I once tailgated into a random business just to see if it would work. It absolutely did. I walked around a bit, sat in the break room a while, and then just walked out. Still have no idea what they actually do there

Tailgating is another reason why it is important to disable user accounts as soon as an employee is terminated. A former employee with active credentials can do serious damage if someone mistakenly lets them in the door.

i know what's tailgating and i never let anyone go with me to a working place . i used to work for a big company that did pan tests and not on our computers , but in real life . love your posts .keep doing that .

I know an elderly person with dementia that had their SS checks stolen by changing the bank online. They didn't know for over 3 months! I figure the scammers called and told them there was fraud on the account and wanted to verify the account information...after that, their phone was ringing every 10 minutes with more scammers!

Just to remind you how powerful social engineering is.
I've called Sys admins before on their personal phone with a phone number (spoofed) of a co-worker telling me which kind of software with version etc they had running on the server.
Social engineering is a scary attack people, and that's coming from the person that's pretty good at them.

I want to do this to one of my friends, I always tell him to be aware of those scammers and hackers, but he seems doesn't care.
Decentralise every thing, disconnect (not from internet!). What I mean is to not link your every bank account, twitter account, and whatever else to one email address. That's a BAD PRACTICE to link every account to one email address it not only makes easy for the hacker to gain info about you, but free apps from big companies collect scary amount of data, and if a breach occurs then it will be so easy for the hacker to pretend as YOU! so DON'T LINK EVERY ACCOUNT TO ONE EMAIL ADDRESS

Ex identity protection specialist here, and a range of other things, I used to sell software to CEOs and VPs of companies like Fiji or home depot, a team of people would call over time speaking to secretaries and collecting info and writing notes for the next guy to use, you could even manual call and keep seperate notes. we would speak to different secretaries in different offices and eventually get to who we were looking for. It could be an HR director, or we could even convince employees to install things in an effort to help make their bosses life easier and make themselves look good. I was also a political fund collector, ANYWAY I just wanna say that it is fucking..... CRAZY! Just how much power is being demonstrated here. You could communicate and establish connections with people you SHOULD have no business with, and if you could think outside the box to help these people, CEOs, safety managers, tech leads and other team managers, if you could get off your ass and DO something, you could get lines to these people, and "get your foot in the door" STARTING at the top. I'm not talking about hacking here, I'm talking about MAKING something, or figuring SOMETHING out, SOME way to be useful to these people, and simply present yourself. But presenting yourself in an impressive manner, to someone that SHOULD be years out of your scope.
Think about it, you could even just ask these people to work for them for free, "I'll do anything for you, any task you want to give me, it's done. I just want to be useful and be around."
The amount of value you could get from the exlerience alone. The people youd meet the things youd learn.
If you asked 300 people if you could work for free SOMEONE would say yes I'm sure

@NetworkChuck can you do a video on whether extensions like honorlock are a cause for privacy any concerns? I hear that it is very invasive and I am skeptical about using it on my personal computer and home network.
Someone hacked an old account of my friend and asked for some credentials under impression he's going to use it in a contest. I though that's weird, but I didn't see the red flag immediately so I handed it out, not even thinking. As soon as he asked me to tell him codes next time I recognised that and I immediately knew something's wrong, and cut the conversation, just straight said I'm not doing this. Literally 30 minutes later I learned that the friend told his old account got hacked (he lost access to that account a long time ago, forgot his password, so made a new one). I almost fell for it, because not only I didn't even realise it was an old account (not in use anymore), I didn't even see the obvious red flag right at the beginning, which is "why would he actually need someone's e-mail address or phone number for that purpose" (I don't remember exactly, but he asked for phone number). At first I thought, that's strange, my friends don't usually ask for phone number, so I asked what he needs it for. I didn't realise "contest" wasn't the right answer. If he said "I just want to keep you in my contacts just to be sure", it wouldn't actually raise red flag. I don't actually need to say that I didn't receive any sort of text of that kind to my number whatsoever. Next time I'm gonna be a little bit more prepared and I'll have to actually look for old and inactive friends accounts (like try to message them and see if they respond), and if I find those accounts inactive after let's say a week, I'm gonna delete that from friend list. That only applies to duplicate accounts actually, and I need at least one of them respond as being active to take an action.

Here in Norway we have something called "Gule sider" Where u can search up a phone number or a name and their address, workplace and yearly earnings will show up. You can also choose to remove parts of your info on the website. Me for instance have removed myself completely from the site.
