If I had no oven and no microwave, I would cook brownies thusly: start a fire in the backyard (3-4 small logs) and allow to burn to coals while I mixed a double batch of brownie mix, pour into my (greased and floured) small cast iron dutch oven. Nestle the oven into the coals and using long bbq tongs add a few coals to the top of the cast iron lid. Bake for 20 mins in the coals, then remove the dutch oven and allow to sit for another 10 on a heatproof surface before lifting the lid to check on my delicious fudgie brownies.

This is how I would make brownies without a oven or microwave:
1. Go to store
2. Buy brownies
You must not have ever lived in a dorm. Part of the fun is discovering stupid ways to get around the rules. We used to keep our dorm room freezing, which others in the hall complained about because we were right across from the shower and wet people seem to not like cold, and we would put our refrigerated items on the vent. One group of boys in the next hall used a hot plate and covered the smoke detector with a bowl that started to condensate and set off the alarm. We had to stand outside waiting on the fire department to figure out what happened for three hours. Good times. I saw that hair straightener hack and thought to myself, "Yup. I'd have tried that."

That banana thing was actually mildly interesting. I can see how that can be made into something good and shocked one of these craft channels had something slightly useful in them.
Same. It's a somewhat functional recipe, it just needs to be modified to actually taste like something other than banana mush and milk
Honestly though, if it was from a content farm, they probably stole it from someone else.
I think Tastemade is a more reputable brand than the usual content farms she debunks, but I'm not 100% sure

For the best oreo mug cake:
4 Oreos
some milk
1 tbsp of self-raising flour
Mix really well till it becomes a mooshi mixture. then put in the microwave for 1 minute. Top with oreo ice cream and oreo pieces
You can make the same thing with normal cookies.
That banana dessert has SO MUCH potential! Some sugar to make it sweeter and a little vanilla would probably make it MUCH better! Why wouldnt they do that for the video? It'd give such a better result and it'd still be the type of super easy, super viral recipe these channels look for.

Once I bought three value packs of oreos that had like 30 cookies each, thinking it would last like for a month, but it didn't survive the week. My husband and my seven year old ate all of them, I literally ate like three or four cookies.
Almost 2 years later, I still revisit this video whenever I need a laugh. Dave and the orange omelet always has me in tears 🤣🤣🤣

i appreciate that you’re considerate about the people who might not have ovens or stoves so they might resort to things like irons or hair straighteners, past year I didn’t have have either

Unfortunately, we've lost the brave soldier that was Ann's microwave earlier this year. One of the experiments she tested in it was burned so putridly and wouldn't come out that she had to replace it. Rest in Power Plugs, Ann's microwave!

I’d use my pressure cooker to bake like I’ve done a couple of times already. Pressure cooker baking is so easy, effortless and great! It is underrated.

I used to use vodka for the watermelon trick. Found the alcohol didn’t distribute evenly throughout the melon. Puréing the watermelon and then adding the watermelon got better results but was more time consuming

With no oven or microwave, I would go to a friend's house. Or actually just buy brownies.
Or order a microwave. I'm getting groceries somehow, which means I at the very least have access to the internet or have a friend I can call to drop stuff off. Microwaves aren't that heavy which means you can get Amazon, Target, etc. to deliver them to you through the regular mail. They're not age restricted items or extremely valuable, so you wouldn't need to sign for it. And their size means that if you were phoning a friend/family member to retrieve groceries they could easily pick one up, or something similar like an air fryer for you to have along with your groceries.
Like even if you were unexpectedly quarantined in your basement or something (so everyone else doesn't get sick) I can't imagine a scenario where you wouldn't have access to a microwave or similar. They're more readily available than hot plates in the U.S., and are one of the only appliances allowed in dorm rooms (sometimes as part of a combined mini fridge/freezer/microwave sold under the name micro fridge).

I wish we could just cancel 5-minutes crafts, troom troom, 123 go, so yummy, blossom, etc. They're spreading misinformation and children are probably doing these thinking they're safe and easy when most of these explode in the microwave and waste money and food. For the Oreo Cake here’s how to make it, and it tastes wonderful actually: Start with about 4-5 Oreos. And add to them 1tsp of Milk. Let sit for 25-30 seconds. And microwave for 30 seconds. It tastes very lovely.

It reminds me of a roman guy I read of, he'd made himself immune to all poisons by gradually testing them,
but then it backfired when he found himself ruined by his enemies and wanted to take his life by drinking poison.
The watermelon one should be able to work. Have done it a lot with vodka. Used a funnel though, and poured slowly..
So many of these content farms drive me insane with their disinformation and purposeful spreading of dangerous habits, and I LOVE watching you tear them apart but also explain the science behind WHY they don't work. You really are doing such an important job and your videos are always bright, clear, and full of your patented snark. My beef with the very last 'hack' is the same. Just... just make it into a funnel. One cut, boom, funnel.

