    Get Out Plot Recap
Ok so If you haven’t seen the film and are watching this video for whatever reason I’ll give you a quick overview of Get Out.
We follow Chris, a young photographer who goes to visit his girlfriend Rose Armitage’s family with her. Upon arriving strange things begin to happen and he unearths that the Armitages have developed a procedure in which they can transfer the minds of people into shell bodies. Chris is their next target and he is auctioned off to the highest bidder and hypnotised into being submissive. However he manages to escape before the procedure happens and kills the family before they can enact their plan.
That’s a brief overview but just to get you up to speed before the breakdown.
Get Out Opening Scene Easter Eggs
Now the movie opens with Andre Hayworth walking through a suburban area at night whilst he’s on the phone to his girlfriend.
Andre becomes a prominent figure later in the film and we learn that he was actually subjected to the same procedure that Chris narrowly escapes from.
A car drives by him and it begins to intimidate him before abducting him. Now there are a couple of things to take from this scene, firstly Rose is clearly on the phone to him and this is how the car is able to track him.
The person says stay put, we’ll come and get you to which Andre replies with ‘theres no need’
He gives his location and then they show up.
Andre got lost looking for Peacock avenue and it is likely that these directions were fake.
Peacocking is a term that is often used to for a male to attract a mate but here it could be twisted round to be Rose attracting Andre to this spot so that Jeremy can abduct him.
Another interesting aspect is that the car Jeremy drives in is White on the outside and black on the inside. This of course is a nod to the fact that black people are later sent to the sunken place whilst a white person inhabits their shell.
From here we cut to the title scene which has blue writing over the top of a forest which is intentionally meant to be a nod to the Shining which is one of Peele’s favourite films…and mine too.
After the brief credits sequence we can hear the song redbone by childish gambino. Not only is it a banger it also has some elements of the song that play out here which foreshadow the rest of the film.
The chorus in the song later changes up to contain the following:
But stay woke (stay woke) - As in don’t go to sleep Chris.
They gon’ find you (they gon’ find you) Gon’ catch you sleepin’ - as in don’t go to sleep Chris I’m telling you.
And the chorus ends with Now don’t you close your eyes - again highlighting this point.
As we tour his apartment we can see a white child wearing a dark mask and peering out from behind it. This once more is a reference to the white people wearing black people as a mask.
Upon Rose arriving there we can see a chain that looks slightly like an unlocked slave handcuff and though I may be reading into this I think it highlights that Chris eventually ends up free from the family after almost becoming their slave.

One thing that I noticed with Rose is the way she does her hair. In the beginning it’s always down- metaphorically a curtain? Then at the house she has it half down half up. Then after Chris is first captured, the first thing she does is put her hair up tight, like she’s pulled back the curtain to show who she really is.

Me too because it kind of gaslights the audience. No matter what white people say about police brutality in a thought experiment "just a friendly debate because none of this stuff actually affects me" kind of way, if they saw that scene when they saw the flashing lights their heart sank and they thought, "oh shit." When you find out it's the friend, the audience has to realize that it wasnt the film that led them to that thought because the film made a different choice. It's what they know to be true about society and this moment forces them to confront that.

@@AquariusRisen that’s a really good point, wow. I never thought of that. You missed the deeper meaning of the final fight at the door between Chris and Jeremy. During the dinner conversation Jeremy doesn't just hint that he wished for a black body to compete in fighting. He also hints how it's an intellectual game of chess and therefore implying that he (a white person) is a smarter fighter that just lacks the physical advantage. That likely being the reason why he wanted to start a fight to test that theory. Bringing his incorrect assumption full circle when he finally fights Chris and gets outsmarted at the door. Chris was able to win by thinking ahead instead of overpowering his white opponent.

The way Jeremy tries to keep Chris away from the door makes me think that it is symbolic of opportunity and freedom, things often kept away from black people. What gets him through the door is that he notices the pattern (Jeremy kicks the door every time). Maybe this is symbolic of how in order to escape oppression you need to see the patterns and systemic issues.

The deer represents Chris's mother's spirit like a guardian angel. She was trying to save him by hitting the car. His thoughts go to her as he watches the deer dying. Deer end up becoming a running thing throughout the movie. When hunted, they end up as trophies. Which is what Andre has become. A stuffed trophy. Multiple reference to The Shining movie....and shining deer is a hunting technique. It's shining bright lights in deer eyes at night to blind them and make them freeze in place so you can shoot. And in this movie we see that "shining" the possessed characters eyes breaks the hypnosis for a bit.

