Rome collapsed from over-extending itself in empire-building, foreign slaves supplanted Roman workers at home and the elites sucked the nation's wealth out of the economy and kept it for themselves. Sound familiar? When the Barbarians came to town no one cared.

Both cities are falling and they will probably take Berkeley with them. Keep up the good work, Metal Leo.

I left Cali in 2011. A couple or a few years ago I saw two mainstream media news reports about the decline of San Francisco - the homelessness, the drug addicts, the needles and poop on the sidewalks. When I was talking to an old friend (who lives in San Jose) on the phone I started telling her about what I had learned. I also criticized Nancy Pelosi for allowing our city to deteriorate so dramatically while amassing great wealth for herself while in public office. My friend shouted "That's absurd." and hung up on me. We have never spoken again.

My husband had an opportunity in oklahoma with a friend helping him to get out of NYC .
Check the prices of rents in oklahoma .
You can get a 1 bedroom or 2bedrooms in a clean brand new building , with pool and gym , for 800 to 900 hundreds dollars a month .
      Only $ 350 deposit !
And laundry AC , dishwasher ect ….
Some residences that are pet friendly , even have a place where you can bath your dog .
It’s unbeleivable the difference with NY where everything is way over priced and dirty no matter what .
Cost of living diminish by more than 50% .
There are many jobs available .
AND people are really chill and nice .
I can not beleive how many people still think NYC is the place to be 😦
      Good Luck with that 😑

Never knew a soul there moved int9 a home sight unseen and took my chances with my children and I am so happy I did that move. The Bay Area is now become a bad and dangerous place to live as is the stat is becoming worse as the years pass. Otherwise, this is setting the stage for the eventual death of brick & mortar retailers. Thanks to CV19, we’re gradually being socially reconditioned to order everything online now, under the guise of safety, convenience as well as modernity; whether it’s groceries, takeout food, clothing, transportation, etc. All while small mom & pop shops continue to vanish like dinosaurs.

Seriously, old oakland was starting to really comeback before the pandemic, and chinatown was in good shape. Now, its a whole different story. The people I really feel sorry for are all those people in west oakland who had been there for years, and were about to make a killing on their houses. What I am also seeing is how these once high foot traffic areas are changed to apartments, so even if the economy recovers, the buildings where the shops & eateries were are now housing. San Pablo Ave is a long road and much of the mom & pop stores & restaurants are gone. There's no economic recovery and you can definitely say this is more than a recession, it's a Great Depression. Downtown Oakland is truly dead, I truly agree with your assessment. Recently, downtown Oakland, CA for 2 weeks and left this pass Sunday. California congress needs to get rid of law citizens can steal $999.00 without penalty, this is what is driving businesses to close their doors, if it do not change it will be a ghost town. 😢

What is being done is INTENTIONAL. The aim of the Globalist politicians is the destruction of businesses, cities, states, and entire countries. The ultimate aim is depopulation: famine & civil war. Don't believe me? Just watch.

I believe you’re referring to Proposition 47, the ballot initiative that was passed by voters here in California. It would need be repealed by the electorate.

I’ve been living in Oakland for 30 yrs. I loved it! The deterioration started at the lockdowns and no punishment for crime! Not in the 70s

Deterioration started once California gamed their elections to assure DEM super majorities in both Houses of the state government, along with all the Executive positions. Redistricting along political lines, ballot harvesting, almost unrestricted entry of refugees into the state who vote 90% DEM when they are added to voter lists, minimal voter ID, you name at and they've done it. This is how you destroy a state, but they couldn't have done it without the complicity of the msm. California is turning into a ----hole.

It reminds me of the hood back in the early 1980s. For miles all the windows would be boarded up for preveious businesses. Only residentials were active and anyone who needed to go grocery shopping would have to drive to another area of town, wasting more time and money. Now entire cities are becoming the hoods, from city limites to city limites.
