I knew someone who was an actor and he wanted us to watch everything he was in so we could see how good his performance was regardless if we were entertained or not, most of his roles were the independent dramatic roles only cinephiles would love, my sister just got angry at him in the end and said "You may be proud of your work but I am bored and uninterested". It is so true about actors, many don't realise that most audiences just want to be entertained and aren't really bothered by the actors ability to act or if they might win a Oscar.
Thanks for speaking about your shitty family. If someone worked in a box factory and showed me all the intricacies of how their made, I think I would at least try to be curious and not say, f**** boxes man.
In 5 mins I learned a lot about acting and successful actors. A lot if wisdom and insight. Simply put both are great however Colin is definitely a well spoken wise and smart person. I have no idea why I'm surprised about this. Hugh is just great, charismatic and funny. Legend.
Ive seen several of these actor on actor interviews, and hands down, Colin Farrell has been the best guest so far. This clip right here shows a real human being, honest and poignant, a person you already respect because we KNOW this guy could be a big star if he wanted to. This question has already been answered if we just take a look at his his career, even is he said he would go either way.
I dont know if they’d ever been in other films together or not, but The Gentleman (2020) by Guy Ritchie is a must watch!!! I watched it over and over on Netflix and I LOVE it! Also, they both represent a generation of actors and dare i say it even the British film industries these days don’t make actors like that any more. I miss the Golden Ages of the British films.
I love Hugh, he’s well aware of the falseness and pretence of the acting world, and that most do it for money as we all do work for, and loved the comment he made about actors are in danger of “disappearing up their own arses” 😂 He’s the Ricky Gervais of actors
I agree. I was just thinking of this. There's something amazing and charming about being that actor where people are like "hey I've seen him/her before! I can't remember what but they were good!" than being someone who's in a big franchise or a summer blockbuster. Like a Steve Buscemi or Philip Seymour Hoffman. They are true chameleons due to the fact that they pop up in these films here and there as supporting or minor characters but they're all completely different people. I just think of it as "hey I can be a Tom Cruise or I can be a Philip Seymore Hoffman and appear in a Mission Impossible movie as the villian but still carry all these pop-in rolls in movies like Boogie Nights and Almost Famous". I think there's something cool about being lesser-known, more underground to where people can pick you out than always being in the spotlight 25/8. Like Denzel Washington said, "as an actor your brand is being good, not being known." And sometimes actors get the best of both worlds where they're lesser-know and underground for the longest time but then get there big break in an iconic role and become an a-lister. Or even the opposite like these two from being extremely popular to being more in the shadows. Its not about being that actor that's "wow he used to be in everything, really popular and now he's like never seen" or being "washed-up". There's nothing wrong with that. Fame doesn't last forever. At some point people's careers die down some and there's no problem with that.
Wow. Never been a huge fan of Colin, & never seen him outside of him being in work mode- Flabbergasted that he’s so eloquently spoken & composes himself as well as he does. Huge admiration for how he portrayed himself here.

Colin Farrell is probably the most articulate actor that I've ever listened to. For such a traditionally handsome guy he seems genuinely intelligent which is a rare quality these days. Maybe it's his European up-bringing. And unlike other actors who try to create a veneer of intelligence and use "big" words to say something that (if you listen closely) amounts to utter bullshit what he's saying actually has a lot of substance to it.

@@rumblefish9The fact that you repeatedly said this under each and every comment shows why you failed to understand Colin and saw that he 'proved Hugh's point'
In Bruges is sublime. Just a masterpiece.....I'm gonna watch it again now.
1:14 Hugh: "Someone sent me some links for this program"
.
Colin: *pretending to spray himself* "tssssssssssssss" 😆
.
For those wondering, Irish lads wear a cheap spray deodorant called "Lynx". Know your audience Colin, know your audience.
*British
It’s not just Ireland that’s unlucky enough to have that canned shite on the shelves of its Tescos lol
@@sam_the_man We here in America have a pretty similar thing, but it's AXE Body Spray, sometimes Old Spice. Its not so much a bad reputation because of guys spraying their junk with it(it might, I've never asked a woman about it, I imagine they would know better. I could ask a gay guy but Im gonna stereotype and assume that they would know better than to use it). It has more a rep that teenage boys in Middle School (Grade 6-8, Age 12+) or Freshmen in High School using SO MUCH under their arms/chest/neck that you can smell it a mile away.