I just wanted to clarify something you misunderstood. It's a cultural misunderstanding. "I voted for Obama" or "I love Obama" is the broad version of "I have a black friend" as perceived by communities of color. It's akin to telling someone you're Welsh and them responding with "Oh nice. I love Catherine Zeta-Jones." It's a verbal badge white liberals tend to wear when meeting people of color to display how "on the same team" they are. This is why it was repeated. It is an eye-roll moment for blacks. Some other gems you might have heard that fall in line with this are "I love your hair. Can I touch it?", "You're so well-spoken", "Man, good for you!" (when you say you do something inane like work a corporate job or go to college), "So where are you from originally? (Instead of the "did you grow up here" that other whites get)" and so on. People are going to bitch about all this, but when you hear this shit ad nauseum your whole life, you learn the greatest hits by heart.

Wow, I thought I wasn't "sleeping" on this film and I STILL missed a lot of this stuff.
I also believe that Rose told her parents about the hit and run Chris' mom died from before she brought him to the house and the deer is also a symbol for colored people. If you remember Dean said he feels one deer less is an improvement. I think the fact that they have deer decor in the house is a symbol for the fact they see "blackness" or black people as a trophy. They use the black person's body to put someone else's brain in and so "sell" that body but they keep the deer as a symbol of that since they aren't keeping the actual bodies they use.
So many different theories you can get from this film.
The fact that the song at the beginning and end says run, ah that gave me chills. I love deep movies.

One thing this video missed was that when Chris discovers the photos, it shows both Georgina and Walter. Rose stole both of them away and seduced them to become the bodies her grandparents would inhabit. Rose's method of romantic seduction takes longer but is less violent. Jeremy's method is violent, which his mother doesn't like as shown when she says "you've already damaged him enough" after Chris wants Rose to find the keys.

Fantastic review. This reply is long winded, But you’ll love it i swear. there’s only 3 things you missed. And they are super “meta” and deep. Ready?
In the very beginning of the movie, Rose is at the bakery looking at bagels. Innocent enough right? But, even though rose is facing us, There’s a reflection that shows that the person behind her is a black male. The movie then cuts to Chris shaving. the movie then cuts to rose a SECOND time. Why? Because now, SHE has noticed that that the man behind her is black and die to how she’s bent over, she has his attention. To prove it, she purposely shifts her body, looks behind herself, and grins wickedly. The camera even tightens slightly to suggest she’s focusing on who’s behind her. since we know by the end of the movie that the whole weekend was planned, during a rewatch of the movie, you realize the truth; that the very first time we see rose, she’s ALREADY working on getting a new “boyfriend”
He’s an explanation to a scene you covered very well. But peele. Elaborated on this. The red and blue clothes. The colors don’t represent democrats/republicans. They represent the infamous red and blue pill concept from the pie the matrix. the Blue pill means, “you’re blissfully unaware of the truth”. Red pill means. You know the painful truth. Chris is unaware of what everyone at the party knows.
But it gets better. when Chris and rose were driving up to the home, they are both wearing blue. As in, they are both aligned together and are both “presumably” unaware of the truth. but wait, you’re now saying. Wasn’t rose wearing red at the party?
Watch the conversation scene when Chris and rose are talking in her bedroom before they walk down stairs to meet the guests. she’s removed her blue shirt to reveal that she’s wearing a SOLID color sweater. the scene is very clear in showing that at no point does rose take off the SOLID color sweater. after they finish talking, they leave her bedroom and the scene cuts to them at the party, side by side talking to guests. But suddenly Rose is wearing a RED STRIPED sweater??!
So, not only does this reveal that rose is aligned with everyone and knows the truth, we the audience don’t notice the instant blatant color/pattern switch. why?
Because of this. As you said, all the conversation from the guests appears to be about the bidders personal interests. But as a black man. I can also tell you that these questions are all stereotypes that we get asked about adnauseum. And it’s exhausting. This is why Chris has to work so hard to be cordial. It’s draining. Chris and by extension, us black men, have to spend so much energy dealing with racism in conversation, that Chris doesn’t “see” that he’s suddenly all alone. He doesn’t see that everyone is wearing only red black and white. and by extension, we as viewers are so mesmerized by the “racial tension” of this movie that we don’t even notice when a character’s shirt magically changes from solid to stripes.
And one last one. When Chris sees the only “fellow black man” we of course see his instant relief. we then notice the awkward fist pump hand shake. but this is also a diversion. Here’s what folks didn’t notice. Look at the guys HAT. He too is wearing blue, To show alignment/solidarity with Chris. But then, after the awkward fist pump, his wife quickly hands him a RED handkerchief. To inform us that he is in fact aligned with everyone else.

