- Editor’s note: Since this story was published, questions have been raised about the true identity of "Shay Johnson," who claimed to be Tyre Sampson’s cousin and was collecting signatures for a petition. Sampson’s family has told officials that they do not know Johnson and that she is not a member of the family. Johnson spoke to several media outlets, including FOX 35, and attended events and memories in honor of Sampson, claiming to be his cousin. No charges have been filed, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
Around 200 people attended a balloon release for a boy killed on an Orlando ride. His memorial continues to grow and even strangers are stopping the Orlando FreeFall attraction at ICON Park to pay their respects.

They turned him away and he kept coming back and throwing fits for being told NO. His parents also left him UNSUPERVISED while they stayed home in a different state. The ride should and will STAY opened. Period.

The loss is incredibly devastating. Thank you to everyone who was able to go out and support the family. A balloon release isn’t the best idea for the environment, but these strangers coming together in this way and even actively signing a petition for a change is beautiful and I really hope it works. No one else should ever go through this horror.

@@NickyD I’m not telling them how to grieve. I’m just saying that releasing balloons really isn’t the greatest for the environment. Aside from that, it warms my heart to see so many people going out to support the family and coming together to try and make a change to keep others from experiencing the same fate and emotional trauma that horrendous accident caused.
What about having mothers SUPERVISE their kids instead of blaming an attraction for not babysitting their children for them?...

This was horrific and preventable. What a terrible loss. I hope Samson's family can find peace from all the love and support from everyone across the country and beyond. I know that this is a tragic accident but they probably not going to take it down, that like staying let take all the car off the road because of all the people that die in car accidents. The ride will probably reopen in a couple months and people will ride it again just like ride at other theme parks that people die on

@@jillianbalcazar5491 the harness was securely in place, that angle just wasn't right for Tyrees body. He slipped through the massive gap in the bottom of the harness that was there due to his stomach, but the harness never released/opened more. In fact it closed, once the ride is completely down in the raw video, you see his harness is closed more than when he was originally in it.
Operators don't need to do a physical check on this ride, it's optional because the ride won't start anyways unless everyone is "secure". I don't think it should be optional, they should check anyway.
It looks to me like they found a safety flaw, with someone's life, because they did NOT do enough safety tests. Keep in mind they didn't train their employees right. I was just at this park and employees told me there's no maximum weight or height limit, and the manual was just released, saying weight limit is 280lbs. Both Tyree AND my friend who rode with me should not have ever been let on

@@danielgallimore1502 this ride is new, with sensors that make it possible. All the rides at this park are like that I believe, except for starflyer? So, that leaves freefall and slingshot. They're made by the same manufacturer and were built at the same time (or close enough) a couple months ago.
@@teenat7044 i hear you on that sensor thing,but every ride i been on like that someone comes and pushes down on the harness and those rides had seatbelt styled clips that held the harness closed in case of failure…if the operator wasnt yapping his guns to that guy and girl and went around to push down on the harness he would still be alive..he was obviously too big for that ride…teslas have plenty sensors on that car and they still malfunction and crash

Actually I looked at the video again and the Harness failed and latched itself in the fully closed position. You can see it when he slips out immediately and you can see it once the ride came back, the seat was fully closed. Very tragic and also an operator error. RIP

Please, I want this GM to take the stand in a lawsuit and state this claim. If he does maybe they can seek criminal charges as well. It's apparent what happened here. Look at the gaping hole with the inspector on it at 1:26. This young life was lost because his body was squeezed through this opening via the high gforce acting on his body. If the gforce experienced was over 2g, that means forces in excess of 700lbs! If it's not needed, how did he fall through? Let me guess, it was the boys fault? Please, sue this company for every penny it has!
The company is correct, IT WORKS AS DESIGNED! It locks and does a GREAT JOB AT THAT! What it fails to do is to restrain people from falling. THAT IS THE POINT OF THE LOCKS! If it locks and people fall through, YOU HAVE A FAULTY ENGINEERING DESIGN! END OF STORY! Sue them and shut it down!
I agree... Hypothetically, the "locks" were designed to restrain riders. However, the "total force" from gravity, acceleration, body mass, and inertia could not be confined, especially with a "poor" engineer decision to "tilt" the ride during its decent.

This is such a tragedy, this Friday I watched as the children of his school he attended had made a parade march around the neighborhood with signs they drew. From his football jersey with his #40 to signs of we will miss you. It was a somber moment to watch yet the children attending made me feel as if their spirt for life for others made me feel good. Just innocent kids. As a father myself I couldn’t imagine a loss of a child at the hands of a theme park that is responsible for the safety of paying customers. I feel for his family and all who new this young man. He had so much more of life too live.

All the kid had to do is obey simple instructions. They have weight and height limits for a reason. Just like bridges, roads and highways have. But then again, if all the park personnel refused to let this kid ride, the family would've sued for discrimination and, of course, racism as well. I just watched the raw footage of him falling and while I feel traumatized seeing that, it doesn't even match to the trauma of the people who were actually there. I am so, so sorry that this happened to Tyre. The ride workers shouldn't have let him get on the ride. This could've been avoided if they just didn't let him get on. Rest in peace, Tyre. I rode a ride, very similar to that ride, at 6 Flags in GA. I felt like I was slipping out of the seat while we were waiting at the top, before dropping back to the ground. Then we started the fall back down and I really thought I was going to come out of the seat. I wouldn't ever ride that ride again.
Now this confirms my fears weren't in vain.
They need to ban this kind of ride forever!

Are you sure that the shoulder harnesses were working properly when they are not skinny, because in the report video, young people ask if the shoulder harness locks. The guy in charge of the rides should check if the shoulder restraint system operates correctly on every one of them. It is a life or death situation. If they don't lock, for sure there will be more human sacrifice or deaths not just in this ride but all those dangerous rides in those places where the government don't even regulate them making it more dangerous. A lot of times when people really look at the danger of these rides is when a innocent victim is already dead. Parents be more careful and tell your children that if any of these rides look hazardous, better avoid them at all costs and that if any mechanical problems occur while being on these rides, you may die so better think 🤔 It is better for the child to be mad at you than not having him or her alive for the rest of your life and children if one doesn't want to ride because they really see the danger, don't tease, or laugh at that person. Be mature and respect them about their decision they made ok it is time for people to mature. It's 2022 and the end is more near. God wants the lost to repent and safe and choose to be fair and love humanity no matter the race or language. All those rides should be closed 🔐 forever. It's not fair for humans to die just for some rich to make money off of such dangerous rides to attract tourists when the safety for everyone is far more important. Families, if you live in Christ you will see him in the Eden and resurrection, God 🙏 promises. Jesus loves you. Be brave and God will comfort you and guide you. Why do people keep saying "this should've never happened." Anything can happen with these type of rides. That is why I do not go on them. This ride should not be taken down. First of all, the victim was 6' 5" and near 300 lbs. It is a sad loss and freak accident.
