Welcome to Arizona! I am originally from the east coast lived in AZ from 1999-2008, moved to the SF Bay Area in 2008 and moved back to Phoenix this past spring. I lived in 300 sq ft and commuted into SF for work. I was so over it and was ready to just breathe. While, it has changed quite a bit since I lived here before, I am happy I made the move. Like everywhere, it has its pros and cons, and I have the ability to pursue my passions, consult and freelance vs living to work. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and the video!

I live here for many years…it’s like living in CA…..expensive!!! Super hot….Traffic is crazy…low pay…..but heaven in winter time…
And its expensive because Californians made it expensive...phoenix use to be dirt cheap ....not that long ago

I probably would have taken your advice but even though I did move downtown Pheonix, it's really not as bad as it seems online when you are not in the area. Any place can look or seem non desirable, however when you arrive it completely changes. Pheonix is (to me anyway), one of, if not the greatest city of all time.

I love that you love Phoenix! Raised here and I would not move. However, I just want to clear up for people that are thinking of moving here. There is a lot of traffic. This coming from a husband from LA. Also with my own experience being in California a lot of times. I may be wrong but you saying you live by a mountain and the area you are showing tells me you live on the outer skirts in a suburb, possibly on the west side since you showed West gate. With that being said it is less crowded on the outskirts and yes you will probably see scorpions if you live by a mountain. I however have lived in the more central areas for 25 years and have never seen a live scorpion. I saw a dead one once at a park. But if someone is thinking about moving here and they have a family I would suggest the outer skirt areas because you are right, these areas are quiet and have more newer builds and are just nicer in general.
+kaioceanlove Yes I live in North West Phoenix off the 303 fwy in AZ. It’s very quiet, the closer I go towards the city more traffic appears. Not quite like Los Angeles but i can easily see major traffic in future years. Then again Im not brave enough to be near the city during rush hour.. California has traumatized me. Lol

I’ve lived in IL, TX and CA.
I am accustomed to our family being the minority in areas. Luckily, in the school state, I’ve always been able to build a community of melanated friends for my kiddos. This is one of my concerns but maybe you can alleviate that. Have you been able to ensure your kiddos have friends that look like them as well as a diverse group?

To quote Glen Campbell (well, really Jimmy Webb, who wrote the song) "By the Time I Get to Phoenix"...thinking of moving/retiring there when/after I turn 62 this September...some persons like myself are attracted to the mountains, the cacti, the desert/dryness, hey, even the geckos (and maybe the scorpions)...I grew up in and have lived in Philly (PA) all of my life (and travelled outside the US)...as Brittaney mentioned - California is close enough...thanks, Brittaney for the video...

Does Phoenix have places where mostly black people gather or do things? I am in the Dallas area and we have lots of black owned restaurants, sports bars, daiquiri shops, and lounges that have live bands/DJs that cater to the urban crowd. Are there places like that in Phoenix?
That is a good question to ask!!!
I haven’t came across any areas like that however it maybe closer to the downtown area. I’ll keep this topic on my radar.
yes, the south central of Phoenix it has a history of discrimination dating back to Japanese prison camps ww2.

Girl I live in Connecticut right now & we are looking at Arizona , North Carolina, & Georgia. I hear Arizona is so much cheaper , is this true ? We pay $1300 for a two bedroom & everything is so expensive here. Thanks for the video !
Nice!! Georgia and Arizona are great choices. You can get a 2 bedroom in AZ in some areas.
I'm in Connecticut too southeastern CT. I'm so over snow, bad roads, and expensive everything!
I'm moving to South Carolina. AZ is my home state but I can't take the heat anymore. Especially with my little boys. Having to stay inside. It reaches 110-120° even at night
Try North Carolina or south Carolina. it's way cheaper big difference too. Very green. AZ is getting expensive and it's desert like

You are a breath of fresh air to see you talking about your great experience in AZ. My family is pretty similar, young married family with a couple of young kids living here in Los Angeles looking seriously into Phoenix for very similar reasons. One of my only last concerns is that i would like to send my child to a christian based school and I am very curious to know if your children tend to be one of the only black children in the class? Or have enough people moved to AZ now so that my children won't feel or be the only black child in many scenarios? Very very interested in your experience with this?
Great question!! My children both have had 1 to 2 other full black children and multiple half black or minorities in their class. I'm very grateful for the progress i have seen thus far. I grew up being the only African American in my elementary classes for years so i defiantly understand your concern. What brings you to Phoenix?

Yeah just wait until you get stung by one. It hurts and you can’t move your leg. When I got stung, it was extremely painful and my entire leg below my knee became numb after the initial pain subsided. Be careful! They come out at night, black lights always help too!!

Thanks for this video. I am looking for a state to retire to. I would have to get a job if I do move in the next few years because I cant quite retire just yet. I have really bad allergies to ragweed, cedar, ash & oak trees & that is why I was thinking of AZ. I have been there before because I lived in Pac Pal. It is hot even though it is the " dry heat" . I am not found of those critters either.
Yes i understand. Sun City is a nice area to retire to.

I lived there as a child for a short while with my father. He had a beautiful home there but there was always giant scorpions 🦂 getting inside the house and we always had to check our shoes before putting them on. Is it still like that ?

I moved from the Chicago area to Peoria of all place just over 1 yr ago. When I say I HAVE MADE A BIG MISTAKE!! Arizona and Georgia was originally on my list of places to relocate. Went to Georgia, that was a big RESOUNDING NO. Now, I Must leave here and started looking into Arizona again. I would just prefer to be around more of ppl who look like me.

Ironically we have a city here called Peoria too. If you do choose to move here you can move from Peoria,IL to Peoria, AZ. It’s a city near Phoenix. I’d say that’s the top 3 cities I like in AZ. I’m from here so I know a thing or too and black as well.

I lived in Arizona in 2006-2009 and moved back to FL. what a mistake i made. in 2021 I shamefully moved back to the promise land God gave me in the first place!!! Way less Mosquitos then Florida and NO ticks. and does have crime. but less random crazies like FL.