I think when Chris was choking Rose she wasn't smiling because she found pleasure in it, its beacuse he couldn't bring himself to kill his girlfriend who has been with him for a long time and thats what made her smile that he was too weak to do it. She also kinda enjoyed their relationship as in a scene she says "you were my favorite" or something like that as in you were my favorite victim. She used her last breath to tell him she loved him because SHE DID. That was the point and that is the scariest part of the movie that very few people noticed. Even when they love you, lines have already been drawn in the sand way before they met you. And love won’t change that

The song playing during the opening title card & credits (also the end credits), is in (terrible) Swahili. As a native Swahili speaker, this song immediately hinted to me that truly so much trouble is ahead (as I watched the movie straight on without seeing any trailer, teasers or even reading about it). The lyrics say “Brother, sikiliza, sikiliza kwa wahenga, Kimbia, unakimbia mbali, kuokoa mwenyewe” which translates to “brother, listen to the ancestors, run, run far away, save yourself”- which also works semantically as “get out, get far away from here”, which is similar to what Andre told Chris after the flash incident.
However, the proper (more concise) Swahili should’ve been- “Kaka, sikiliza wahenga, kimbia, kimbia mbali, jiokoe mwenyewe” which is literally the whole song without the repetitions. The song name is ‘Sikiliza kwa Wahenga’ by Michael Abels- which also is terrible Swahili, and should’ve been ‘Sikiliza Wahenga’. The word ‘Sikiliza’ is a verb and already means ‘listen to’, one of many words that you’ll need to skip the English preposition if you want more precise translation, when the next word is for example a noun. Also ‘kwa’ means ‘by’ and not ‘to’ 🤦🏽‍♂️, there isn’t need to use it anyway as it already distorts the meaning. It’s like they wrote the song in English and used Google Translate to get the lyrics in Swahili 😄.

I heard there's a sequel in production. It's about Chris trying to start a TH-cam career. It's called "Get Clout"

Dre was a really big loose end. They could potentially use him to reverse engineer the process and start again

It's impossible to reverse, the original owner of the body's brain was replaced with a white brain. that's why the black man shot himself. he knew that he was doomed to spend the rest of his life as simply an onlooker, nothing more than a vehicle for a white person to use. I wonder if they can hear their thoughts... sad.

It is a comedy. Dark comedy. It's a movie genre. If you've watched Fargo, they're similar in that way.

@@treanishajackson2295 Yes, exactly. It isn't supposed to be Ha ha funny but it can be sometimes. I think, that it serves to speak on painful or taboo themes in a lighthearted/morbid manner, but with the intent to provoke discomfort in the viewer or to make them think deeply about the theme. Definitely one of my favourite genres.

I’m very surprised this wasn’t mentioned but in the video he watched on the small tv it showed a monarch butterfly coming out of its cocoon. The monarch butterfly is the universal symbol for monarch/ trauma based mind control. The programming experience is likened to being in a cocoon that isn’t pleasant but a beautiful butterfly emerges from it. The ability monarchs have to pass memories down to their offspring genetically along with the fluttering feeling often described during dissociation is why this symbol is used. Chris describes an intensely traumatic experience from his childhood. This is then used during hypnosis along with the trigger of the sound of the stirring tea cup to cause Chris to dissociate. Just as it is described in the film, a mind that is dissociated is dangerously suggestible to the point that while under one can be programmed with different alter identities each of which know nothing about the others like in the movie split. A reference to this is the scene where the grandpa is seen splitting wood with an axe. The mind is made with its own special defense mechanism against events too traumatic. This is dissociation. People in horrific car accidents or returning from deployments may not remember key events during the traumatic experiences. The brain creates amnesiac barriers to protect the person. Causing dissociation is like splitting wood. It’s hard to get the initial split but with every swing it cracks easier and easier. Chris already had the initial split and dissociated from reality as a child. He even says he didn’t help because that would make the experience real. It is much easier to cause someone to dissociate when they already have trauma especially in childhood. Another interesting possible Easter egg is that black people were chosen. They may have been easier to split due to the intergenerational trauma caused by slavery. These epigenetic memories can be passed down just like with the monarch butterflies causing them to already have a heightened ability to dissociate.
