Brook is a supportive character. Some people think that's bad. But he is great at this role. Look at his interaction with Robin in Onigashima. And yeah, he was the MVP of WCI. Not to say that we still have his back story, probably the saddest one in the story.
It's kinda ironic how people's treatment of his character is similar to how people like to treat supporting characters in games. Eventhough support characters in games are essential to the group in helping them winning, they never get the glory. On the contrary, they always get the worse treatment. Always getting crap from teammates for not doing their job properly, but even if they do, they still will go unappreciated. Brook is exactly like that. His actions always overlooked by the fans and only his jokes are the one they kept being fixated on.
Brook is great at what he does and there not much more you can ask. More would be great but I'm satisfied on his underdog support role as he already an experienced pirate.
Brook has so many more important character moments, but my favourite is still when he addressed Big Mom as "Young lady" when he must have thought he was going to certain death. It would have given me goosebumps ... That is, if I had any skin Yohohohooooooo
Brook is a character that already has had his adventure, and he lost everything on it. He doesn't need to go on the main stage, he's happy to play support in the background as long as he has someone to perform with.
I feel like as Sanji is thrust into the spotlight more and more, Brook has kind of taken on the sneaky “Mr. prince” sleuthing role and it suits him perfectly
@@royalfun1031 that was also true in the past but Oda used to give Sanji a lot of the smarter roles to play. He wasn't just a pure muscled idiot like Luffy and Zoro. He also had the brains to back up his fighting ability. Mr. Prince in Alabasta, tracking down Robin to the sea train in Water 7 and also when he went off on his own in Enies Lobby to figure out a way for them to escape to sea. Before the time skip, Sanji's biggest moments were the ones where he showed his smarts as opposed to his might. He was kind of like a secret agent in a certain way. After the time skip other characters like Brook have been filling that role more. I do miss the old Sanji but I won't complain too much since I love what Oda has done to make characters like Brook shine in moments like these.
Sanji's great but he's had more than enough focus the past few arcs. Honestly everyone who isn't in the "monster trio" deserve their time in the spotlight.
Not every character needs a cool fight against a top commander every arc. I've always been happy with Brook clearing out random mook enemies and cracking jokes. Standing up to Big Mom and actually doing well against her is one of my top 5 events that have happened in the series.
@@jackroberts2704 I think Brooks gonna be Shiryus opponent when the straw hats and the Blackbeard crews tangle. Remember in Marineford where Jozu blocked Mihawks slash by going diamond? I'm thinking whoever Zoro is gonna go up against is gonna be the guy who steals his devil fruit and we know Shiryus doesn't have that one.
Separating his soul from his body during the time he spent stranded on the ship would have been a terrifying prospect for Brook. The reason he is a skeleton is because he was already separated from his body for so long it decomposed. The fact that he overcame that fear in order to become more useful as the Pirate King’s crew mate is what gives that power up emotional weight.
Never saw it that way... But it might be the explaination for it... Nevertheless in my very personal opinion its quite unlocical that Brook never tried to find out what his fruit is actually capable of... Both the ice and the spirit powers were discoverd during the timeskip??? That was one of Odas few really bad moments
@@naviro6672 Brook hasn't really had a reason or time to really explore his powers/get stronger until the time skip. 1) The prospect of training to fight Ryuma to get his body back only consisted of swordsmanship, Brook just assumed his fruit only brought him back to life and nothing else. Valid way of thinking since the only description Brook has of the fruit is that it revives him + that it gave him no extra powers in his first life. 2) Between when he joined the crew and when they were seperated by Kuma, Brook maybe had a few weeks with them before they got broken up LOL. Not enough time to explore anything major in power. 3) Up until Sabaody, Brook thought that his power level was more or less good enough for the Grand Line. The realization of the true power ceiling and that Brook, along with his entire crew, were essentially ants in the New World didn't exist yet to motivate them to grow stronger or explore new possibilities in their powers. Brook getting stronger in the timeskip makes perfect sense and isn't really a bad moment. The entire crew got insane power ups in the timeskip, all being explained as being part of their training to better protect Luffy after finding out about his brother's death and his message in the news. It's actually a bit better for Brook since not only did Luffy inspire him to take control of his own powers but also inspired him to train so that he would never lose his crew again like he did those 50+ years ago. This makes his growth + the rest of the crew's growth make sense.
@@BadKarma444 Sorry but I dont see your points.... His reason for getting stronger would have been to reunite with Laboon... He was next to a freaking horror freakshow to be inspired and got his shadow stolen which he wanted back to be able to go out in the sun again to see his last remaining friend again... And whoever says that 50 years compared to 2 years are not enough time seems to misunderstand the concept of time...
