- Born in the late 1950s, the MiG-21 still exists and becomes the iconic fighter of the supersonic age. One of the features of this design was a tubular fuselage with the shock cone and front air intake did not see widespread use outside the USSR and ultimately proved to have limited development potential, mainly due to the small available space for the radar.

A very informative video ! Still I think the shock cones look much cooler than the more modern designs
It is the simplest way to get air without disturbing the airflow. When designs got more sophisticated so did the air intakes.
Good insight, this might explain why the J-8 derived from mig 21 was later modified to have side intakes.
