One should understand how hard life is in the Philippines for a lot of people. People from the west sometimes wonder why people from the Philippines get so emotional and cry a lot. Regine’s life is a real rags to riches story. Poor in the US means you can still buy good food and have a decent home, and even have a car. In the Philippines, poor means struggling to have food on the table. Regine’s family is so poor that they did not even have a tv in their home. She joined every singing contest she could join to help augment the family’s income. She borrowed clothes and shoes. She had to learn how to put makeup on herself because she could not afford to go to a salon. At a very young age, she sang at bus terminals to make some money. She had a very poor childhood and adolescent life. Only one thing good about her household is that, even though they were poor, there was a lot of love in their household.