@@naviro6672 You make good points, but ultimately we all react to things differently. Brook went through death, who knows how badly that would fuck up the way you perceive and approach things.
This is why I need the series to finish ASAP. If the VA passes away, I don't think anyone could replace him. He has a very unique voice in the industry.
I was very lucky, got see Brook join just in time to see everyone get separated by Kuma, after which we only got to see the other SHs in a 14 page cover serial. Anime watchers are spoiled, you got several episodes of the the other SHs, we got essentially 14 text less panels
@@t.c.thompson2359 it was only half an episode each if I remember correctly. but we did at least get to hear them and everything. Only just caught up to the anime a few weeks ago I got lucky having everything out by the time I started lol
Brook took the role that Sanji had of supporting the crew in the shadows silently, every little cool thing (not fighting) that Sanji did before thriller bark, is like mirror of what Brook has done since.
When I caught up with One Piece, the story was still in Dressrosa, and I remember how back then people would consider Brook as the most dispensable crew member. He was beloved, of course, but when having to pick one to leave the crew, Brook seemed like the least impactful removal, and thus, the most logical choice. Watching him prove himself pivotal during Whole Cake Island was a delight. Edit: Silly typo (curse you, irregular verbs).
It's crazy how well you put this into words. Brook is my favorite character, but I never knew why. I don't like his perverted nature, he's not as "awesome" in fights as other characters, but somehow this guy playing the violin and always being optimistic is the guy I can most relate to in probably any piece of media. Thank you for this video, I will treasure it like my own little One Piece.
Brook is the Soul King, the literal soul of the group now. He holds them together with his solidarity, plays fun whimsical music between sagas like a bard and makes you laugh even in despair. He's truly a wonderful character that I've just grown to love more and more. If he ever gets to see Laboon again...literal tears.
That panel you show (6:00) of Brook saying he's had years to get used to being hurt by illusions of his friends, and then Robin smiling and saying they have so much in common-my heart is SHATTERED. The fact that Brook can then embrace his trials to make him stronger once he has something to fight for is incredible.
Brook and Luffy fight for my top Straw Hat constantly, but I think I always tend towards Brook because I relate to his vibe more than the absolute wild child that is Monkey D. Luffy. Well that and I absolutely adore the Laboon and Brook backstory. It's because he doesn't get a lot of opportunities to shine that when he does get those moments like in Whole Cake Island, it's so poignant. It's like, as a musician, he really knows when to strike a chord. And just when he's disappeared into the background again, he's there to pluck at your heart strings with that moment with Robin. To tie things back to his supporting role, in the final moments of the Rumbar Pirates, he decided that he would play the piano as the accompaniment. Brook getting to leadership positions and stardom shows his talent and capabilities, but he gravitates towards that supporting role in an ensemble
One thing I've thought about is that despite his cheery attitude brook has really dark thoughts, you already mentioned some like being grounded for the worst situations But even then, we have the greatest sign of his pain. "I'm so glad to be alive", broke explained in tears. Why does he say that? Maybe is just appreciation for life, everyone should be grateful after all, but before... He had nothing, he has hopeless, anyone would think "why am I still alive?" Even Franky says he would end it all if he were to go through something like that So Brook is someone who thought a lot of taking his own life, at least I think, who always was in the verge of giving up, yet he pushed onwards. And now he is glad that his efforts were paid for, glad he... Didn't give up on life Such a deeply hurt man that only wants for no one to go through what he suffered.
As a musician myself I absolutely love Brook, I think that consciously or not Oda portrayed his trauma very well. But what I like the most it's his age, how he reacts to hearing Roger's name; I wonder if he knows Rocks or Garp/Tsuru/Sengoku (or their parents), would be amazing someday to get data about the Monkey great-grandfather
Brook had a line I think in Sabaody that went something along the lines of "Oh Roger? I think I remember hearing about an up and coming pirate with that name. Oh well. *sips tea*" and considering the timeline, Brook was stuck on the ship for most of Roger and by extension Garp and Sengoku's career
@@fenris5932 I really wouldn't be mad if Brook does something spectacular and the Gorosei/Marines discuss it and they say "No wonder, If the Rumbar Pirates were active on this age they would be considered Emperors of the sea"" And there's also Brook's former job as royal (I think) guard Im sorry I just love Brook hahah
@@camiloflores1592 oh they definitely weren't on Emperor level, don't get too carried away. But yeah the royal guard thing is interesting, I wonder if we'll ever get a second backstory bit like with Sanji where we learn about Brook's home island
@@fenris5932 oh I see how it could seem like madness, but they all died smiling and to me that's means a lot, maybe not a strength focused Emperor power, but just letting the mind wander about I can imagine the Rumbar Pirates eventually reaching Laugh Tale in an alternate timeline, with just the power and influence of their laughs and music, after all those are the Bink's Sake musicians
@@camiloflores1592 I love Brook but I would absolutely hate that reveal since Brook isn't anywhere near that level of strength and he was the freaking captain after Yorki died. In my honest opinion that would just be ass.
