@@jeromethomas2526 I would be very surprised if Ducharme plays again. Her post-concussion syndrome is severe enough now that it impacts her daily life. She has been dealing with concussions since she was a teen and needs to worry about her future now.
My guess is that she will take on a Bueckers-style "bench coach" role for the remainder of her time with the team. As it is, she is often medically prohibited from flying, watching game film, being in bright arenas, etc. (I am so thrilled for her that she's currently well enough to have made it to the Final Four!)
Plus, she had ACL and labrum surgeries in high school and hip surgery in college...her perseverance and fortitude are so admirable, but she very much deserves to rest.
You seem to have forgotten Qadence Samuels, McDonald All American Morgan Cheli and the young woman that beat Azzi in a 3 point contest, Caroline Ducharme. Also El Alfy and Ice are major threats at the arc. The truth is, next year every player on the floor for UConn will be a threat from the arc.
I need PB to get in the post that will take her game to the next level especially with her being bigger than most guards
@@SweetSireniaI agree! If she's 100 percent healthy she is a major force to reckon with. If not, I've said many times she is so smart she would make a great coach
now there's a dream team! with an amazing coach. you gotta give props to geno for being able to coach those leftovers to the final four!! and i mean that in the most respectful way. there was never any doubt in my mind that strong would end up at uconn. she really is a student of the game. and with 40 years to show for it, geno is a perfect fit for her. thru all that adversity, dude is still cranking out winners!
Great decision by Sarah. Uconn 's program has maybe the best culture in women's college basketball.

When healthy she is really good... really good, but I do think she needs a back up center ... Basham(of Oregan) or Weimar (of Boston Uni) are interesting options in the portal .. although I do realize that the roster is full if everybody is healthy and Ines and Amari are included.
@feck1582 saw deberry entered the transfer portal so that opens up a spot. I'll be interested to see what they do. Just getting Sarah Strong and Allie Ziebell (2 all Americans and the #1 and #4 recruits) changes everything for them.

uconn can never play caroline again unless they have confirmation from a doctor (probably more than 1) that she won't have another concussion if she is hit in the head.
@@back2sports988 I just commented to someone else about this, but it's looking like medical retirement even though that hasn't been made official. UConn has always honored scholarships though, so she'd likely remain on the team in a "bench coach" role if that happens.
That girl has been through hell since her freshman year of high school and is UNBELIEVABLY tough to have gotten through it all. But she has to think about her future -- brain injuries are no joke and it's seriously impacting her daily life. (And no, "conditioning" had nothing to do with it. 🙄)
@back2sports988 If they make an announcement and you want to do a video, CT Insider's Mike Anthony did a great article in 2023 about her concussion and overall injury history and how it impacts her mental health. The situation has actually gotten worse since then, but it's a good starting place for research!
Sweety Caroline indeed. But I don’t think we should expect anything. One ball or elbow off her noggin, and she’ll be out for the year. This is really sad. But I don’t think she should even try to play again.
Uconn definitely ended up overachieving this season with the limited roster full of freshmen. I do worry about outsized expectations for next season. Yeah the pieces all should be back, but reintegrating 6 players returning from serious injury while also incorporating 3 freshmen is going to be a huge task. November could be another struggle.
I had a feeling!! Wow this team is gonna be an absolute juggernaut if they stay healthy. Plus Allie Ziebell is an absolute baller

Sarah Strong had better come to UConn in the best condition of her life just to make it through her first practices. This team, if healthy is IMO, the favorites to win the chip next year.

@@michellesmith9522 Because some people had UConn as the favorite before this seasons injuries. Yes, we lose Edwards and Muhl. But adding Strong, Ziebell, and Cheli, with El Alfy, the best post coming into college last year, and someone like Ayoka Lee seems like enough to me.

And Brady is solid but not really starting level and if none of the other bigs work out you have a massive frontcourt hole to fill for Edwards.

Looking forward to next year when Coach Geno has a surfiet of talent; just as perplexing as having a short bench. Just keep the players healthy for goodness sake!!
Starters= El Alfy, Strong, Cheli, Bueckers & Fudd. Unstoppable. Griffin 1st off bench (which is crazy to think). Allie Z/Shade/Arnold will also see much time.
UConn could field two different starting fives that would be at least equal to any other team.

Aaliyah leaving via draft feels like additon by subtraction. She is so talented, but had so many head scratching moments in her career.