BoppoB YES, Axe and Lynx are the same brand, just marketed under different names in different countries. In the US it’s Axe, in the UK it’s Lynx. That’s why I say it’s not just an exclusively Irish thing. We have it also in England, Scotland, and Wales too! It’s the standard box set Christmas gift every male gets amongst his Christmas presents every year, yet only the teenagers tend to wear.
I noted that and laughed
I caught that too...we have Lynx in Australia too. 🤢
Its 2020 and these two Gentlemen just gave us two great performances
I just love the way Colin says "What about you?" 3:58 its like he just remembered he's talking with another person
I can't describe how much I enjoyed this little snippet.. a fine & intellectual interview between two very likeable, charismatic actors
That Lynx joke by Colin is top quality
Colin is so articulate and calm - also sounds so level-headed and he’s gotten more of an American intonation now than when he started . They’re both great - love these two 💖💖💖
The lobster is a great little movie. He’s excellent in it.
Crazy but great
It was shite, I thought.
@@Nautilus1972 that's ok, some people understand it's themes, metaphors and nuances... others like yourself are probably best sticking to easy-to-understand super hero movies.
One of my all time favorites
@@saelaird Chief, I love the Lobster and the majority of Yorgos Lanthimos' work, but this is an incredibly pretentious comment. No movie is flawless, and it's valid for The Lobster not to vibe with people. Putting down fun, easy to watch movies like superhero movies just to seem smart is weaksauce imo
Man, I had no idea that these guys gonna work together in The Gentlemen
They are both amazing in it... scene stealers.
both so well spoken!!
Smart men
Ohh cool this before they were both in the movie ‘The Gentlemen’
One of the worst flops ever..
@@zafmo9829 hahahahaha on what standard my dude? The film made a 115 million on 22 million dollar budget. I know it didn’t do too well with critics but audiences seem to like it enough.

_These guys!_ Especially Colin. 👌
I still can't get over his as Penguin. Just so transformative. One of those Hollywood things where it just works amazingly!
Dunno if you saw this or not, awesome (very short) on his Penguin transformation: th-cam.com/users/shortsWx_xQMJEdLA?feature=share
Looking forward to his HBO Penguin series!
The title of this video is so lame and cheapens how interesting this discussion actually was.
K Lu ik im late but sigh, it’s what captures the people’s attention, their discussion was so deep and took me to the real realm of the acting life
I knew someone who was an actor and he wanted us to watch everything he was in so we could see how good his performance was regardless if we were entertained or not, most of his roles were the independent dramatic roles only cinephiles would love, my sister just got angry at him in the end and said "You may be proud of your work but I am bored and uninterested".
Nothing worse than a bad actor. Cringeworthy.
This is the best one by far! And it's because we here have two of the absolute best in the business -and most genuin as well ;)
People who can be authentic, can be authentic even when they're playing a role. It's what makes them excellent actors.
Wow, I love Collin Ferrell but this made me respect him even more.
I am mind blown by their openness. It's beautiful to watch man. It is beautiful to be open, humble and honest
What a good interview.
That's a lot of words just to say "once I'm set for life financially, I like to do what I want".
Anyone notice when Hugh said “links” Colin started miming spraying himself with deodorant? You can take the boy out of Dublin, as they say! 😜
I immediately noticed it and chuckled, remembering Alan Partridge's "Lynx! Well smelt! Java! Voodoo!" :p :p
@A S Maybe he uses a 'roll on'.
Or has an underling deodorize him.
I noticed it but couldn’t understand the context.
Pooja Sharma lynx is a deodorant spray in the uk
Colin is very self-aware and knows the life he's in. I appreciate this.
That Lynx joke went straight over Hugh’s head
They call it Axe in America, I believe. Maybe it's branded differently in the UK as well?
@@Md2802 nah, both Farrell and Grant are from the British Isles and it’s definitely called Lynx. Grant is probably more of a Pour Homme fella anyway
@@nickdonaghy6360 Pour Homme yes 🤣
Why is everyone saying that collin is underrated, he seems pretty rated to me
People use 'underrated' and 'overlooked' interchangeablely. He's just not talked about as much.
I've never really cared for his acting. He always seemed forced by media as the next big actor. He underwhelmed.
He did some shitty movies and has been off radar lately
I dont know if they’d ever been in other films together or not, but The Gentleman (2020) by Guy Ritchie is a must watch!!! I watched it over and over on Netflix and I LOVE it!
Also, they both represent a generation of actors and dare i say it even the British film industries these days don’t make actors like that any more. I miss the Golden Ages of the British films.