I was sold on Brook instantly because how could I *not* love a singing fencing Afro skeleton who loves bad puns and laughs like a stereotypical pirate? But he wasn’t one of my favorites until one moment that jumped out to me in Fishman Island that I feel goes way overlooked, and it made his one on one battle my favorite for the entire arc. When Zeo is ordering his men to their deaths in order to “leave a grudge,” that was the first time we saw Brook get angry. Not just angry, but absolutely furious. He’s a man who knows death better than anyone else alive. He knows to cherish life because of how fleeting it is, how final death is, and here’s some d-bag gleefully ordering his own men to die En mass for the sake of an empty, soulless hatred that won’t even accomplish anything. This was the moment that opened my eyes to see just how mature and wise Brook actually is beneath the inappropriate jokes and poor manners and panty obsession.
6:00 That conversation is probably the darkest One Piece has gone. Robin and Brook just casually talking about how deeply scarred they are, how they are used to the pain... I just want to take them to a safe place where they can live the rest of their lives in comfort and happiness, I know the sadness and loneliness of getting used to suffering
I was typing out half a thesis about why I loved Brook so much while watching the video, only to realise that Merphy was making the exact same points as I was. Brook's the GOAT. He's the guy who gets shit done while you're not looking, and the fact that he's still able to be that upbeat despite his more than tragic backstory is awesome.
Brook is my 3rd fav strawhat. That cake island reveal of his powers on how he's a great counter to Big Mums power was soooo satisfying. Everything else he does is just a pro gamer move. 😂
The time when Brook sacrificed himslef to try to save Usopp and Sanji from Kuma at Sabaody Archipellago was really heartbreaking. He was trying his best to save his new family that he got after 50 years..
Brook's laugh being part of the song Bink's sake (that was written by Oda himself) can not be just a coincidence. Hes VERY important to the story i think.
One of my most favourite quotes from the show is "Im so glad i lived" or "im so happy to be alive" Like... to know the guy literally must've thought of offing himself so many times.... Idk how many people realise that 50 years is such a long time that by the end of it you're a totally different person
I loved this video! Such an underrated character and one that I adore. Brook is usually not taking the lead on things but he’s always there supporting the crew. He truly is a “utility” type character.
Brook is my favourite straw hat and 45° is up there as one of my favourite goofy moments in the series. Him attempting a more acute angle while he thinks how to get stronger during the time skip just cracks me up! Like how would that help? Comedy gold. Love the guy. Also his fashion sense is always on point.
It's so refreshing to hear someone put my thoughts on Brook into words. He's my favourite Strawhat and so full of hope and kindness and life (even though he's a skeleton)
Brook for me is like the teacher in the room that is naturally great with children in the arts l. Despite his immense talents he supports them in ways for them to shine and I love it. His backstory both in the manga and the anime made me cry the hardest. When Brook and Laboon reunite, I'm going to cry like a baby.
Finally, some appreciation for my best boy Brook! One point I'd like to add is that Brook is an extrovert, someone who gains energy by being with other people. Which is why the 50 year isolation on that ship was an especially cruel fate for him in particular.
Nice video on our guy brook! I thought he does/says weird things because he was alone for 50 years so he forgot how to interact with others. But he’s dependable funny and smart, can always count on him. I remember when you didn’t like him haha
Honestly, Brook is my second favorite straw hat. He makes the most of an existential horror beyond understanding and that he embodies the kind of maturity I want to have. He reminds me a ton of my Grandpa and I can't not love him for it
The east blue five has always been my top 5 in the series and that's probably never gonna change, but Brook is the only character that ever came close to cracking that list
A lot of people sleep on Brook and Franky but the Brook stocks definitely rose significantly post time skip. I also really like how talented the Japanese voice actors are for Franky and Brook. They get across their eclectic personalities extremely well. Plus, that Nekomamushi song is straight 🔥.
brook, much like music, is not *needed*. You dont need music to survive, and neither do the strawhats need brook to find the One Piece. However. Every life is improved by the presence of music in unimaginable ways. Music adds so much to life, vibrancy, melancholy, catharsis, you name it. Brook provides that with his music and his support to the Strawhats. Having him on the crew makes the journey that much more vibrant, that much more enjoyable, that much more worth it. Brook adds provides the crew with what music adds to our lives. He's brilliant.