@@sp123 It wasn't Aaliyah. Her cha cha slide was just the last peace of a fix that was in before the game began. The powers that be wanted the big draw of a South Carolina vs Iowa rematch and they had the refs do all they could to deliver it. Eighteen fouls called on UConn and only nine on Iowa. UConn had two more baskets and one more three pointer than Iowa. That gave them a five point advantage. The penalty shots on those fouls were even more one sided. UConn made three out of four free throws. Iowa made ten out of fourteen free throws. Giving them a two point win and the moving pick sealed the deal.
8:44 A. Edwards was a forward who had to play center and battle much bigger teams with 4 guards in there. She was great. The physical beating she took every night so her teammates could do their thing was one reason they got to the final 4.
She got clobbered and kept her cool. She's an all-American and all-Canadian. And one of the nicest people. A very classy person who compliments everyone on her team and coaching staff.

Amari DeBerry announced today that she is entering the transfer portal and will not be coming back to UCONN. That frees up a scholarship for next season. Do you think that they go to another high school recruit or seek out someone from the transfer portal?

@@back2sports988 Chen? ... I know she is a great guard, Uconn has a guard heavy roster as it is ... Would assume a forward and center are more likely.. May be VanSlooten and Basham of Oregon, Petty of Kentucky or Weimar of Boston? Or known good Big East players like Karlen of Ronsiek? If they are looking more long term I think Latham of Syracuse is a very interesting option...
With a full 15 roster and 3 new 5 star freshman coming in it seems there will be increased competition for playing time. Curious how you think Geno will handle this? Obviously a lot depends on how the all stay healthy and how they practice.

I was not expecting this UNTIL she narrowed it down to three -- and then I had a feeling we were looking good. Can UCONN stay healthy next year? If so, I think they are in the drivers seat. Strong, Bueckers, Griffin, KK, Shade, Azzi, Cheli, Ice, Jana, Ziebell? On paper this team will be ridiculously STACKED!!!

I don't think this is an on paper dream team. I think that this team is an actual dream team. They just have so much depth and the coaching these players will receive will be outstanding.
I'm truly happy that Sarah Strong committed to UCONN. She kinda looks like a more talented version of Edwards who can also reliably hit her 3 pointers too. However, it's time for DeBerry to leave UCONN she wasting her time and the school's time by staying there. I don't care how nice a person or student she is. Scholarships are on a year to year basis so hers can be withdrawn.We are badly in need of a productive BIG from the transfer portal instead of being totally reliant on a recovering Jana El Alfy (from Achilles surgery).
Let's leave the decision regarding DeBerry's scholarship to Geno/UConn.

Wow, more talented version of Edwards? You can’t believe that. In the McDonald’s game, Sarah Strong was outperformed by Joyce Edwards. Edwards came off the bench and was not only the best on the team, but the best in the game.

2025 uconn with beuckers, Fudd and strong is a natl championship..
I just don't get the "Fudd" thing, Shade is MORE than capable of outplaying and outscoring Fudd.
@@go2hvn2008 Good point and I agree. Fudd is incredible when she is motivated to play. However, she has choked in major games and not performed well. She that in the 2022 championship game. She was frozen. Shade is a baller! She has even more versatility than Fudd. Fudd will need to really step her game and score 15-20 per game to make up for her absence. We need three to five killer shooters next year to go all the way.
So UConn has to have the #1 class now from #5 or #6?? Now we have the #1, #4 and #18 ranked players in 2024

the 5 players injured for uconn would make for a top 25 ranked team if totally healthy. yet, uconn made it to final four with only 6 player rotation and possibly the final. geno was the coach of the year, but have to agree, dawn with undefeated season had to be the winner. Take cardoso out, now allows teams to play sc's outside shooting more aggressively. sc hasn't been without nation's dominant centers in 5 years straight.

The referees rigged the game. Iowa: 10 - 14 FT, UConn 3 - 4 FT, 0 in the 4th Quarter! They wanted Clark in THE Game!
@@twig4590 @danwayment6842 is right without all the fouls and free throws UConn wins by five points. Factor in the free throws and they loose by two. South Carolina vs Iowa brings in more money.

@@back2sports988 I hear ya. I was checking the roster/line up for next year just before you posted. OMG! If everyone comes ready to play, this team is going to be a BEAST. My one question is will the freshmen Allie, Morgan and Sarah get enough developmental game time? Crowded roster for a change.
I think they will also see their fair share of minutes. UCONN needs to prepare them to take over when the graduating players leave. If they practice hard, they will play. It'll be so fun to see the rotations next year and for Geno to have depth on the bench!

I think her coming to UCONN is one of the reasons Edward’s is moving on, that and the fact that Edward’s can’t afford to get injured because it would be her responsibility to pay for it and the rehab bills.
I agree, Hoopgulz had Joyce Ewards at #1 FIRST, then I really think they moved Strong to #1 because she was indeed, a silent commit to UConn. How unfortunate for Joyce, it was just short of highway robbery.
On top off that, they made her ride the pine for the first 6+ minutes.She could have easily started for the West.

