    Come on now, speed isn’t close… if it was any other brand you’d be deducting major points and wouldn’t bring up the speed to specs ratios… I get it, you don’t want to piss Mathew’s off but I don’t think you’re being completely unbiased… keep up the Best Bow Reviews on the internet! I think it’s more than it’s getting the speeds it is for its size and specs, more so than it being accurate to what’s advertised. Does it hit the 343 number? No. Is it still very fast for its dimensions? Yes

    Great review! I’m a Mathews fan but the 343 ibo is crazy. Mathews should just be honest. Most consumers would rather see the accurate number upfront instead of buying and being surprised it’s 20 fps slow.

      I have a question regarding maxing out the cam and the opposite. For example take a bow with a cam that's 28.5 - 32.5. At max you are getting speed but a rougher draw, at minimum are you getting better stability but more of a slug? Is that correct? and when choosing a bow/cam should you look for a happy medium?

  • @huntsimple9527
    @huntsimple9527 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

    I finally found a left handed 33 in stock and was able to shoot it a bit. I decided to pick it up, spend some time with it, and wanted to report out my real world findings. To be honest, I was very skeptical about this bow when I first saw the release of it. When I first inspected one in person, my skepticism grew. You can literally grab the cam and bend it around in all directions (of course with the bow at brace) as the limbs are so skinny they just flex like crazy. I was worried about that from a durability standpoint. I was also worried about the cams being very, very skeletonized. They seem like they would be easy to bend, etc. Those were some initial observations before I got to shoot one.
    I got to shoot one and my first reaction was 1) the draw cycle is very linear, just stiff 2) there is no valley (even at 85%) 3) the vibe/shock after the shot is more than the Phase 4 and 4) the riser length adds to stability significantly 5) something different in the grip where your thumb fits is improved. I shot it with both C and D draw length mods and landed on taking it home with the C mod. I bought the bow and took it home (we do our own set up and tuning at home)......
    Set up was easy. With a center shot rest we had a perfect bullet hole with ZERO top hat changes or any other changes. The Match strings are an improvement over the Zebra, not sure how much of an improvement but they are better. They are thinner and they did settle very quickly and my peep locked in. So I just started shooting it for a few days. The bow has a very clean shot cycle, very clean release. With it all set up, the vibe/shock was mostly gone. I got used to the draw cycle being stiff. I never did like the lack of a valley. My style of shooting my hinge is to relax/elongate the palm of my hand and that style does not work well with a bow with no valley.
    As I shot it, I realized the C mod was making me feel a bit long. I was not stable at full draw and could feel being a bit overextended. My shop still had the D mods, so I switched to them and now I was too short, feeling scrunched up. When I am scrunched up, I have hand torque. For me, having the draw length perfect is a huge issue, as I finally found out how well I shoot when my draw length is spot on. It matters hugely! So, sadly, I am caught between a D and C on this new Mathews cam and not comfortable at either. Note on the previous Mathews cam the D mod worked well for me). Yes, could I twist strings and/or remove the grip and/or fiddle with D loop length or even my release neck length (different releases) - yes I could do all of that to try and get the Lift 33 to fit my draw length. Since I have other bows I shoot well, I did not want to put that level of effort into the Lift, so I sold it/traded it. As long as Mathews runs this newest cam with the 1/2" draw length limits, I am probably out of luck with Mathews.
    Conclusion, while I can't speak to the long term durability of the bow/cams, if your draw length fits one of the draw mods and if you are OK with no valley, this bow could be a great choice for you. Thank you.

    Yes Mathews makes a solid product. It can't be denied. I think you are trying to make a fair system of reviews. But it detracts from that when you make excuses for a bow like you did here. You added an imaginary 4 fps to it because of a mod that isn't even available yet. You said the draw length was off but it's ok because it's better than last year's model. I don't think you are a Mathews schill. But you definitely threw them a softball. I just watched the Hoyt review and you weren't as forgiving for things. FYI I'm not a Hoyt fanboy either. I shoot a Bowtech and love it.

    What I'd really like to see in next year's reviews is Axle to axle length and string angle at full draw. (at 28" since that's about the happy medium for draw lengths out there) But I guess 30" is easier to do and be consistent with. Should be really telling if a bow fits or not.

Give the slower MATHEWS a 4, with shorter brace, longer draw, and slower speeds. Looks like total fanboy bias in my opinion. Should have been a 2 or even a 1 on speed.

