@@Superlifemania get a clear batter head, crank the reso head and tune the batter head quite high as well. Make sure the pitch across the lugs is even since there isn't any muffling going on and mess with the snare wires until you get close to this sound, the snare wires sound quite tight to me. Good luck!
@@Chump1 Well... hat's a personal preference but the clear batter is really going to restrict your options by making it impossible to play brushes, and for me, that's a no-go! You can get a sound like this without a clear batter... keep it tight! A controlled sound is probably the right choice.

Darn! I stumbled upon this video by chance, thanks to TH-cam's suggestions. The drummer and bass players are really having fun here. The drum fills, the cowbell technique, and the bass slap that lines up with the drums! I could watch this over and over again all day.
As a former dance band drummer back in the late 70s to 80s , playing hundreds of weddings in a wedding band , this guy plays real smooth and a stylish grove .
Unless I am completely misinformed, I think you might misunderstand the meaning of “melody”, cuz the melody is definitely played all throughout. From my understanding , a melody is basically the main “theme” of a song. By that definition, the melody is definitely heard all throughout the video. Edit: no offense intended, btw! It’s all out of love. Whenever I misunderstand something (which happens to everyone), I always prefer being told, as long as it’s not done disrespectfully. So whenever I see it happening, I try to do the same. It’s never meant with malice or to be a smart ass. ✌️

Just discovered your videos and keep coming back to this one to both hear and see not only the drummer and others playing, but the children being moved by the music and wanting to dance. Especially the little girl in the blue dress who so is moved by the beat and just wanting to dance. I love watching them having a good time. My "Thanks" to the two ladies who brought them to the stage and allowed them to enjoy the music and dance and remained there with them allowing the freedom to be themselves. Coming from a family where my dad was against my sister and I dancing when we wanted to so badly. Eventually we did, but feeling guilt we were doing something wrong was hanging over our heads for awhile. Dance on little children, you made my day special.

Fat, lots of thump, but with a clear open top end, compared to the million dollar late 70's snare sound, the snare in this video sounds like drum and bass from the late 90's. not appropriate at all. Great playing, though! But he should really learn some snare tuning chops!
It took bassman and drummer 1:18 to lock in. From then on it was all sailing through the song - an absolute joy to hear. At around 2:59 people saw the photographer and brought out their dreaded mobile cams; audiences don't understand music theory but they know what they like. 🏆🏆🏆🏆
