    I got myself a Bambino Plus last Christmas, and I think this video most of all is really encouraging to keep trying. The first few days have been rough, but I'm determined to pull some stuff I find good. This video also gives me a sense of structure around how I should go about the whole routine.

    This was great to watch, thank you! I have this machine arriving Wednesday and have never made an espresso before. I'm so excited and it's encouraging to see someone else who was new to it doing so nicely! The negative comments are pretty silly. It's an espresso machine for people who enjoy making espresso and like some conveniences :)

    To be honest, one month of work into the latte art has payed off. Imagine one year from now. Good job! Even though I don’t like how the machine is operated, coming from a more manual Gaggia Classic (I have a few videos on my channel about it) it seems to yield some great results which I’d even drink myself.

    Why did you pour your frothed milk into another container to pour the milk? I don’t understand that part. Also, how’s the machine going a year later? Good job on your coffee! Especially the latte art 👍

    • @alanwong2643
      @alanwong2643 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I pour the frothed milk into another container to mix the milk. When I froth, I get a more heavy foam layer on top, and when trying to do latte art, that heavy foam ruins the last part of the pour, where I can't do a design. By mixing the milk, (or even better, not having the heavy foam at all) it is more uniform to pour for latte art. I see baristas at cafes not even use that heavy foam. They just dump it out. Machine is going great, I think it's been about two years. My latte art has not really improved over time, because I mostly pour into my small to-go cup before work. It's hard to do latte art in a narrow space. When I make lattes on weekends and use a bigger cup like in the video, the art comes out well.

    I've had my Bambino Plus for a few weeks now. I'm doing everything basically the same as you and have been enjoying the new machine. BTW, nice latte art from the auto-steamed milk! My one and only complaint might be is I would like the espresso shot to be a litte hotter. I'm measuring a double shot at 168F-170F in a pre-warmed cup, I'd like to see that be 175F-180F, although once I make it into a latte, the steamed milk makes up for the cooler shot, it's just that I think I might get a little more flavor out of the shot if it were a bit warmer. Just out of curiosity, have you tried measuring your shot temperature?

    • @Colsoulaw
      @Colsoulaw  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! I have not tried measuring my shot. Like you said, after adding milk, it is a fine temperature, and it suits my taste so I don't bother.

    I just bought this machine for our overland vehicle build. No way am I going through this for a coffee though. Over 6 minutes for one....I was attracted by the 3 second startup time and the quality of the automatic milk steaming. I do like the little ring thing to help stop coffee going everywhere. Do you have a link for it so I can buy the exact one that fits this machines group head?

    • @Colsoulaw
      @Colsoulaw  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks for your comment! This is an espresso machine, not the same drink as a coffee. You are still using coffee beans but it has a different taste, different amount of caffeine, lots of other differences because of brewing method. But when it comes to making espresso, this is actually really quick! Most espresso machines have a long start up time ( like 15 to 20 min!) the auto milk steaming is also a great feature of this. Other machines require some amount of skill for good milk steaming. You can also do manual milk frothing with this if you choose. I have linked the dosing funnel in the description above

    Hey, lovely job on the milk in particular. I have a new bambino as well and was wondering what the secret to such gorgeous milk is on the auto setting, I am using just under 150ml of milk in quite a small pitcher and wondering if that is a factor working against me. For example it means that in order to be fully on the temp sensor the wand is not as central in the pitcher as yours, but rather closer to the edge.

    • @Colsoulaw
      @Colsoulaw  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, I don't use auto anymore as I find it separates the milk into the frothy foam on top and silky milk on bottom, which is why I pour into another pitcher to mix the two consistencies. By doing manual, I get much more consistent silky milk for latte art.

      @Colsoulaw  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for the comment! I actually haven't had a plain espresso on its own but I also don't think it's like boiling hot, so it will cool quickly because there is so little volume. • @Colsoulaw
      @Colsoulaw  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi, thanks for the comment. I love the machine, it makes great lattes. However, I have found that when the machine auto froths, it separates the milk into two layers...a thick foam on top, and thinner creamy milk on the bottom. I tap and pour into a new pitcher to try to create one consistent form of liquid, the thick creamy milk (like wet paint) necessary to create latte art. Watching latte art tutorials (check out Dritan Alsela), some tips included pouring the milk (usually not the whole amount) into a different pitcher to create a more uniform consistency of milk. When I ever get the courage to learning how to froth my own milk manually with this machine, I hopefully may not have to do this technique to make great latte art. Hope that helps.

    • @Colsoulaw
      @Colsoulaw  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I've learned that my Bambino (maybe others are different?) auto-froths by having a thick layer of foamy milk on top. This is not conducive to latte art, as I will generally just get a big plop of foam on top. To make latte art, I need my milk all the same consistency (like white paint, kind of a thick runny liquid). By pouring my milk into another pitcher, I basically am mixing the fluids so it is one consistency, not two layers of thick and thin liquid

    your grind size of your coffee grounds is too fine in this specific video. I would recommend timing your shots for better tasting espresso that's not over-extracted, unless of course, you like your shot to be pulled slightly longer.😌 The trick to perfect latte milk is in the foam. If you use any kind of plant based milk, or lower fat cow's milks, you will have less foam, and less control over creating the perfect amount of foam.

    • @courtneyjones6427
      @courtneyjones6427 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      omg yeah, you definitely need to hold the pitcher when foaming your milk. The steam wand is adjustable for a reason, placement of the steam wand really matters. It helps to nest the length of the steam wand in the spout. you definitely don't want the steam wand to be placed to deep in the milk, about halfway down is perfect