Btw, another great banger from you. Brook is my favourite SH outside of Luffy. I'm just drawn to people who's effort go unnoticed cause they are very aspiring to me. There's just something so amazing about being able to do so much while have all of that go unnoticed. It's the small gestures that what also got me.
Brook is my top 3 strawhat, along with robin and luffy. I loved him right from the beginning as part of my loving luffy. Seeing how excited luffy was to see a talking skeleton made me like him. I also love cold jokes with how miserably they just failed so oda's humor with brooks just landed for me. then learning that he was a musician just sealed the deal with me. He was the long awaited strawhat musician. How can you not be excited. Knowing his backstory with laboon just skyrocketed him to the top. And every moments he had since he joined makes me love him more.
Brook has always been one of my favorite Straw Hats. He is the ultimate personification of a bard, or musician, someone whose -sole- soul (yohoho) focus is supporting his allies and alleviating their pain and suffering. He is there to make sure his friends accomplish their goals while keeping a smile on their faces.
i thank you so much for spreading the love for brook. hard disagree on that title though if it was meant to be more than a pun. SPOILER WARNING i personally think that you are right, brook adds more to the crew than just his jokes, however the big problem is that oda doesnt seem to feel the same way about brook. in great parts of the story his is character is not this deep and he just blends in with the rest and is just another one in the trio of dirty jokes. yes he used to add the calm collected character at times, but since the arrival of jinbei, he does not have that going for him anymore. now jinbei is exactly what u praised in brook / made him unique. even though i love jinbei i hope brook still finds a way to stay at least partly unique. (his bone jokes are not what makes him unique, that would be like reducing robin to her death "jokes")
I rewatched your WCI videos in the last couple of days, so I can picture perfectly the moment you were converted into a Brook believer, and I love how here, when you were proposing potential complaints about Brook's joining, you voiced your own complaints, most of them now buried under everything that's great (and excruciatingly sad) about Brook
Mind blown, new levels of appreciation for Brooke. So glad i saw you on GrandLine. Youre takes as a reader introduces me to layers i never thought of to characters. LOVE IT
Love any and all support for my boy Brook. Let us not forget he took on a Yonko by himself and declared that Luffy will be the Pirate King. His stare down of bug mom was my favorite part of Whole Cake Island. He feels like the adult on the crew until Jinbie officially joined the crew. Love that he just gets stuff done and moves on.
The only proof of how awesome Brook is that I need: I still enjoy listening to his laugh. Hundreds of episodes later, it's not annoying, it's a joy. That and come on... 45 degrees?! smooth.
I think the thing that made him search for powers in the 2 years vs the 50 (?) he was at sea was that he just got used to his powers then got used to the cycle of isolation, so he had no curiosity to. Meanwhile, in that 2 years, he was saved from his despair, given a family, happiness, reinvigorated his hope, and then had it all torn away. Of course that contrast felt worse and made him strive to get power to return to his family. And that’s such a dark aspect of him-being so in despair he was likely just living day by day, going insane.
I love Brook so much. He has such a funny energy, and his fighting style is so cool! The thing I love about him the most is what you talked about here, but I'd like to add that I love the way he jokes about specifically the things he is missing. His eyes, his skin, his _life._ There's almost no way that's not his attempt to cope with the loss of what he no longer has by either making himself laugh or his new friends. I believe it's anime only, but the way he echoes his own joke as a genuine lament in Onigashima during the illusion about not having a heart, but being sad and in pain, was so powerful to me. As someone who often uses humor to cope with grief and loss in a positive way, I find him so very charming and relatable. I think he's a wonderful supporting Straw Hat and I love it when he does get to shine, because he does so INCREDIBLY brightly. Easily a top 5 Straw Hat for me (Miss Nico Robin is my favorite, and I very much enjoy their bond as well). Really great video!!! I loved the analysis! Super stoked to watch more of your videos :] (Also, can I just say how incredible he looked in his red and black suit in the latter half of WCI? Hear me out...)
