I'm kinda jealous how your GS300 doesn't have any rust at all.
It's been an Arizona car its whole life, and we certainly don't get much in the way of snow here (i.e. we get none at all where I live). Heck, it was over 80 degF today - great weather, at least when its not summer! Thanks for watching!

PSA: THEY CHANGED THE PART NUMBERS: the new ones are 12262-46090 and/or 12261-46051 I WENT TO LEXUS because my is300 with a 2jz-ge had its pvc hose held on by tape by previos owner lol, brand new from the dealership is like 50 bucks 👍🏼
yeah, it's about $40 - $50 online. Ridiculous price just for a hose! I bought some ventilation hose from Autozone for $4 bucks. However, I noticed the OEM hose has a metal restrictor inside the hose. I'm not sure how important that is and going to affect the car for not having it.
can we get more information on this ? I purchased the OEM hose from Lexus and it didn’t come with the metal restrictor , will this have effect the performance ?
@@shmoop2jzge799 I would call the dealership and ask the service guy since you bought it from Lexus. If the hose you purchased from Lexus is a new model (new part number as well), the restrictor may be unnecessary. How much did you pay for the hose?

Hey the video was super helpful but just a question. I replaced the first hose you replaced with just some normal hosing with the same width specs and length. Do those bends restrict it a certain way to where I should be replacing them with the OEM part? I noticed the one you have is all bent up and stiff to fit better but I just used some hosing from autozone because it broke when I touched it.

Aka Stealership lmao I remember when I took my NAT gs300 to the stealership and they wanted to charge me 1100 to change out the throttle body cause I overlooked the Pcv valve and it was causing my car to die after acceleration poor idle too never the less I looked over my engine bay again and found my hose had came off from boost afterwards I showed back up to the stealership and I laughed and said I needed a new throttle body huh? And did a fat rip and drove home laughing.
Dont knock the dealer, they could of declined repairs, and that could of been a courtesy patch. You weren't involved
It could have been if it weren't for the fact that I have all of the original service records and the original owner of the car was invoiced for that exact hose less than a year before I purchased the vehicle (per the invoice for the particular service in question). Thanks for watching!

Have to replace the ventilation hose on the passenger side but am missing a clip, is there a certain size or type of clip to get or can I get the general set of clamps from my local auto parts store?
I'd hit up Toyota or Lexus for the clamp - it's a constant tension style and while a small worm gear one may work, I always use OE or OE style. Thanks for watching!

thank you for the video.. I notice the engine bay is nice and clean, how do you wash the engine?
This car hasn't had my full cleaning treatment yet so the engine bay is not quite as nice as my other vehicles' (there's actually some pretty nasty buildup on the underside of the hood from a radiator hose leak in the past), but when I'm doing a deep cleaning I rinse down the engine bay, spray it down with diluted Simple Green (~1:1 with water) let it soak for a minute, and agitate with various brushes and old wash mitts for dedicated engine bay use. I then rinse off, dry all accessible parts with a towel, allow the rest of the components to dry by starting and running the vehicle, and then apply dressings - spray wax for all painted parts and shiny plastics, and a plastic/rubber dressing for all grained plastics and hoses. Would those hose cause throw Evap emission code if cracked ?
There is a potential for any vacuum leak to cause an Evap system code to pop, and if the PCV hoses are cracked they should definitely be replaced, along with any others that are broken. The Evap vacuum system and solenoid itself is on the passenger side of the engine bay, with the solenoid mounted to the airbox. I would also thoroughly inspect those lines to see if they are cracked as well. Hope that helps, and thanks for watching!
Hi, thanks for the info, great vid and very clean engine by the way. I have bought a used gs 300 1998 same engine but noticed there was no hose on the passenger side vent, what is the effect without that hose? I am also getting engine ping/knock any common cause for this engine and what to do. Currently the one i bought has 100k miles on it
Matt Inducil unfortunately Those Toyota Lexus engines are very vacuum sensitive. That being said, you’re going to half to put that hose where he should then take the car for a spin in here if the knocking/pinging still there. Another suggestion is to “seafoam” the car via a vacuum line (any line that sucks in air while motor running obviously) and after procedure, drive the car again to see if pinging goes away. Also if you have a scanner, plug it to see if you have any codes (that will be the first thing to do actually), but if you don’t have one you can go to your closest/nearest “autozone” for they’ll hook up a scanner for ya. Man best luck to you and don’t forget that you have an awesome car that if well maintained it’s almost “bulletproof.” Cheers mate

I recently had my timing belt changed out and idle is slightly shaky and my mechanic said its probably from vaccume lines. Do you have a video or explanation on how to connect the vaccume lines in the correct spots for a vvti 2jzge

Was there a reason you didnt replace the other PVC valve?
These motors only have one on the intake side. On the exhaust side that’s just a vent to recirculate blow by back into the motor to get burnt.