Gives them excellent defense, rebounding, and size against South Carolina (Strong can playmake, so you don't need a pure PG at the point)

What Geno Will Really do against undersized teams:

I don't think Fudd will start. I think she will be limited to 15 to 25 min.a game to see if she can get through a season healthy.

@@back2sports988 If Geno starts AF ahead of Ash Shade, then he proves to me he's not as a great of a coach as everyone thinks. Shade outplayed AF in EVERY aspect of the game.
@@go2hvn2008 he will play whomever proves themself. I do think that Fudd will ease herself back into the line up and play limited minutes like Paige did at first. At this point there is no question about the kind of coach he is. He's done more than enough to prove himself.
KK is starting she plays great defense and her handle is very good with great pace she will run the show
I still think Chen is coming. She was one of the first names in the portal. Why hasn't she announced yet? Because she was waiting on the uconn season to end.
They currently have no rooster space for Chen. Well be dependent on what happens to Ducharme and Amari DeBerry. Will Deberry transfer or medically retire? As well will Ducharme redshirt or retire? not sure. Hope they are both health and happy but their future seems unclear. if that happens then could see Chen going to UConn. TBD
Not only is there no roster space for Chen, but the guard position is overstocked. Now, I suspect that DeBerry and/or Patterson may be leaving. But that would open up a slot for say Ayoka Lee and much needed help at the 5. A better choice for next year.

@@back2sports988 yes. i believe there will be at least one exit. don't forget. uconn also made Emely Rodriguez's final 5. I suspect Aubrey Griffin would not have been given an additional year if Geno did not know there was an exit.
@@helgar791 Lee has shown no evidence of entering the portal. And she is too slow anyway. Weimar from Boston would be a better fit.

UConn should learn much from their current overall screening for rookies....., such as muscle condition for ACL prediction, if such test available. Else, revisit their training condition to avoid hurting players????
ACL tears in women's sports is a normal occurrence, it's not a flaw of UCONN recruiting.
Did a video on it. The trainer / conditioning coach is good. Combo of bad luck and some players seemed injury prone in highschool. Both Fudd and Griffen had ACL injuries in high school.
okay @@sp123. I was just wondering how can it happened: almost half of their players sitting on the bench during the important matches....while it wasn't the case to any other team.

I still can’t figure out why they put the #1 & #2 player on the same McDonald’s team. They Iced Edwards on the bench for like the first 6 to 7 minutes to give Strong a head start. Turns out Edwards outperformed and out scored everyone anyway. Sarah Strong is good, but Joyce Edwards is better.
Better nutrition means less weight on the knees and feet.

South Carolina isn’t more talented than UConn fully healthy they just have more players. Fudd Bueckers and Strong are POTY caliber talents
the only POTY caliber players on SC’s roster next season is Fulwiley and that’s a stretch.
Fudd and Bueckers truly healthy though will be a problem for everyone. Azzi was never healthy this season. If Azzi comes back like she played at the beginning of her sophomore year paired with this version of Paige UConn is definitely gonna be a problem.

As a hardcore Uconn fan, South Carolina next year without Cardozo would still dominate every team, even though Uconn it still 10x more talented than SC. Why? That's easy - Coaching, Grit, and Overall Team Health.

SC didn’t win back to back because Iowa was literally hacking Boston and calling BS on her. As if you didn’t notice the FT discrepancy between any team and IOWA
Not sure what you are talking about? in championship game in 2023 Iowa had 1 more free throw attempt than Iowa 13 to 14 FTA.
SC did win the first time vs Iowa as they shot 39% from the floor and 20% from 3pt line. Dawn went out & got some shooter Paopao and Tessa Johnson and shot - 47%FG and 42% from 3pt line in 2024.
SC is now a fully complete team and are the best as they proved in championship game.

i still don't see a center here. uconn won't beat south carolina without one. cordosa is 6'7 and they have 2 6'5 players still on the roster. strong may replace edwards but geno has not had an elite post player for quite a while.

No, he never took a shot at Dawn. SC played rough last year, Dawn never disputed that. Geno’s objections were over the referees allowing that style of play. I wish you would convey this to Gamecock nation. And congratulations.

Geno said that just because a team been in the final four 3 out of the last 4 years and won 2 nattys in the last 7 don't make UConn less favorable... they should still be afraid of Uconn... Coach Staley always gives Coach Geno and UCONN, all other teams the upmost respect...

Does anyone disagree that Azzi should start ahead of Ashlyn Shade? Defensively, does anyone think that Azzi is more of a liability compared to Ashlyn?
I think they will keep Azzi Fudd on low minutes due to previous injuries - IMO - 20 to 25 min a game and then build to 30 at most if it goes well.
