I remember i once asked my brother who's his favourite singer.. He said Regine Velasquez... And i asked him again after 25yrs... Still he answered me the same... How loyal my brother is.. 😁😁
That guy is Mang Gerry, Regine's father who never missed any of her concerts until passed away, Infact Regine always has as empty seat to honor him. The lady is mommy Terry her mom. They were really her driving force in developing her talents as well inspired her to help her family financially because they were very poor. Whatever prize she would win from all the competitions she joined would go to her parents and help fund for younger siblings' education. In fact Regine never graduated from college, but all her siblings did because of her.

Regine was crying at the end because she gave everything she can in that performance and she did it perfectly....
This was the 2nd night of her 2-consecutive night REIGNING STILL concert in 2004. She already sang too many songs before that number. Her vocal stamina is incredible.
No one can dominate a big choir like that. Regine's voice is very powerful.

Those are her parents. Her father is her first mentor in singing. They usually go a swim on the beach early in the morning for her practice in singing.. a very unique and effective technique as she is the evidence.
Her vocal power and stamina is amazing. That was her 20th song for that night I think. I was there and the coliseum was jam packed. Her beautiful voice simply filled the coliseum as if she was just singing beside you.

The medley is actually like a story telling of her glorious career journey and is dedicated to the people who have been a huge part of it especially her parents.
Thank you Ovela. We miss you too M Angel. You are right about how Regine revolutionized belting because she has been doing it since 1985. She gave birth to this sound...or actully really refined and aplified this sound from the late 80s up to now. The belting and runs and riffs singing culture in the Philippines is heavily influenced by Regine. She also cultivated the queer culture here. Those are her parents.

I feel like she was singing about her journey as a singer while paying tribute to them (her father especially) who were instrumental in getting her where she is right now. She has always been expressive about her gratitude to her parents and to God.
Regine was singing for her journey as an artist. The girl in the picture behind her was her younger self it just looks old though because of the old fashion before and a very old camera photos. The old man was her father - MANG GERRY. Mang Gerry was actually the one who taught her how to sing. And Mang Gerry never missed any of her concert he was always there everytime. It broke Regine’s heart when Mang Gerry passed away 4 or 5 years ago now.
That's the story of her life from her humble beginning up to her stardom thats why she's emotional.
Unlike most singers of today, Regine's career had a very slow start. After winning Ang Bagong Kampeon and winning a recording contract. Her debut album sales didn't do so well because of the at time Regine was so young and her artistry wasn't so developed yet, however friends who were more popular at the time than her like Pops Fernandez, Martin Nievera and Sharon Cuneta truly believed in her talents so thet kept on inviting her on their shows. It wasn't until after she won an international competition in 1989, that she gained success both locally in the Philippines and internationally around Asia. In fact her belting style of singing only became popular when singers like Whitney, Mariah and Celine became popular in the Philippines. She was really known for her mellow breakups songs like Kung Maibabalik Ko Lang, Babalik Kang Muli, and Bluer than Blue.

She reached superstardom only when she was 30 years old around 2000 year hence R2K. Her fame was really slow moving but it became consistent after R2K. It was Sharon, Kuh, Zsazsa, Donna, Pops, and many more were more famous than here until year 2000.

This concert was titles Reigning Still. Filipinos often do major concerts to celebrate their milestones in the business. This is why she’s so emotional, she’s looking back on her journey after 20 years in the business. She was thanking her parents, her family, her friends & fans for making her dreams come true. She came from a poor background and she worked hard (and still is) to achieve her goals. She’s able to give back so much to her family and now she’s come full circle.

Regine is a lifetime experience... I tell you, her voice is far better than live... Her voice is really powerful and it gives you chills.. I watched her 9 years ago and then I realized why she's on top and most attended concert artist in the PH.. There's something her voice that other singers doesn't have; She has the weirdest voice in the PH which makes her stand out..

Regine is really the Queen of Queens. The gold standard from which generations will attempt to match. Now, I understand why my mom was fangirling when fangirling wasn’t even a thing.
Ovela, even though M-Angel won’t be in the channel much anymore. Your content and entertainment quality is still amazing. Reactors have come and go with their reactions to Filipino singers. But you maintain the appreciation from the very start.
Side note: this Regine performance reminds me of Morissette’s emotional performance of “Wind Beneath My Wings” at her Laguna concert. And no, I’m not comparing those two. Regine is the Queen. Just the emotions from both. As I rarely see physical emotions from these professional artists.

Gawd! it took me one and only Ovela for me to fully appreciate how incredible our Filipino singers are..especially Regine. I prolly had too much watching and listening Filipino singers whilst growing up hence it became a normal thing. I love what you do and how you are indirectly promoting our Filipino singers. Watching your reaction videos made me truly believe that the Philippines is the land of singers. 😂 (sorry but not so sorry to the rest of the world).