If we're talking about the times he shined in the background we have to talk about his attitude in Wano when he was fighting alongside Robin. He knew from the get go that she would be able to win the fight and besides not knowing her that much he made a perfect assessment of her personality and instantly understood her loneliness when they were chatting while having to deal with the illusions. Brook's awesome
Something that I noticed about Brook is that he tends to be incredibly polite, even charming, to almost everyone he meets. After all, he's one of the few Strawhats that always addresses his other nakama with honorifics (even calling their captain Luffy-san), and he always ASKS to see the panties of young ladies, like a gentleman, instead of just trying to take a peak like a savage. And yet simultaneously it seems that he does not really care about how he himself is perceived due to his goofiness and eccentric behavior. I think the later can be chalked up to both the trauma defense talked about in the video and him being an old man who has reached the "fuck it" stage of not caring about what others think of him too much. But the former -- his politeness -- doesn't really track from most American perspectives. After all, most Americans see politeness and etiquette as something used to elevate how others perceive you and to distinguish oneself as an individual of "class" and "culture". However, I think Brook's reasoning for why he is so polite to others is very different and selfless. I remember a LOTR panel that featured John Rhys-Davies in which he gave advice on why people are polite to each other. He said that when you are polite to someone you are making them comfortable and more at ease, and that it is a form of service to others to help them in otherwise anxious situations. I very much think that that mentality concerning politeness and etiquette is VERY Japanese as well (considering the culture's seeming phobia of social confrontation and not wanting to create awkward situations for others), but also fits Brook so very well. So very much of what he does is in service to his crew and keeping their morale high, and I see his politeness as a natural extension of that.
Brook is one of the big reasons I got back into One Piece when I was younger. I had learned that one of Luffy's newer crewmates was a singing Skeleton with an Afro and it really made me wanna see what that was like. Since then, Brook has become one of my favorite Straw Hats and my appreciation for his character has only grown as I've gotten older. My favorite aspect of him is how much he values life. Because he knows what it's like to lose your life, he takes every opportunity to appreciate the second chance he got.
When I saw how you went from not being into Brook to starting to get him I was completely enchanted. I have always loved him, awkwardness and intrusiveness included. I think that, from all the straw hats, for as much as I empathize with their trauma, Brook’s hit hard and close. The loneliness and isolation and the way he clung to his crew so desperately was too much at the time for me. And k have always enjoy seeing him shine and see his devotion towards the crew in the small and background moments. Thank you for spreading the love for him ❤ and as always, it’s always lovely seeing your videos!!
Me, a 6'6" middle aged musician and Father who uses corny puns to diffuse situations and who tried to grow his hair into a bush when younger: Brook is my favorite character YOHOHOHO
Merphy thank you for showing Brook some love !! He is very underrated and doesn’t get to show off much but when he does it’s insane! His line to Big Mom in Whole Cake calling her a young lady and cut Prometheus ?!!! That was a dare I say Cold moment 💀
That's a great observation that Brook somehow only managed to get stronger during the timeskip instead of the 5 decades he spent wandering aimlessly. I think a big part of it is he had Luffy to get stronger for this time (which goes for all the Strawhats) instead of just himself - and indeed he probably was halfway to giving up during his isolation.
This video nearly made me cry. Brook is such a valuable member to the crew and seeing how you assess his character made me tear up. He is ALWAYS there for his crew and is so loyal and strong and I’m glad you see that and are able to make others see it. Every Straw Hat plays their part but Brooks plays he’s so well that we forget to give him the credit he deserves. Thank you for this video, it was beautiful!
I LOVE BROOK, im a sucker for the dark, goth, and gloom asthetic, loved brook from the get go. especially the juxtaposition he had as a scary creep and a funny musician. They dont fit together but with brook it works so well. Personally I chose to belive that brook got his power up because he was able to explore is powers with help. In isolation he didnt have any mentors, peers, rivals, fans, materials etc to help him. during the time skip he changed from primarily being a violin player to being a guitarist, imo this change in instramuuents also helps a person learn alot about yourself. Simialr to how athletes will try differnt sports during the off season to challenge themselves.
Brook has been in the darkest place one could be for 50 years. I don't see his optimism as a survival mechanism. Rather I think, after losing his old family and being alone, what else could compare to the darkness he faced through all those decades. Everything else, even the hardships would seem much more joyful afterwards, because the worst that could have happened to him is already behind him.
Brook is my third favorite SH after Robin and Nami, the way you'll never ever see him being negative or irritable or anything bad for the mood in front of his crew, but when he gets his solo moments like with Big Mom being totally serious and realistic, the fact that he knows how screwed up everything can get, but is the first to make sure the crew doesn't worry about that, because he'll worry for them, he makes jokes and play music to entertain them, that is one piece at its core, that's Luffy at its core "why do all this if we won't have fun doing it?" And the fact that Luffy was obsessed with having a musician from the very behinning of the story, makes me appreciate Brook so much more, because he 100% lives to what his captain needed of him: loyalty, brains, guts, but overall entertainment and fun. The scene at shabondy were he was with chopper, chopper super stressed out and brook like "relax man, have a cup of tea, let's wait it out, there's nothing we can do" and I think Usopp finds them just chillin' and goes berserk, that was the scene that fully sold me, and made me love the character, because regardless of the gag, his perspective was so mature and so true!