You can't use this particular one since the older 2JZ-GE without VVTi uses a grommet and push in valve instead of a thread in one. The push-in one might be metal, though, as it is for several other Toyota inline engines with similar setups. Hope that helps, and thanks for watching!

If your PCV valve is faulty, you may see symptoms as benign as oil consumption or decreased fuel economy, but over time these compound and can cause engine damage. Thanks for watching!
Ah I see, thanks for the clarification. Instead of replacing these hoses and the valve can they be cleaned with petrol or other cleaning compounds?
The hoses dry and crack so those must be replaced. You can, in theory, clean the PCV valve using a very heavy duty solvent, cleaning swabs, and a good bit of time, but at the $10 or so it costs to replace them, it makes more sense to swap out for a new OEM one. Hope that helps!
For hose 1 I couldn’t find. Any suggestions of what to look up? Is it also called a breather hose? I bought hose 2 I have a 2001 is300 literally changing those same exact hoses

I have a1993 non turbo supra and my pcv valve broke off,it was plastic,can the base come off the rocket cover?,because it just spins around..thanks
Yes, but you should take the rocker cover off to ensure that nothing falls into the valvetrain, since to remove the rest you'll need to break it apart and the purchase a new valve and grommet. Thanks for watching!
watching this video becase my hoses actually broke in half when changing some seals, but i have an is 300. im having trouble finding the exact part number for my model, although it is the same engine im not sure if the part numbers are interchangable. any tips?

Hey redonkilaus I'm having a bad problem with my car tonight, it's making a loud knocking noise as I drive, the knocking speeds up the faster I go. When I apply the brakes the knocking stops. What do you think it could be and could that be a bad wheel bearing?
If the knocking stops as soon as you hit the brakes (but while still moving) then I don't see that being a wheel bearing. My best guess is that it is something within the brake system making the noise if that is indeed the case. However, if the noise just slows down when you slow down and speeds up when you speed up, then it could definitely be a wheel bearing. Another thing to check is revving the car in neutral to ensure that there is no knock that speeds up or down then, as that would point to an engine issue.
Can you say what the “other”’plastic valve thing is - looks like another PCV valve? Why not change that too?
If you're talking about the one on the other (pass. side) valve cover, that is just a breather - it is pressed into the cover and there is no valve inside, so no wear item to replace. Hope that helps, and thanks for watching!

I believe it will, but I can't vouch for that 100% since it's been a long time since I had my hands on an IS. You can consult your Lexus/Toyota dealer when ordering the parts to confirm fitment, however, or enter your specific year and model in a Lexus online parts store and it will run a compatibility check for you. What does that hose run to. What’s the other valve on intake?
The PCV hose runs between PCV valve and intake for oil vapors and crankcase pressure to be vented and recycled. The other hose between the covers just bridges them, since they two cam covers are entirely divorced on the 2JZ. Thanks for watching!
What are your thoughts on oil catch cans? The gs300 is prob boosted by now, but during this time did you consider installing one? From a reading a bit online, seems like it would be a good thing to have one on.
They are definitely a good thing to have, particularly if your vehicle is known for significant blowby and you don't want to coat your intake and back of your valves with oil and the resulting carbon buildup. That said, a quality, filtered catch can that recirculates to your intake to pull vacuum on the PCV system is the only way I would go on a vehicle that isn't heavily modified, and that same setup also applies to many that are extremely modified as well, depending on whether a recirculated or VTA setup is best for a particular situation.
Most Toyota and Lexus vehicles aren't known for excessive blowby or heavily flowing PCV systems, and I don't run one on my Lexus (still stock as my daily driver) or my turbo 4Runner. On the 4Runner, I do have a check valve setup in order to prevent the positive manifold pressure from making its way into the crankcase and inadvertently pressurizing it - I've had several fellow turbo RZ guys ask questions about why their newly-turbocharged trucks aren't running properly, and 9/10 times its vacuum and PCV routing issues. Some engines (Nissan VQ, especially the VQ35 in the 350Z, for example) are known for massive oil consumption issues through the PCV system, and a catch can helps to curb some of the side effects of this, but it really comes down to monitoring your PCV system for flow and determining if it is suitable for your particular application.

Hi I'm having a problem with my 01 is300 i took apart the throttle body to get to the spark plugs because of a misfire noticed liquid down in there, so I cleaned it up and put new plugs in and I also replaced the tps but my car wont start.