It's called The Gentlemen and it's from 2019 and yes it's absolutely fantastic and hilarious
Colin is making me get my dictionary out
"It can become a fraction masturbatory" lol
I love Hugh, he’s well aware of the falseness and pretence of the acting world, and that most do it for money as we all do work for, and loved the comment he made about actors are in danger of “disappearing up their own arses” 😂
He’s the Ricky Gervais of actors
Kristel that would be great too see, Ricky and Hugh having a chat!
Hugh is amazing! His bittersweet humor makes him great. And I think he's a fantastic actor!!
Colin Farrell is incredibly articulate. Never would have thought it. Great actor all the same
Everything he was in always captivated me and I was young. Great actor.
Two very intelligent and humble dudes. Best interview I have had the pleasure to view in years.
Hugh Grant has an incredible way of expressing his veiws. He's a genius
Colin Farrell! Dude, the vocabulary on this man is delightful, it's so refreshing watching a celebrity talk like a scholar.
Colin is such a great actor. I LOVE the project he chooses.
Pre social media, pre 2010s paparazzi was insane. The magazines and all that. The stories, the papers. It was all SO mad.
And now with social media, its not mad anymore, just plain stupid
"I feel like I should cross my legs tighter." Farrell is hilarious--outstanding actor and seems genuinely interesting.
Couple of gents right there. It's always interesting to see a discussion like this where both actors are being open and genuine.
As a musician I totally get this. It’s a balance. Money. Art
Amazing interview and a surprisingly deep insight into those brilliant actors' mentality.
I could listen to these two talk for years
Wow. Never been a huge fan of Colin, & never seen him outside of him being in work mode- Flabbergasted that he’s so eloquently spoken & composes himself as well as he does. Huge admiration for how he portrayed himself here.
If you haven’t seen Woody Allen’s “Cassandra’s Dream” Colin Farrell is very good in this . Just like “In Bruges”
I’ve met ewan mcgregor and I briefly spoke to him about how I am glad he started to work again with Danny Boyle
Although I was so star struck I forgot to mention Cassandras dream beginners and the fill ewan directed 😭
Had no idea Colin was so deep... Guess it's the relaxing nature of this show. Great pair of actors, wish both the best in their careers and in their lives. They have both entertained me, so I think they are both nice people.
His Irish upbringing. He was educated at one of the best private schools in Ireland Castleknock College. Colin’s a posh boy.
The surprise of so many people about Collins eloquence shows what a great actor he is
Collin Farrell is my everlasting crush!!!!!

Excellent back and forth.
Articulate and honest discussions create so much more interest and so much easier to appreciate the depth of some actors.
Colin has been one of my favourite actors ever since I first saw him.
SWAT, Daredevil, Total Recall and of course In Bruge are all great movies he's done.
I think Colin is not underrated, so much as misunderstood.
Also, great 'interview. I really like this setting/format, I find the actors seem more relaxed & it's easier for them to actually converse. 👌
Colin Farrell is absolutely brilliant. The man doesn’t miss
the young girl in my soul is still so sweet on Colin Farrel and his old "bad boy" image 😈
I think Colon always has that in him, a streak of that "bad boy" attitude. That just makes him so attractive in my eyes
Farrell made In Brugess, he need never make another movie again
Wow, I didn't expect Colin Farrell to be so well-spoken...I haven't kept up with his films and sort of just forgot about him but it seems like he has evolved and matured a lot since his peak 10yrs ago. Good for him. And Hugh Grant has also changed a lot and seems far more open and honest and self-aware now too. Good on them both!
Collin is no joke... A tremendous actor!!!
Both Colin and Hugh are wonderfully intelligent when they are taking about their career.
I enjoyed his total recall, ill watch like once a year,, its fun, well paced and that universe was the most realistic future iv seen
Hey There I like Colin and love Cranston but that movies god awful.
@@derekazyan9942 I actually think cranton is cheesy in it lol. Something about the movie I dont know , its just an easy watch, I like theaesthetics of the world, I dont really compare it to the original though. One of those movies you have to rewatch after a few years.
Sucked ass
@Wilhelm Otto Dusseldorf that was also a future that seemed really probable in terms of the technology/tone/culture. I loved that movie, kinda a masterpiece to me, crazy how it bombed. I really enjoyed it and the dynamic of the characters, even the relationship with his fake AI girlfriend was pretty captivating for me.And I actually felt bad when her device was destroyed.
You’re both amazing and so eloquent!!
Colin is way different than l thought he would be, that Irish accent is nice to listen to. Nice guy.
This is more of a mid Atlantic accent that Colin has. Well pronounced is not how we do it in Ireland..
