This is exactly how southern or mountain country people make children and dumplings, not chicken and biscuits, no canned soup, etc. It's inexpensive, delicious, and you can just as easily make enough to feed 4 or 20 people! Thanks for sharing.
Donna I made these chicken and dumplings for dinner tonight BEST chicken and dumplings I ever made I also made your cornbread yes please and I made the donut holes for dessert YUMO!! Thank you for sharing everyone loved it
@@carolswatsenbarg2876 alot of times it depends on what pot your using could cause more sticking than usual.. also how high is the heat and when moving them around always be sure to stir the very bottom to be sure all is good hope this helps❤
My grandma used to make this. She would actually use some of the broth to make the dough and add more water back to the pot along with more chicken bullion into the water to make the broth again.
Hello melissa, the video is demonstration so it would be good to watch some steps 3 cups chicken I use some dark meat and white meat 12 cups water 3 big tablespoons chicken bullion 2 teaspoons garlic powder 2 teaslespoons onion powder 1/4 tsp poultry seasoning ...can also add a few carrots and celery if you like then remove it makes a good stock. Salt,pepper to liking cook 2 hours on low pull out and chop chicken meanwhile I add dumplings to stock cook low 25 mins stirring gently a few times ..after 25 minutes add the chicken simmer 10 mins and its done ..let it set awhile for the dumplings to relax I wait at least one hour. Dumplings 3 cups all purpose flour 1/3 cup shortening 1 1/2 tsp salt 2 teaspoons baking powder 1 to 1 1/4 cup milk just enough to make soft dough Do not over work dough Follow video as much as you can..and at the end the gravy I wanted thicker so I added a few teaspoons of flour with some cold water to make a slurry and poored it in the pot to thicken the gravy. I don't have " mama's " bowl she made the dough in, since she had a temper tantrum and THREW the glass bowl at me and after hitting me in the abdomen it then fell to the floor and broke in a lot of tiny pieces, of course my feet were cut also !!!!!!!!!!! I use basically the same recipe, except I don't use milk, and I use a pizza cutter to slice my dumplings !