1 With no oven or microwave, a solar oven is easy to make out of a shoe box and foil. Instructions are easy to find online.

Tastemade is actually one of the channels I watch occasionally that seemed like one of the better ones so I'm glad they pretty much passed; their food just doesn't taste great 😅
I tried some recipes (they write it down at their website step-by-step) and they worked wonderfully. I think Tastemade is in the few who atleast tries lol

Tastemade has a recipe for dulce de leche cookies that I tried and were okay, but I did have to modify because their instructions were so odd. Like I made them drop cookies instead of stuffed, made the dulce de leche in the sweetened condensed milk way (they had instructions to make it from scratch-which I tried but it didn’t really work out as smoothly) & modified the cookie base a touch. It was mostly smaller details that were a bit strange or unnecessarily complicated that hurt the recipe lol

How I would make a brownie without an oven:
1a. Locate a shared kitchen (like a university or co-op). Make brownies in the oven. Eat them.
1b. Identify a family member with an oven and visit them. Offer them a brownie or two in exchange for use of the oven. Make brownies in the oven. Share and eat them.
1c. Make friends with someone with an oven. See 1b.
4:30 hey this hack actually does work just with a bit of change in steps. you need to remove the cream out of around 6 oreos or a mini pack crush the biscuits and basically mix it with milk enough to make it mushy and then add 1/4th teaspoon of oil and a pinch of baking powder or eno powder and put it in for 30 seccond intervals making sure that it does not bubble up and it actually works and if you need to stiffen it up a bit add a tablespoon of flower but that usually isn't needed try it out again maybe it'll work

@@samamies88 I started baking for myself and my gf recently and I've made a few things we both like but I tried my hand at a triple layer cake with homemade frosting and strawberry slices/diced per layer. She took a bite and said she was going to throw it out because it was so bad xD lol taste was amazing but texture wasn't good..

I would make it pudding style: set up pot on stove with water. Get it to simmer and put batter in a tin and the tin in the water so it is covered to 2/3. Lid onto pot. Simmer until finished.

The banana thing interests me. I might actually try to find a way to make that work. My first thoughts would be using cream instead of milk to give it a creamier texture, some sugar, of coarse, and perhaps some kind of chocolate powder, because i think chocolate and banana is a great flavour combination.

I was actually wondering if she has a separate microwave for TH-cam hack debunking videos, this is something I think I would have so that I don't ruin my expensive one.

@@heathb2182 yeah, saw that, can't un-see it... made a point to sit down with my boys & talk about faked hacks & videos... just to make sure they know to question everything... especially over the last year when I've seen them watching parkour, cooking and some channels that seem like straight propaganda... some of these videos are down right scary.
I first subscribed to your channel when I was learning how to make and work with tempered chocolate.
Now these debunking videos have become my new favorite amd I still get to learn how to bake! This channel has been one of the rare ones to have such a consistency in the quality of content and even keeps improving.
A better way to make a mug cake with Oreos. We did this in my culinary class
Put 5 or 4 Oreos in a mug. Put in 1/4 cup of milk.
Wait for 1 minute and mash the Oreos and milk into a sludge.
Add 1 Tbsp of flour, 1 Tbsp of sugar, 1 Tsp of Baking powder and 1 Tsp of coco powder.
Mix til smooth and microwave for one minute.
Wait until it cools down then add whipped cream. Enjoy!

For that banana desert is would add some sugar for some sweetness and then maple syrup since that’s sweet and has an actual flavour to it that can sort of vary with brand and kind, also seeing if you can fudge around with adding some sort of fruit sauce or purée would be a good addition also

I’m rewatching this now and I guess when I originally watched I didn’t hear you ask how we would cook brownies with no oven or microwave. Well, we live in Florida and we’ve had several times over the years when hurricanes have knocked out our power for days at a time so we had frozen/refrigerated brownie and cookie mixes or eggs and such that needed used asap since there was no power at all. As soon as the storm passed each time we would cook everything that we could out in the sun in makeshift solar cookers with boxes, plastic wrap, and foil. But my four kids had the most fun the year we decided to skip the hassle of building new solar ovens and just put the cookie sheets and cake pans on the dashboard of the car and let them sit closed in the afternoon sun. It cooked way faster (only about normal oven baking time) since the car was already so hot and stayed so much hotter since it wasn’t porous cardboard. They turned out great! That proves though just how hot the inside of a car can get when sitting in the sun. It gets so hot in the late summer here (hurricane season)that we have even put a couple layers of foil straight on the driveway to cook eggs and toasted cheese sandwiches when the power is out…and a few times just for fun. It’s hard to come up with fun summer activities for four kids!

I REALLY like that idea of setting your knife on lid to cut a cake evenly and consistently. I'm definitely going to try that next time