I love Brook! It seems like a lot of people dislike him and question his place in the Strawhat crew. I agree with your points here though, that he adds an important perspective to the group and a lot of his behavior and actions are meant to lighten or assist the other members of the crew, despite his own unfortunate background. Thanks for the video!
I've loved Brook from the moment he was introduced, honestly! You summed up greatly everything about his character that makes me love him. I'm also convinced that something about Brook's past will still come up in the story, similar to Sanji. There was no reason for Oda to mention in a throwaway line that Brook had an important position in his kingdom before becoming a pirate, if it wasn't something that connected to something else in the story. Brook has also had a couple of moments in the New World where he reacts to a line fairly nonchalantly, but with a certain about of "..." that made me feel like Brook knows a little more than he's letting on at times. I love him being a reliable support too, so I'm excited to see his story to the end no matter what happens!
Brook being a support character is where he excels though because not only does he give great support but when he does get moments in the story it just makes them more cool
One of the best Brook moments in my opinion is after he finds out that Pedro has died. They had barely spent any time together, but they had developed such a good friendship over that short time that when he learns that Pedro sacrificed himself, you see how his usual jokey manner just completely cracks, and he breaks down in what almost seems like some sort of PTSD moment. He likes to joke around to lighten the mood, but when someone he cares about deeply dies, and he wasn't able to save them, he stops being funny skeleton man, and becomes a very sad and depressed person. This is also part of why he shows so much respect to Luffy, as he is someone who constantly puts his own life on the line to save others, and as such, together with both their senses of humor, he feels a deep connection to him. And he also feels indepted to him, not only due to Luffy getting his shadow back, but he gave Brook a new opportunity to make things right with Laboon. Brook is a great character!
One thing that I believe that helped Brook's positive outlook during the time skip was Luffy's promise to the crew with 3D× 2Y stunt at Marineford. This was a simple mirroring of what Laboon has to go through, by both his old crew and now the straw hats, and this is the first time in a long time someone promised Brook that they will see him again. So Brook waited patiently cause he has friends to see again and because he has a captain he believes.
Brook is a criminally underrated character in one piece... He is one of my favorites in one piece, especially for the complex multifaceted aspects of his character as a jokester, musician, incredible loyalty, his maturity to understand others and support them accordingly in the background without making it visibly evident, his broader outlook in analysing the situation at hand n doithe necessary thing or assisting other for the goal, his most tragic past and his defense mechanism to cope with it, his skull jokes never get old... his old-fashioned gentlemanly behavior from his times which is reflected in his speech patterns and mannerisms juxtaposed with his crude awkward social interactions like panty jokes, fart jokes etc... all of these awkward weird things also he does with a gentlemanly polite demeanor ... Eg : using phrases like "May I please" or "Excuse me" etc.. His perspective on the world as an old-timer (50yrs ago)..., his humor, his sarcasm... to diffuse the tension, as well as during his fights.. delivering cool lines... as well as his cool, stylistic, reliable, intense and serious but sarcastic persona when he fights... So many great things ... He is one of if not the best supporting characters of all time... especially those who function in the background
I adore Brook so much. While the panty jokes can be off-putting sometimes, nobody can deny that Brook is one of the most unquestionably loyal members of the crew and as you said, his personality is something that is needed in such a dark world like One Piece.
It's always great when Brook get respect on his name. He's been my favorite Strawhat for a while now, simply because of how supportive he is of the rest of his family. I absolutely adore him
Within the straw hat group I think Brook is that fun but reliable uncle! He will come to your side the moment you are in trouble no matter how big or small while also cracking jokes that are hit or miss, but always good hearted.
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO!!!! I love ALL of my straw hats so so much, and I love having more love for the lesser loved characters :]]] BROOOOOOOOOOOOKKK!!!!!
Brook is my Favorite Straw Hat. I think a big reason as to why he's more than happy to play the support role and not be the leader is because he failed as captain of the Rumbar Pirates. Yorki entrusted the remaining crew to Brook when he fell ill and left. The situation that resulted in all of them dying was Brook's fault as acting Captain. That feeling Luffy got on Sabaody, when the crew was all blown away by Kuma... Brook lived with and was reminded of every day in the Florian Triangle.
Brook is a supportive character. Some people think that's bad. But he is great at this role. Look at his interaction with Robin in Onigashima. And yeah, he was the MVP of WCI. Not to say that we still have his back story, probably the saddest one in the story.
I am so ready for his second backstory at some point in time.
More would be great but I'm satisfied on his underdog support role as he already an experienced pirate.
he has a great back story considering he is without a back YOHOHOHOHOHO
He is a support character, but you can bet he'll get a 1v1 fight with someone on Blackbeard's crew.
Brook has so many more important character moments, but my favourite is still when he addressed Big Mom as "Young lady" when he must have thought he was going to certain death.
