I love how these one off kinds of adaptations try to adapt the art style of the comic. I was kinda disappointed when they decided to do long Halloween as apart of a shared universe and they didn’t try to match the comic art
That is totally right. On the other hand, Tim Sale's Batman art has always been irregular and not really appealing, contrary to Frank Miller's and Mazuchelli's art.

Jesus Christ died for your sins on the cross. Repent and believe in him or you will be separated from God The Father for all eternity and face hell forever, for all eternity, never ending.
The movie feels kinda off to me. I feel like so many little details have been cut from the comic and some things like Essen and Jims relationship are just too fast. From what i remember in the comic they didn't kiss the first time they were alone it took many nights of him being alone with her to happen
I think Gordon’s infidelity is to show that there are no truly good men in Gotham city, Batman is an insane person driven by vengeance, Gordon is a good cop but a bad husband and flawed father. It makes him question who he is to judge the criminals of Gotham, if he truly is any better than them, it ties back to what he said in DKR, “it’s too big for me to judge” that’s him coming to the end of his character arc while this is him starting that journey

I don’t know if you do video requests but… there is one comic vs movie comparison that I think would be fascinating for you. A comparison between the comic & movie of DC’s the New Frontier. Edit: Holy shit, I’m just a minute & 12 seconds watching this video, and you just brought up that you’re doing The New Frontier. Wow This is just mind blowing.
@thenerddesk111 Plus it's said beforehand in Jim's inner monolog that he and his wife are fighting more and more, that the stress of the job is putting a strain on their marriage.
This movie as an adaptation does things preety well for me personally but i would prefer to read th comic over watching the movie if i wanted to re-expreince this story again
I wish Kevin Conroy was the voice in the animated film he was perfect for it. I was not a fan of the guy they got he sounded weird. I did however love Peter Weller in The Dark Knight Returns. If they ever do a Kingdom Come animated film they need Peter Weller to voice Batman in it.
@@TheParagonIsDead They couldn't get Bruce Greenwood then? The guy in the movie sounds awful. Bruce Greenwood or Roger Craig Smith would've been a better choice.
It is fun to compare versions but I don’t see the value in adapting things so directly like this. If an adaptation is too faithful then it kind of just becomes a soulless and less quality version of something that was originally creative. With this in mind, I think Batman: Mask of the Phantasm adapts Year One better than Year One because it takes elements (like Batman v cops) and recontextualizes them, and takes the themes (like what would cause a man to put a bat costume on) and says a new thing about them Ex: In Phantasm, fighting the cops is different because Batman has had a partnership with Gordon already, but he’s been framed and his past is coming back up to haunt him. It’s an obvious homage, but it’s a completely different scene. Ex 2: Then you have the same idea of exploring why Batman would do what he does, and it adds the bit about him once trying to have a normal life and it failed. It’s a question that both Year One and Phantasm address, but they give totally different answers. To Miller, Bruce never had any other option to pursue. This was his mission. He is driven to extreme methods because he himself is an intense personality. In Phantasm, he started out far less sure of this as being his life’s mission but because of the circumstances, he was forced into it, almost as if it was beyond him and he was tragically fated to being a creature of the night…. Both of the creative teams’ respective answers to the question of “why does Batman do what he does?” reveals things about them and their style. Miller’s take is very cold and dirty. The BTAS crew has a softer, more romantic yet tragic take. This is where the “soul” comes into play In the Year One adaptation, it lost the soul even though Bruce Timm was still involved. It’s because he wasn’t creating his own solutions to old problems or recontextualizing old elements to fit his world anymore. He was just regurgitating what Miller did. It just becomes an intermediate and unnecessary step between the original creator and their audience I like seeing the same events from the comics, but they need to be a jumping off point to tell a new story imo
The movie is solid but the comic is an all time great and top 5 Batman comic of all time. Also imo Year 1 is the best Frank Miller Batman book....yes, even better than DKR

lol, lots of people have been asking for it, likely long Halloween afterward
What can I say… I’m a newbie.
enjoyed the video! hope you make more!
Gordon cheating with Essen, is to show that while he's standing up against the corruption, the city still has an effect on him.
Okay thank you, genuinely had no clue where that subplot came from 😅.

BW/Batman voice was by Ben McKenzie, the Jim Gordon actor in Gotham series
