i love the essen christmas market ... honestly for me its my favorite in the area i like it way more then cologne or düsseldorf. i come from west of the rhine and i drove with my girlfriend always to essen for the christmas market. i love it
Essen is a wonderful place to be. You and your girlfriend must have countless beautiful memories of the Christmas market trips together! 🥰 Thank you for watching our video, have a great day! Tom & Steph
@@eatordietrying He's not wrong about that, as the only sausage where Ketchup is "allowed" is Currywurst, but you can still counter any argument with "jedem Tierchen sein Pläsierchen" which basically means each to their own, it's like a magic spell where Germans just say "can't argue with that" 😉
Aha und was ist dann Curry Wurst?! Auch nur gewürztes Ketchup mit Curry! OMG... Wenn man keine Ahnung hat! Ketchup auf Bratwurst ist absolut ok! Ich habe es in 50 Jahren noch nicht anders gegessen!
Which one is it, close to the central station. Also surprising to see that they serve the drinks in paper cups instead of the special mugs, I actually really like collecting those.
Well, it was actually a rookie error on our behalf, we didn't have enough cash for the porcelain mugs. The drinks were near central but we moved all over the city. Thanks for watching! Tom & Steph.
As a Norwegian, it should seem cheap to you. 😄 If you want to go all the way anyway, then head south or east. Every village Christmas market there has more charm than what I saw in the video. There are also some at castles, palaces, in the forest or simply in a well-preserved medieval town center - that creates a good basic atmosphere that can be expanded. 😉Your Christmas market inspector. 🕵♀
@@wanderwurst8358 wow, where have you been all our life?! 🕵🏼♀️ Thanks for the recommendations! Christmas markets at castles, palaces, in the forest, or medieval towns sound amazing to us. Any place in specific? Thanks for watching our video, we wish you a great day! Tom & Steph
@@eatordietrying I haven't been to all of them, but the one in Esslingen, for example, is fun. It's combined with a medieval market/spectacle and you can bath in public on the market square. Or that one in the Ravennaschlucht in the Black Forest. Small, but the food and scenery are great. Unfortunally it's almost fully booked and you can only get there by public transport. Or the one in Lindau at the harbor is very special, something similar is also at the Tegernsee. Or Burg Satzvey , where you can watch a Krippenspiel (nativity play?) in Latin, which is also very curious if you don't know Latin. 😅Or the classics in Nürnberg, Dresden, Erfurt ... they also have a better setting as Essen, a freshly painted industrial ruin - sorry Esseners. 🙄 Even very small Christmas markets have their charm, as they are usually less commercial and you can find something really individually handmade for a fair price, which is sold by some association for a charity use or to improve the association's coffers. Even if it's just a pair of hand-knitted socks, for me that has a higher value than something from a factory. 👍😏
@@wanderwurst8358 we’ve yet to explore all those gems, public bathing sounds pretty unique!! Thank you for sharing your tips and stay tuned for more, our trip through Germany isn’t over yet! Part 2 is coming up soon. ;-) Let us know what you think! Tom & Steph.
We noticed in general there seems to be a culture of respect, and look the other way (including when guys would climb on the bar and dance at a heavy metal club). We wondered if it stemmed from that. Thanks for watching! Tom & Steph
@@grimaldus40k it has nothing to do with gestapo xD thats bollocks mate that was ww2 ... they did not even have cameras widespread xD do you mean stasi ? because stasi makes sense but gestapo ... you could also say they dont like to be filmed because of the roman legions xD
Maybe the "no photo" thing is region thing? Here in east germany (Thuringia) would no one say "no photo". Instead of this people are more laughing into the camera or (in most cases) would make funny faces. ^^
Kartoffelpuffer (flattend hashbrowns) with applesauce (NOT Applejuice) we eat all over the year, non special christmasmarket food! Plus: You dont go to a christmarket to eat mushrooms! In my oppinion totally wrong choice!
the medial part of essen christmas market is nice!
We agree! It was also one of the busier markets we’ve seen. Thanks for watching :-) Tom & Steph

I would recommend the mushrooms with a garlic sauce. Amazing.
Unfortunately it wasn’t vegan for Steph. Thanks for watching our video! 🎄

Well... I have a sense of humor!
Well you’re in luck because we make plenty of jokes!
Ketchup on a Bratwurst is a nogo ^^
This wasn’t a bratwurst! It was a knackwurst, similar to a Dutch knakworst which pairs perfectly with tomato sauce 🍅😍

Nice video, would you say the prices were too high or alright?
It depends what your starting point is, but as people who live in Amsterdam it was reasonable. I imagine for a German it seems on the higher side.

What is it with the Germans and "no photo". I noticed that too...really don't like people filming, even in public.

"Information privacy" basically the right to not be filmed, its because of gestapo.