It would have given me goosebumps
... That is, if I had any skin
Yohohohooooooo
good one!
Fact!
i didn't watch the anime but even reading the manga i had to take a moment it was just SO GOOD i loved it
The balls (or lack there of) when he asked big mom to show him her panties
Brook is a character that already has had his adventure, and he lost everything on it. He doesn't need to go on the main stage, he's happy to play support in the background as long as he has someone to perform with.
But he's a Strawhat and one of the main characters
@@jackroberts2704 Okay? He's still a support character who acts in the background
Thats super well put tbh, i like that example
@@anotherpawn I thought you were saying he shouldn't get more focus
I feel like as Sanji is thrust into the spotlight more and more, Brook has kind of taken on the sneaky “Mr. prince” sleuthing role and it suits him perfectly
Sanji had to be in the spotlight as he's gonna face some of the strongest forces
Their combo would be dope tho
Especially against a major opp like BB
WCI really did this well and made me love him even more!
Not every character needs a cool fight against a top commander every arc. I've always been happy with Brook clearing out random mook enemies and cracking jokes. Standing up to Big Mom and actually doing well against her is one of my top 5 events that have happened in the series.
He was the first Straw Hat to fight an emperor and it was amazing!
I still think he has to get one against the Blackbeard crew.
fr bruh
@@jackroberts2704 mayb aokiji hahahaa who knows at this point
@@BadKarma444
Sorry but I dont see your points....
@@MigsMcgee valid point
On a side note brook VA is absolutely perfect in anime. His voice gives out the happiness hiding pain absolutely perfectly.
This is why I need the series to finish ASAP. If the VA passes away, I don't think anyone could replace him. He has a very unique voice in the industry.
The one piece anime sounds so good! Voice and Music are off the charts.
Too bad pacing and visuals don't keep up.
Even the english dub va is pretty good. His rendition of Bink's Sake in english did it justice to say the least
Even the Dub surprisingly is really good.
Definitely the best dub voice in the anime.
@@robertreyes8792his voice is perfect in the dub.
Brook was the first crew member to join after I caught up, so he joined the crew at the same time I joined the fandom.
U must be a pervy skeleton
I was very lucky, got see Brook join just in time to see everyone get separated by Kuma, after which we only got to see the other SHs in a 14 page cover serial. Anime watchers are spoiled, you got several episodes of the the other SHs, we got essentially 14 text less panels
@@t.c.thompson2359 it was only half an episode each if I remember correctly. but we did at least get to hear them and everything. Only just caught up to the anime a few weeks ago I got lucky having everything out by the time I started lol
Brook took the role that Sanji had of supporting the crew in the shadows silently, every little cool thing (not fighting)
that Sanji did before thriller bark, is like mirror of what Brook has done since.

@@thicciroh Whoops
That was pretty much my experience. I didn’t feel to strongly about him at first, but his role in WCI made me appreciate him a lot more
It's crazy how well you put this into words.
Wrong. Brooke is the Clutch King 👑
No brook is the back BONE
To be honest I struggle in choosing who I love more Brook or Luffy. I usually put them as a tie on my tier list.
One thing I've thought about is that despite his cheery attitude brook has really dark thoughts, you already mentioned some like being grounded for the worst situations
But even then, we have the greatest sign of his pain.
"I'm so glad to be alive", broke explained in tears. Why does he say that? Maybe is just appreciation for life, everyone should be grateful after all, but before... He had nothing, he has hopeless, anyone would think "why am I still alive?" Even Franky says he would end it all if he were to go through something like that
So Brook is someone who thought a lot of taking his own life, at least I think, who always was in the verge of giving up, yet he pushed onwards. And now he is glad that his efforts were paid for, glad he... Didn't give up on life
Such a deeply hurt man that only wants for no one to go through what he suffered.
He needs more team ups with robin. Comedy gold and emotional proably. Dark comedy is the best.
@@marocat4749 They work well together. So do him and Franky as the weird guys of the crew.
@@fenris5932 I really wouldn't be mad if Brook does something spectacular and the Gorosei/Marines discuss it and they say "No wonder, If the Rumbar Pirates were active on this age they would be considered Emperors of the sea""
And there's also Brook's former job as royal (I think) guard
Im sorry I just love Brook hahah
One of my most favourite quotes from the show is "Im so glad i lived" or "im so happy to be alive"
Like... to know the guy literally must've thought of offing himself so many times.... Idk how many people realise that 50 years is such a long time that by the end of it you're a totally different person
I think it's really sweet how, when the crew reunites, Brook is the only one crying when he sees Luffy. Brook has a very strong spirit.
