If the glass would come out today with prescription lenses and with the things what smart watches can do today and the device would itself cost 300-500€ I would definitely think about getting one. The form factor should be little bit slimmer where all the main components are just so it would be easier to use every hour when awake but other than that it's very beautiful peace of technology even for today's standards.

One interesting observation, I personally experienced while using mine. I was at a vintage vehicle rally, I was using it to record exhibits, outside. I was approached by various people who were objecting to being, or possibly being photographed or filmed. I pointed out there were people openly filming with video cameras and smart phones, but they were choosing to single me out because of the device I was using, and how ridiculous their objections and stance was. This is I’m happy to say rare, but does happen. Perhaps this was in some way a partial reason for their popularity declining, people saw their use as evasive, where video cameras and smart phones are not.
That said I still use mine, and the results are well worth the effort. I would agree, if some one is willing to give them a go, and is prepared to risk receiving ones that have been fully reset which would need registered to the nonexistent Glass website, then go for it. Interestingly enough I registered mine with my Google account before the demise of the website, so all the functionality remains on mine, other than being able to add more.

I would have loved a pair. But i remember the masses moaning about privacy, and google saying they wouldn't implement such features as face recognition. For me, face recognition (even if only of my social contacts) would be the killer app. Social prompts - a persons name, birthday, kids birthdays, holiday photos from facebook etc would help me immensely. Perhaps Facebook AR will try and go down this route. I hope so.

Youre kinda right. I bought one a few years ago and recently used it to record video. I originally bought it to watch movies, which can be done with some finagling. True though, the interface is crazy clean, sound excellent, picture excellent. But, i cant help but be self conscious about wearing it in public. But, youre right about its sleekness, nothing else comes close and this feels about as minimal as you can get. They never got a keyboard close to this, and interaction is limited. If they had just spent a little more time on app handling, people would realize the potential. As for now, ill enjoy its video recording, as there doesnt seem to be many if any other similar options that can record for as long as the glass can.

Glass was years ahead of it's time and I've had a pair since day one. And I still use Glass today, though I have less functionality than you as I have the final update which really only leaves me with video and pix. Google were insane to abandon Glass for consumers and turn off the platform. They did that on the back of pressure from fuckwit trolls banging on about privacy (as though anyone could give a shit about what they were doing). The developer community for Glass was vibrant with tons of useful apps and by turning it all off Google shot themselves in the foot. If they turned it all back on now and flogged Glass for $500 or so it would sell in the millions. I've tried all the rest of the XR glasses that are available but none of them are as useful or wearable all day like Glass is. Sure it has a more limited functionality but it does what it does very well. Why no one else has copied the design and done what Google should have done properly god knows....(oh and if anyone else is thinking of copying Glass, please add a snap-in replaceable battery. Thanks)

Great video. I totally agree with your synopsis. I was originally waiting for a full customer version to be released. This would be so useful today for people like myself who use multimeters etc. Information that is normally display on a device you have to hold whilst working could be displayed on the google glass would be life changing. But I do recall there being another issue, that of battery life. I seem to recall they only lasted around 15 minutes which would be no good in the real world. Assuming you could get them to at least 24hrs continuous use, they would be great. You could have schematic's displayed, see a 3D view of parts that you are working on (ideal for mechanic's/engineers). You could have a map display real world for directions whilst you walk. The uses would be limitless. I am totally with you on wanting this type of device available. I would also want them to look reasonable slick similar to your set of googles glass'. I certainly would not like the type that looks like value glasses from the 1970's. Again great video Stu, keep up the good work. Maybe we need a petition to bring back google glass!

Thx for the video. Good work. My issue is that this video was made in the very begging of the last half of 2021. ie mid 2021. I get that you want the views, but just forwarding the year so you can get more hits in 2022 doesn't help people looking for actually current information. It actually causes them outdated information. If not so now, then almost certainly later in 2022. I'm certain you are aware of this phenomenon (the upping of the year) whether you've done it intentionally or not) and are annoyed by it. Please date it appropriately. Maybe even 2021-2022.

in the future, there will be a chip that links into your brain, and will port the image you see with your eyes, to data storage. Basically think of all the things your phone can do but its in a chip directly communicating with your brain. Able to communicate with people without saying a word, just think and send, instantaneous communication. But so will will come all the drawbacks of technology and social media. Perhaps the worst part of it all is you can't unplug.

I think the time Google Glass was released was the wrong one. At that time there were major data protection discussions worldwide and AR (Augmented Reality) is still an uncontrolled problem for the personal rights of all people.
If Google manages to tackle this problem through appropriate regulation and thus convey security to the majority of the population, then this technology will establish itself very quickly.
Google should take an example from technologies like nuclear energy or even just electricity. Both had great initial difficulties but ultimately prevailed.

I recently picked up a chromebook and it was my first time getting one. I got it so I could experiment with it and see the use cases for it considering it's excellent price options. What I realized was that it makes for an excellent companion device to my Google Pixel phone and I'm assuming Google Glass will do just that as well. I really want to pick one up so I could experiment with it.
