The Spirit of Jeet Kune Do " ? is an old korean drama film about high school bullying, and is one of the most realistic fights ever done
I like most of your comments, it’s reality and informative, but the part of using one arm to block the kick is available because Kung Fu and Karate has the training of arm conditioning, which means build up a pair of bridge arm (strong arm) can block the kicks.
All those head kicks and liver kicks you see on movies and outside of movies if anyone ever took 1,000 of those as if they’re a tree that would be out of this world off the charts impressive Tree and steel doors may not hit back but they’re more durable than the humans body which is why humans have to fight back because they’re not durable as the tree to withstand heavy blows from kicks and punches
You do know this is movies right ?? Stunt fighting is different from real fighting it’s an whole art in itself .As a stunt man certain blocks and moves are done for the camera angles only in the heat and speed of the moment remembering-a whole choreo no one is going to be super technical ...real fighting don’t look good on camera at all it’s too cluttered and sloppy. if real technical moves were applied there will be 10x more injuries then it is already with the speed and pace of the choreo. This is MOVIE action ,trust me some of the best fighters I met were stunt men(Michael jai white, r Marcus Taylor etc) it would make more sense to react to a ufc or boxing match then a movie fight that’s made to make fake fighting look real😅🤔.
Yes that arm bar /juji gatame was disgusting and they should DEFINITELY BE ASHAMED ! lol dudes elbow was like nowhere to be seen they were sooo disconnected that wouldn't have done barely anything it looked like he was trying to do some weird wristlock against his balls and pass it off as a straight arm lock sigh smh
I bet 5 internet dollars they had a conversation about the speed of the fight and bodies flying around and specifically chose a position where nothing could happen to the actor's arm even with a lapse of control.
Honestly, I think they chose that armbar entry because it looks big and dynamic for the camera with minimal to no injury risk, goes for everything else in that fight scene, it was made so Collin chou could escape the submissions, or else there wouldn't be a fight
@@bboyaddicted i mean I see your point but if they were really thinking that way wouldn't they have used the same logic with the potential paralyzing fully locked triangle slam multiple times ? As in either not having it fully locked and/or not multiple dynamic slams that would've clearly knocked out dude on bottom or worse . That's assuming that guy in triangle hadn't passed out already . Idk still think it could've been done better even with flashy Hollywood elements they going for.
Donnie yen has around 16 different martial arts background......legendary plus he was a breakdancer and has taken around 20 different dancing lessons

Loved seeing the grappling break down, wasn't expecting it.

@@dadada486 agreed!
Really cool breakdown. Recommendation for the fight scenes in ong bak 2, particularly the drunken style one.
If this review is anything but “greatest fight scene ever,” our feud is back on.
Alright the feud is off.
I really appreciate the “corrected” moves at the end of the video
You know what's funny is that there is another reactor named Burridge Kickboxing and he said the exact same about the armbar lol

I'm glad it illuminated some things! Thanks for watching!
I love that after Donnie got his block rocked, his was like "aii bet, prepare to be done so dirty, it's Tekken worthy".

Haha yeah but we can't be sure tho.
Yen would definitely win

I love this movie. Thanks for breaking it down.
One of my favorite videos of yours. The reaction when he hit the heel hook made me laugh out loud.

I'll need a link to that lol

Scenic fights fight scene breakdown broke down this fight to but hey I'm down for watching this kind of content too
That was great fun.
18:25 suplex
If I don't let him grab my arm, the director will shout: "Cut!!!"

Thanks for the input! I do know it is a movie, but I thought I'd show how the techniques should be performed in reality
Mate in reality this would probably be the closet thing in a real situation, all moves ain't perfect when in a real fight
My God you look exactly like the youtuber coffeezilla I thought it was him for a second lol 😆
🤣🤣🤣
Great movie nice video.
Donnie probably doit on purpose the heel hook for safety reasons
Awesome breakdown. Watch Donnie vs Andy on or Donnie vs Nicholas in raging fire. Or react to old old school Conor McGregor karate ufc fights

@@MagickArmory It's not that deep.
MOVIES, need different angles and exaggerated movements for entertainment visual goodness ,thats all.
I agree!
Otherwise the camera can't see the whole technique
Donnie says to Colin "You're finished"
Thank you!!
Awe yeah, Chris pine kicking butt again
Any fight scene from The Raid would be cool