Brook is great. He's all heart. Even though he has no heart! YOHOHOHOHO!
Brook is a cheerful old man, and I love him for it.
Brooke is my favorite member of the Straw Hats, I just love his attitude with everything
I love how much you love Brook, because I do too. Now get Daniel Greene on the phone and tell him to stop underating Brook and not liking him. 😂😂😂
Before watching the video in full I must say I fully agree with every thing that you're going to say👍🏼
That's the way 😂
Brook is my favorite char, yohohoho yo ho hoho. Dude deserves all the love.
Fun anecdote - my friend had Binki sake played during his wedding party XD
He reminds me a ton of my Grandpa and I can't not love him for it
Brook knows his dream will be completed. So he's happy just being a part of a family again.
"Brook doesn't get enough love" that's all I needed to like the video
How do you make me tear up as you describe his WCI arc. Damn your analysis is probably the best
brook, much like music, is not *needed*.
Brook wasn't only drifting literally out on the sea, but emotionally drifting before meeting the Strawhats.
The title made me roll my eyes - matching with practically every joke Brook makes 🤣
Brook and Chopper are my favorite straw hats. Something about the horribly tragic backstories gets me lol
i thank you so much for spreading the love for brook. hard disagree on that title though if it was meant to be more than a pun.
SPOILER WARNING
i personally think that you are right, brook adds more to the crew than just his jokes, however the big problem is that oda doesnt seem to feel the same way about brook. in great parts of the story his is character is not this deep and he just blends in with the rest and is just another one in the trio of dirty jokes. yes he used to add the calm collected character at times, but since the arrival of jinbei, he does not have that going for him anymore. now jinbei is exactly what u praised in brook / made him unique. even though i love jinbei i hope brook still finds a way to stay at least partly unique. (his bone jokes are not what makes him unique, that would be like reducing robin to her death "jokes")
Brook is my favorite Straw Hat with his hilarity & his COOL abilities.
45 degrees?! smooth.
I like brook a lot and you've reminded me why
Thank you Merphy
Super stoked to watch more of your videos :]
(Also, can I just say how incredible he looked in his red and black suit in the latter half of WCI?
We all love Brook out here 🙌
My favorite Strawhat getting the love (and video) he deserves
The face everyone makes when thinking about One Piece theories 6:15
This is the face of intense internal theory crafting lol
For sure. I agree completely. More love to Brook
That was a dare I say Cold moment 💀
as a musician and appreciator of Puns... I ABSOLUTELY LOVE BROOK. FAVOURITE STRAWHAT!!
I love that you made this video. I love brook and he's a great character who is a real subtle mvp
When feeling forgotten or left behind, "Yohohoho" becomes my meditative sound.
Brook is my 2nd Favorite character Behind Zoro and I have faith that ODA will give him more amazing moments in the future 🙏
Brook's is legitimately one of my favorites already. Everytime I think about what Brook went through makes me cry and want to hug him so bad.
His perspective on the world as an old-timer (50yrs ago)...,
his humor, his sarcasm... to diffuse the tension, as well as during his fights.. delivering cool lines... as well as his cool, stylistic, reliable, intense and serious but sarcastic persona when he fights...
I’m on vacation but I had to watch this as soon as I woke up. Love Brook so much.
Great video I love it. 😊
Lmao Daniel absolutely hates brook his latest Berserk videos he slanders him for absolutely no reason 😂
Not all skeletons have to be Skull Knights. Goblin is just scared of Brooks's rizz.
Me, whose third favorite strawhat is brook: Ah yes, a video trying to convince me to love afro boney man. I'll watch
This was such good analyzation of Brook, he's one of my favorites!
10:50 the sign of a great leader, and one thing all leaders need to learn is when to follow. Brook demonstrates that constantly.
I loved Brook from the start because he had the best character introduction! Brook is the man!
It's always great when Brook get respect on his name. He's been my favorite Strawhat for a while now, simply because of how supportive he is of the rest of his family. I absolutely adore him
This seems like the perfect video to say, "Please, let me see your pantie" lmbo Bone Joke 😆 I luv brook he's so ridiculous.
Within the straw hat group I think Brook is that fun but reliable uncle! He will come to your side the moment you are in trouble no matter how big or small while also cracking jokes that are hit or miss, but always good hearted.
My Boi, Pedro and Brook combo is sick, and I love Brook's line delivery on "Pedro"
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO!!!! I love ALL of my straw hats so so much, and I love having more love for the lesser loved characters :]]] BROOOOOOOOOOOOKKK!!!!!
Him calling Big Mom “Young Lady” was so epic. I love Brook so much
Brook is the perfect mix between tragedy and comedy
Brook's been my favorite character for years. I love him so much.
