6 years into living in Arizona here are some tips : 1. Check out Lee Lee Asian Grocery, 2. GREAT food scene metro Phoenix, Scottsdale is nice but great options all spots on the map, 3. Buy housing now or pay more later i dont see the population growth ending, 4. Don't bother w car washes that dust shows up inside too much work, 5. Consider adjusting your sleep schedule during summers to work out/walk your dogs in the dark of evening or pre-dawn, 6. Hit Sedona off season off peak, 7. Work from home jobs eliminate the commute, 8. Costco has best gas prices

Originally from coastal California and have lived in various states around the country until moving here 21 years ago. I didn't like PHX initially, but it grew on me. During summer, we scramble to visit family on the California coast, especially during the period July - October. Weekend trips up to the mountains (Flagstaff or Pinetop) during the summer are also a nice break from the heat. Beach time in Rocky Point ("Puerto Penasco) during late Spring or early summer, and in the Fall (late September and October) is also great (3.5-hour drive from PHX). June is the best month for hanging out at the pool - the overnight low temps have been high enough for long enough to heat pool water to more comfortable temps, plus the daytime highs in June (statistically the hottest month in PHX) are hot and the humidity is still really low, so it's a pleasant experience. Once Monsoon season kicks in (typically after July 4th), humidity increases (with daily high temps well above 100 degrees) and being outside is an unpleasant experience. By July, most Phoenicians are doing their best to spend time as much time as possible indoors in air-conditioned environments until October when things begin to cool down.

As someone who recently left AZ after spending 9 years there for work and being from the midwest I find it funny how people say the weather is so nice in the winter there. Sure if you like low temps in the 40's or the 30's near freezing 2-3 months of the year in the winter AZ is perfect. I just moved to the gulf coast where the night time lows hardly drop below 50 most of the winter like summers in the midwest. At lest in the summer down here you can go to the beach and not sit in the AC for 6 months with nothing else to do but sweat like AZ. Plus it's ungodly expensive now in AZ compared to 9 years ago. How people can afford to live there is beyond me. So if you love sweating or freezing most of the year and dealing with too many stupid drivers, traffic and overpriced everything AZ is the place to be. Bottom line.

Az Native here. There are pros but in my opinion a lot of cons which is why I intend on moving in the near future:
    1. The heat destroys everything from cars, car batteries, windshield wipers, plants, ac units etc
    2. West Valley has limited amount of corporate jobs, specifically in tech. Most. Jobs in my field are in chandler, mesa, Gilbert, Scottsdale, downtown Phoenix
    3. You may develop allergies living here because of all the plants and pollen
    4. Get a water softener to prevent dry skin because the water is hard water and will also destroy your pipes due to buildup
    5. Air quality sucks
    6. Becoming incredibly overpopulated so traffic can be unbearable sometimes
    7. Arizona has the dumbest drivers hands down
    8. Any new houses being developed have no backyards, are expensive, terrible quality of building, have no privacy and are nearly built on top of each other. Chlostrophobic living unless you got money or live in the outskirts
    9. Scorpions…..
    10. 105 at midnight during August/July is not ok
    11. The inevitable depletion of water
I understand people love it here because they want to get away from the snow but this is just the main list on why I intend on leaving.

Good summary - 18 years in AZ originally from NZ. 120 temps v rare - lucky to get one day over 115 per summer. Some summers gave 30 days over 110 but a good chunk of summer is under 110 - I’m used to the heat and you don’t have to shovel it and you learn to work around it plus the dryness and ubiquitous aircon really helps. Phoenix area has the easiest traffic flow of any big US city IMO and yes the East Valley is more crowded in the winter. School district quality varies - East Valley districts like Mesa, Gilbert and Queen Creek are above national average quality.

Okay as far as the weather you all did come in a weird year! There’s usually less rain throughout and monsoon season is usually more intense. I think we got like one this year. Monsoons still aren’t scary unless you get stuck on the freeway in the middle of the dust storm! And usually it does get warm much sooner in the year. Almost any issue in Phoenix can be traced back to suburban sprawl. The “affordability” on the outskirts is exacerbating costs of providing quality education because the lack of tax positive land uses. Soon these prices won’t justify the impossible task of maintaining our unsustainable growth. I love Arizona but I think this is the MOST important thing to understand about moving here. It is unsustainable

I feel these studies are meaningless tbh. I saw drivers in Georgia and Florida that are way worse when I lived there. But, Arizona drivers are getting there😅 this is just my opinion from my experiences.
Also, if you check the Allstate rankings from a few years ago based on claims, accident reports, driver data from insurance apps, etc. a lot of Phoenix area cities such as Tempe, Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert, etc. show up in the top 50 good driving cities lol. And cities like Atlanta showed up near the very bottom. This was my observation too having lived across the country. But, Arizona driving has gotten extremely bad since 2021 especially from my observation.

I will take the heat over winter 🥶 any day. Great video. Just gained a new subscriber. I wish you all the best and maybe we will hang out one day. God Bless.

I always find it funny when one of these videos pops up for me in my feed. As someone who moved from WI to AZ for work 9 years ago and recently left AZ for the gulf coast this summer and hope to god I never have to go back to AZ. AZ's winters are too cold and summers are too hot. If you love temperature swings of 30-40 degrees between night and day and night time lows in the 40's and 30's near freezing like the midwest in winter AZ is perfect especially Phx. It's the worst of both worlds, too hot 6-7 months outta the year in the summer to do anything and too chilly 2-3 months outta the year at night in the winter. Too much traffic plus the god awful drivers and top off the overpriced cost of living now. When I moved to Phx 9 years ago I got my house that was built in 2008 for $170k, good luck finding a cardboard box on the street corner for that much now. Not sure how anyone can afford to live there since the jobs there don't pay well enough to afford to live there. The homeless problem is outta control too. I can find plenty of houses in a smaller town along the gulf coast and have temps in the winter that seldomly drop below 50 degrees (like midwest summers) and hardly get above 100 degrees in the summer yet be a 10 min drive from the beach year round. Unless you're in AZ for work I really can'y understand what people are talking about when saying putting up with 100+ degrees 6-7 months outta the year is worth it and low temps near freezing is worth is 2-3 months outta the year. My allergies were also awful in AZ too so lose lose lose situation for me since I expected to feel better and the weather to be nicer than what it is. Just my opinion.

    3) Great gun laws and places for training.
    4) fixing schools you can take your kids anywhere with your tax money.
    5) highway system for handling the amount of people I’d give it a A compared to other places I’ve been in America.
    6) regarding personal license plates. We should all have live by the golden rule.
