      They probably don’t want to make any drastic design and layout changes to the map. Though there are probably better ways to design it, most people are already used to the current style and would probably get confused if this did change.

    Clearly created by people who are a lot less familiar with the network than most viewers here . If they forgot St James that tells you everything you need to know. Terribly unreadable around the city. And as someone who travels regularly on both Sydney and Melbourne networks even the thought of comparing Melbourne (which is effectively a third world system) is madness.

      @@mjcats2011 So we have gone from saying "Melbourne's train network is third world and poor" to "Sydney's is better". We could go the other way if you want:
      -Sydney suffers from slow train speeds on many lines
      -Sydney's system costs significantly more in passenger-revenue kms, due to having to employ guards and heavy+slow double-deckers
      -Sydney has a persistent problem where a train can't run if a guard doesn't turn up for work or has to use the loo and a replacement can't be found
      -Sydney has inferior safety as the driver only operation in Melbourne using CCTV cameras on the trains is far superior to 19th century guards with a whistle; guards have also fallen out of moving trains due to the open door policy RTBU forces in NSW
      -Sydney shuts each line in its rail network down consistently many more weekends a year for maintenance
      -Sydney has incredibly hot crowded nasty underground stations on its Bradfield legacy lines that should have been upgraded years ago
      -Sydney has significantly more incidents that cause disruption and network meltdowns than Melbourne
      -Sydney is incapable of recovering from disruption, the network meltdowns sometimes still aren't fixed by 1am the next morning when it shuts its network down
      -Sydney can't run modern trains on the ESR in peak until it upgrades power supply
      -Sydney has a number of flat junctions at key spots that cause delays
      -Sydney has much slower intercity trains (granted they are mostly electrified which is better)
      -Sydney doesn't have passenger-operated doors except on InterCity trains, so air conditioning is worse and to make it even worse again the double-deckers use more power because they have to cool more volume
      Frequencies in peak on Melbourne's busiest lines can reliably get 20-24 trains per hour where Sydney struggles with 18 trains per hour due to old infrastructure, long dwell times for double deckers and network fragility. Off-peak Melbourne has a serious problem with frequencies, that's true. All indications were that Melbourne would be moving to an all day 10min frequencies on inner sections of all lines once the new Metro Tunnel opened, but that seems to have cooled off right now due to budgetary issues. Hopefully see this change in future.
      I totally disagree about better trains in Sydney: the double deckers for busy inner lines in Sydney are a total disaster for obvious reasons; Tangaras have a plethora of issues; Milleniums are fine but unreliable; there are still Ksets or Csets or whatever they are running around and there were still tonnes not that long ago so hard to fault the Comeng trains too much. Sure Melbourne Xtraps are crap due to their suspension, but the new Xtrap 2.0 trains look absolutely fantastic, and the HCMT trains are the best suburban trains in Aus right now I would argue other than the Sydney Metropolis metro trains. Agree in general Sydney stations are nicer but for that almost none outside the CBD are served by light rail because Sydney removed trams in the 1950s-60s; and even the ones that are (Dulwich Hill and Lewisham) have terrible interchanges - Dulwich Hill has now been fixed with the new footbridge, but Lewisham is an awful station which doesn't have lift access and floods and is located about a 500m walk away from Lewisham West LR station, truly awful when the two lines intersect.

    T8 and T4 should be parallel lines on the map because they run through the same corridor at Tempe as trains don't normally stop at Tempe can still stop at Tempe in special situations. On the other hand, the metro should not be parallel with the T1 and T9 between Chatswood and the City because they don't go through the same corridors. Metro trains can't just stop at T1/T9 stations in special situations like the map suggests.

    Yea I think for T2 train line, they should have limited stops between lidcombe and Redfern no matter if it came from parramatta or leppington, because especially people living from leppington and edmondson park, they take a direct train to city and it goes via Granville which is a long way stopping at all station to Lidcombe, Strathfield, Burwood, Ashfield, Redfern and then onto city circle where as the t3 line goes via regents park and has to stop all station to city circle. Except for morning peak and afternoon peak where t2 and t3 can make limited too to city circle to make a unique stopping pattern.

    It's pretty good though I think the names of the lines have had a bit more thought (I think the word 'West' is used too much) and with the city section they should have at least shown the metro line intersecting the city circle above it instead of behind it. The metro is supposed to be a faster and much more frequent than Sydney trains however the metro line looks more like an afterthought on the map. Say you wanted to go from Central to Chatswood the T1 and T9 looks bolder and more prominent than the M1 metro line making those services look like the ones that one should use.

  • @transportvlogs
    @transportvlogs หลายเดือนก่อน

    This is gonna be a long one
    Looking at the new map it makes you wonder what the new services will look like along with the new timetable. Hoping the changes don't make it an issue for the new services during the peak, we don't need certain lines to have weird services and stopping patterns just to make it confusing and a bit of a challenge to travel on the rail network during the peak
    Newtown, Stanmore, Petersham, Lewisham & Homebush were some of the stops for the Liverpool via Regents Park services during the Bankstown line shutdowns. If those services become all stations it will give 3 or 4 different services for the T2
    Don't know why the T4 won't be stopping at St Peters & Erskineville, it would've made sense to have the T4 to stop at those stations instead of doing new services for the T8 just to cover those stations
    For the T6 it should've also gone out to Liverpool so anyone travelling from Bankstown won't have to change trains at Regents Park
    Hopefully Sydenham should become a permanent stop for the SCO just because of the metro. It would be stupid not to have it as a permanent stop for the SCO, you wouldn't have to worry about going to Wolli Creek just get on a SCO service
    Last thing is with the Southwest Link buses they should've also ran some services to some of the nearby T2 & T8 stations instead of just between Sydenham & Bankstown, this would've giving more choices for anyone along that part of the line

    Personally I'd rather see the T2 Parramatta Line removed completely. The T1 Western Line and T3 Inner West Line can cover for these stations now that Liverpool to City via Regents Park exists. Also I'd like to see Campbelltown to City via Granville services reinstated.
    Also with the T2 and T3 Lines now existing together, I hope that they can do a lot of flexibility with different kinds of stopping patterns for stations between Lidcombe and Central via Strathfield within the Sector 2 services of T2 and T3.

    • @martinbauer8395
      @martinbauer8395 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes I agree with that. The current T2 Inner West and Leppington line will need a name change and made a semi-express after Lidcombe, i.e. Stopping only at Strathfield, Ashfield, Redfern, Central and then around the City Circle. There are plenty of T1 services running frequently and servicing Parramatta so the T2 doesn't really need to go to Parramatta also so just call it the T2 Leppington Line. 🙂

    I think this map is awful. 3/10 at best, and that's if I'm a good mood. The designers have obviously crammed the Metro lines into the old Sydney Trains shell and it doesn't work at all. The M1 is much too wiggly when it should be straight, it should not do a dog leg at Epping and the new stops on the north side should be above the T1/T9 corridor for geographic accuracy. The City Circle is awful and needs to be about twice as large as it currently is. The line names are much too long and there's no need to repeat the names of the termini over and over again -- the word "Richmond" does not need to be repeated 3 times at Richmond. There needs to be some acknowledgement of the light rail and ferries, even if it's just an L and F at interchange stations (there's not enough room to show all stops but you could at least draw the shape of the light rail lines and show their termini). And putting the M at all the Metro stations is hugely distracting and unnecessary.
