Karen was so gracious. I always noticed how she'd give a little bow of appreciation when the audience would applaud as they recognized what song she was starting to sing. You can see it here, at the very beginning, right after she sings the words, "I'll say goodbye to love..."
@@buffalobraves9 It's Cubby O'Brien on the drums. He was one of the original Mouseketeers on the TV show as a kid in the 1950's. Hal Blaine was their studio drummer.
I wonder if Karen wished she was killin’ it on the sticks at the finale of this piece? This is certainly my most favorite Carpenter work, and will always be listened to, frequently and often. 💜💜🎶🎶
Karen Carpenter has such a beautiful voice💐💐💐💐💛💛💛💛💛! Karen Carpenter looks so beautiful in that white gown! And WOW😃😄 I love the use of the guitar in the song🎸🎸❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️!!!!
Always loved this song but never seen that version before. Amazing. That quiet smile on the face of the violinist before Tony Peluso launched into his guitar solo -- he'd heard it during rehearsal and knew what was coming :-D Quite a different version of the solo to the one on the recording and, as on the recording, I wish it were at least twice as long!
I only just found out from reading these comments, and then doing my research, that Tony Peluso died. ;( He was so talented and such a sweetie. He spoke so fondly of Richard and Karen and a part of me had the hunch that he loved KC.... At least now Tony and Karen can make great music together in heaven. I love you Karen and I love you Tony! RIP xx
Quite an amazing riff. Thanks for pointing it out. And leading into it she mimics the guitar "wee-ee-who, wee-ee-who". It's a shame she didn't just let loose like that on more recordings.
By far my favourite Carpenter song.“Goodbye to love”. Such a true reflection of life. And who knows, maybe a true reflection of Karen’s life. Maybe that’s why she sang the song with such passion and feeling. RIP Karen.
This awesome performance by Karen and the entire band with orchestra is the best Corona antidote I can imagine to lift your spirit. When that chorus of voices comes in you think it couldn't get much better until you hear Tony Peluso's fuzzed out guitar and the song goes to yet another level. The ending is so spectacular with Karen filling in on backing vocal. What this music has that much of today's music ignores is a build of intensity, level upon level. Think Let it Be, think Light My Fire and on and on. Only the greatest tunes and players seem to understand this. Impossible not to have an emotional reaction- exaltation. Thank you for the awesome post.
It was so cool to hear Karen scat during the Peluso solo (check at 2:00). Karen could use her voice as an instrument, rather than a medium for words. Is there anything that the magnificent Karen Carpenter couldn't do? Even backing up she is amazing. A beautiful and talented woman!
Yes she truly had one of the great and most unique voices in music history!! They were a great group.....I have their greatest hits cd and I must say every song on there is awsome.....they even did an old Beatles song "Ticket to Ride" and they did a great job with it!! Too bad her life was cut short!
Karen is now teaching the angels how to sing. One of my first teen crushes And Richard was one of the great composers/producers in the music industry, This is the first "ballad" that had a great guitar/drum riff in the middle of it. A great song
Wow, so incredible. What I wouldn't give to have been a part of that. I can imagine how those two felt, going from playing at their high school to this massive set up with brand new expensive equipment and wardrobe. It must've been so surreal.
Her voice was absolute warm syrup and Tony Peluso was just ahead of his time. The drummer was (is?) no slouch either! Dig those extra single-headed toms added to the Ludwig Vistalite!
Yes-------------RIP, Tony & Karen, & any others from their band, who may have passed. -------------As i say, once upon a time, WE WERE YOUNG. -------------------------WolfSky9, 74 y/o
I think she should have stayed behind the drums, as that was her niche. She was possibly one of the best American drummers of the C20th, possibly on a par with Ginger Baker.
Even though 76 was a rough year for Karen ... man this is an awesome LIVE version of their song! They sounded live! I'd rather listen to the slight imperfections when live then the perfectly sounding "live"... You know what I mean?
Karen was so gracious. I always noticed how she'd give a little bow of appreciation when the audience would applaud as they recognized what song she was starting to sing. You can see it here, at the very beginning, right after she sings the words, "I'll say goodbye to love..."
You know, in the seventies it wasn't cool at all to be seen listening to Carpenters music but that girl had a perfect voice...like an angel.
I had to give in to the diversity of the era & tell as all my cool friends to excuse me but talent was meant to be appreciated.
just yesterday. I was getting stick by my brothers for selecting The Carpenters as my guilty pleasure on an online music survey.
really? I would've been like "you can kiss my a$$ dude" 😁
I wish she would kick some drums that would explode and go into an emotional fit.
I don't care who you were, are, or will be...Karen is cool.
RIP Tony..... your solo on this song changed an entire 'genre'....
Thank you for the music!
The solo in the guitar was so good that I instantly liked. Rest In Peace.
R.I.P. Karen Carpenter and Tony Peluso on guitar. Two greats hitting their high notes together. Thanks for sharing! ;)
And sadly the great Hal Blaine on drums.
A tragic band .loved it then and now
One of the greatest guitar solos ever...drummer was ok also..
Drummer is Carl O'Brien. Hal Blaine on the record. Tony Peluso, guitar on both.
@@buffalobraves9 It's Cubby O'Brien on the drums. He was one of the original Mouseketeers on the TV show as a kid in the 1950's. Hal Blaine was their studio drummer.
One of the best guitar solos put on record. The harmony of Karen's voice and solo blend magnificently
Who was the guitarist?
@@sharonjones8921 Tony Peluso RIP😪🎸
It s so cool to hear Karen scat during the solo. I sooooo wish there were more recordings of her hamming like this
forget shredding, this is one the best guitar solos of all time.
Gosh, they were good! Her voice like silk and his musical arrangement skills, off the scale!
I wonder if Karen wished she was killin’ it on the sticks at the finale of this piece? This is certainly my most favorite Carpenter work, and will always be listened to, frequently and often. 💜💜🎶🎶
agree totally. This tune is a fabulous composition.
The most beautiful voice ever
Jacob Prince No doubt!!!
Was at The New London, now The Gillian Lynne, last night, to see 'Standing At The Sky's Edge' - remembered you, Karen, RIP.....
The guitar solo ROCKS!!! Let no one ever say the Carpenters couldn't rock.