I clicked on the link to that pcv valve for my 92 Lexus sc300 but it says it doesnt fit on amazon. Its a 2jz ge engine as well did it change for that yr lexus sc300?
I believe the PCV valve type changed when the transition to the VVT-i engines occurred, so the valve number for your engine is 12204-46010 according to Lexus. You also need to change the grommet at the same time - I believe it's 90480-18001, but you should double check with a dealer or Amazon before ordering. Hope that helps, and thanks for watching!
Thank you for the reply and part numbers I'm going to order tomorrow. Do you think I should get those 2 hoses changed as well when I do the grommet and pcv valve? My car has 273,000 miles and I have no idea when all of those things were changed last since I have just bought the car.
If you're talking about the PCV hoses, then yes, you more than likely should change them unless they've been done recently. In fact, any vacuum hose you touch to do work on the vehicle at that mileage should probably be replaced so as to avoid some nasty vacuum leaks (of course, if you don't want to pay OEM Toyota parts prices, you can replace many with bulk silicone line). Hey redonKiLaus does the shape of the PCV valve matter? I went to advance auto to get the PCV valve but its a metal straight valve and that part number shows a L shaped valve online. I have also googled it and looked on amazon. They all show a L shaped valve that's plastic. When I went back to advance auto i was told "the shape of the PCV valve doesn't matter and the hose can stretch around". It looks like a PCV valve for a 92 Lexus SC400 when I put in that vehicle type on shop.advanceautoparts.com

redonKiLaus do you also have a video on changing o2 sensors? I have read on clublexusforums and seen other vids that there are 3 Sensors on a 92 SC300? I don't have any check engine lights but I've noticed my car slightly lost fuel economy after changing the iridium ngk plugs, ngk wires, and rotor, during timing belt and water pump change. Do you think it could be the sensors? Can I change just 1 or do all 3? The shop told me I had 2 but after browsing online, everyone is saying 3.
I would try resetting the ECU to allow it to recalibrate after a tune-up; simply disconnect the car's battery for about 30 minutes and then drive it for a week or so and see how your gas mileage after that point - if not increased, then the O2 sensors are a likely culprit for the car running rich, but there is no good way to diagnose without a wideband O2 sensor installed (or OBD2 capability, which is only 1996+ cars). The SC should have either 3 or 4 O2 sensors, can't remember which, but I typically recommend replacing in pairs (i.e. primary sensors together) or all together.
Which are the 2 primary sensors?
They are the two on the header (exhaust manifold) that are mounted before the catalytic converters. They control the fuel mixture, so they are the ones that would be causing any fuel efficiency drop. If you don't mind me asking, what are you averaging currently? That would better help me gauge if something is truly wrong or if there is just a sensor or other ECU control issue causing the drop.
I will find out how much I'm losing, all I've noticed is I fill up a day sooner then I usually do after going back and forth from work every week during a 5 day work week. So like 11 miles of a loss. I will find out exactly and get back to you.
Are the hoses Nitrile rubber?
The OEM hoses are a polymer blend - I'm not sure what exactly the makeup is, but they feel like they are composed partly of silicone, potentially with nitrile as well. Thanks for watching!
haha wait wtf, i searched "2jz ge burning oil" this was the first result, funny thing is both of those vacuum lines are cracked but only those 2. must be a common issue. i also electrical taped that tube in the same way. and i can say its a b**** to get on, going to fix now see if that will fix my missing oil?

@@redonKiLaus i lose about 5 liters of oil every 8000-10000km, it doesn't put a drop on the ground and it still has okay power, this is why i think its burning it. i seem to have some exhaust smoke, but i have a 3 cat delete with a slightly louder muffler with more flow, so i expected it to kinda run shitty. maybe burn some oil, but if i stop topping it up on oil it will hit the low oil level light before my next oil change
@@fallinbeef The exhaust won't make it burn any more oil, and if you're getting blue smoke that's no bueno. Definitely something going on in that engine.

My 94 sc300 needed a new pcv valve, but unlike this 2jz the valve pops out with the grommet, I was screwing it out for 30 seconds like this video until I realized it pops out with flat head..
Yep, the non-VVT-i engines have the grommeted PCV valve like most earlier Toyota engines...the 3RZ in my turbo 4Runner is the same way.

Just got mine done, passanger side hose (#2) was hardened and cracked and leaking some oil vapours. I did replace a whole lot of other vacuum hoses before, this one was missed apparently.BTW, the passenger side hose #2 was changed in 06.1998 but according to the catalog, only for the european models. The new part number is 12262-46080 from 06.98 and up, and it's not just a hose: there's some kind of brass/copper thing pressed into it, with a small hole. I guess it would be some kind of a valve, similar to the PCV valve, or maybe a choke?