I made the comment earlier about my limbs being replaced 4 times and Mathews (SCHEELS The Colony TX) replaced my bow. Only to have the limbs on that bow splinter also. Those limbs were replaced on Monday and today (Wednesday) my limbs splintered again! Nothing out of the ordinary here; 31.5/72/85….. 29.5”/472 grain Sirius Gemini arrows w/ 50 grain podium titanium half out and 125 grain field point.

I shot it the new hoyt and a ss34 all in a row and the draw and back wall are more to my liking on the new lift. But the lift has a pretty good twang in the riser. The ss34 I shot was just a jump with no twang if that makes sense. If I wasn’t into tinkering I would have stuck with Mathews. But bowtech fits my tendencies to tinker.

As opposed to the speed test Lancaster did which they said was ATA speed rating which they said is 70#, 350 grn at 30”. That’s why your speed test is off 12-13 feet per second.

I look at many people, and many bows, and it just doesn’t seem like much has changed in a drastic enough manner since the halon (for me-mr budget minded guy), to spend that kind of $ on a new bow that’s only a couple of things different from the last 3-4. Josh, I might argue that the IBO was tested at 80#. We all know that the heavier weight will IBO slightly higher, maybe 3 feet per second? Add 5 grains of weight for the nock point and D-loop lets say 1-2 fps. Then add another 4 fps for an 80% LO module. So, 3+1+4=8 fps you could add when accounting for the discrepancy in speed. I think with the 350 grain arrow you got like 326? Add 8 fps to that and you would be at 334 fps. That is within your 10 point range of leniency. I am excited about this bow for sure. As always, nice review. You do good work man, thank you.

    Mathews test their bows using ibo. Ibo is what the bow is capable of at maxing it out so max draw weight 80lbs and max draw length 31.5”.The ata rating is going to be less because industry standard of 30” draw length and 70lbs at 80 percent let off. Mathews definitely needs to publish both. But still a remarkable bow and can’t wait to get one. Thanks mfjj your the man

    Southeastern shop owner here, and love the science you integrate into your reviews! Why depart from that approach by “adding 4fps” to speed tests for Mathews and not other brands based on 85% vs 80% letoff? Example, you tested Hoyts at 85% and could’ve easily tested at 80% letoff too…and the Hoyts weren’t 14-16fps slower than advertised. Also, you hammer any bow with shims but not Mathews Tophat, why when Tophat or Shim still require a tech to pull the axle to change. #unbiased tests please…

    • @podiumarcher3447
      @podiumarcher3447  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hoyts letoff doesn’t change the speed more than 1 fps and their draw length gets longer. Mathew’s makes specific modules for different letoffs and the 4fps is straight from their engineering dept, if you don’t like that take it up with them

    Looks like a really nice bow. However, your testing and rating system seem really inconsistent between bows. For most bows, vibration readings are all over the place and it doesn't seem apparent that you're getting anywhere close to a statistically accurate mean. I wonder if you can calibrate the device? For this Matthews Lift 33, you state past bows have achieved an extra 4 fps with 80 percent mods, but this is a false claim when looking at past reviews (see the review on the Phase 4 33). Even with the unwarranted addition of 4 fps to the speed, it is still over your target 10 fps vs IBO target, yet you give this bow a 4 out of 5 for speed. You give other bows a lower score that have closer speeds to IBO (PSE Evolve DS 33 with 7 inch brace). Last point: I understand this bow is very light weight, but it is still an aluminum bow and should not cost as much to make as a carbon bow. It's price is higher than most comparable aluminum bows, and all those Matthews accessories will also bankrupt you. A 5 for price seems off.

Primes bows are the same thing right now as well. If it’s objectively quieter, and lighter it’s still a good bow. That’s undeniable. Also, a Matthews claims that speed with the 80% let off. ATA means axel to axel. That’s what the size is which is 33”. IBO is always the speed of the bow. Nothing has ever changed. It’s this way with all the bows no matter what brand. ATA would never mean the speed of the bow. IBO is always used when talking speed.

    • @Bowhunterohio
      @Bowhunterohio 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      By the way when it comes to IBO speeds all bow manufactures use the same type of testing which is 70 lbs draw, I think 30” draw length and a 350 grain arrow. This is what all manufactures use for their speed testing.

    • @jonanderson4755