Karen's improvisations really blend well with that guitar solo. What a talented voice she had.
The most amazing power balled I have ever heard. And according to many, the first power balled. A voice that has on equal.
Magnificent and Spectacular
An Ode to the Classic days gone Forever.
Karen,Will never be Forgotten.😍
A different solo from Tony, yet still gets the key riffs in, fantastic!
My all-time favorite song of The Carpenters. Karen was a true gift to this world.
Awesome guitarist tony peluso,, RIP
God bless you Karen and Tony. Goodbye to Love is the story of my life..

A voice purer than the finest refined gold!
The story of my life....
'Goodbye To Love' 'For All We Know' 'Superstar' Are my favorites, Karen was an original and can't be duplicated.
Indeed....
What a rockin' performance! Karen's amazing vocals with a backup orchestra and fuzz guitar solo!
Sadly...Nowadays it's been replaced with half-naked dancers and fireworks. I like hard rock but I would have loved to seen the Carpenters live.
The first guitar solos I got goose bumps from ... back in '72 when I was a young boy.
Too bad they skipped the bridge solo in this version.
At that time I was a southern rock/metal guitarist in club bands. Hated the Carpenters.
Now I listen to them comfortably. Relaxing.

A better antidote is to stop reading scare stories in the newspapers..
@@nigelwilliams9307 You are right Nigel but then again who reads newspapers at this point in time LOL. BEST
Such grace was she. Still breaks my heart
Love Karen and Richard, brilliant music
Beautiful voice that it gives me chills at 2:05!!!! Rest In Peace Karen Carpenter!!!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤

Always beautiful karen
And thus the Power Ballad was born.
You can hear she is unwell, but what a trouper...the show must go on RIP Karen
Thank you so much for putting this cut on TH-cam. The audio and video is really amazing on my equipment. There will never be another Karen Carpenter
My God Please make Karen and Tony happy their in paradise
A voice that even now makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up
Long live the memory of the late, great Karen Carpenter. xoxo The Clarences
I've always thought she had such a motherly voice

and this is live!? this is why we still talk of her voice today. and her brother adding that power guitar solo was gutsy as hell and perfect.
One of my favourite songs just so heart wrenching.
That guitar portion at around 2:02 give me goosebumps
That guitar solo is spine tingling
I'm lost in the 70s tonight ❤
Karen is now teaching the angels how to sing. One of my first teen crushes

Klaus - the drummer's name is Ronnie Tutt - used to drum for one Elvis Presley, Billy Joel et al.
The Carpenters knew how to sing and play music.
Unexpected fantastic guitar solo's, here, and on Gerry Rafferty's "Baker Street" and Kate Bush's "Wuthering Heights".
She's ever the most my favourite singer I love. I miss you, Karen

🥰 Loving this song til now...
Class class class!!!
I get shivers whenever I hear the coda, wow
Best female singer there has ever been...and she hated being on show out front on stage, she only ever wanted to play the drums.
O.m.g is so beautiful 🙏💘
this is how i feel! i wonder how she sung this without crying
Her voice was absolute warm syrup and Tony Peluso was just ahead of his time. The drummer was (is?) no slouch either! Dig those extra single-headed toms added to the Ludwig Vistalite!
What a perfect voice . . . like no other.
wow...... amazing....
Just awsome
Beautiful beautiful voice 💙
I Love you Karen! Wish you were still here! Rest In Peace, my Love!
Karen, we are caring. We are missing you what a pity you didn't saw the love of your fans back then when you you were healthy. ♥♥♥
Brings a tear every time..What a tune!
I just "bought" this dvd using my "thankyou" points from my credit card!!...thank you Mastercard!!! :))
chiiiills during that solo
@Drumshe Nor took a breath... unbelievable. Absolutely a gift from heaven. And I don't even believe in heaven. So there. I miss you Karen.
fiveshorts onlyone
she's not lip synching, original track is different
They were terrific live performers. Even doing the multi-layer voice effect LIVE.
Definitely. Bits of improvisation in there. Quite apart from anything else, Tony plays a slightly different version of his famous solo.
She was an Angel.
A great, singable guitar in the break-outro
WOW!! What a great loss to the world of popular music was this truly unique voice.... arguably the greatest female voice of the 20th century?
This is what we call music and song. Not the junk we hear nowadays
Just WOWWWW
I would've paid to hear her sing any song acapella .She was that good
Wonderful song including the drum solo
Awesome!!!
Goodbye to love
What a terrible loss!! Beautiful
Karen didn't ad lib much on their songs, but at 2:01 its perfectly timed and beautiful
Peluso baby!!!

And Richard. Brilliance

Ooohh ohhhh ohhhhh!!
Speechless but solo guitar still remains right up there if all time.
