love it when people ask 'who's your favorite singer? and i say John Prine and they say 'John who" and i just think to myself my God what you've missed for the last 40 yrs.
God bless John Prine, he could have easily quit sharing his music with people after his esophageal cancer. Instead, he's still out there playing his music and making people smile. Whistle and Fish, what a great song by a great Man. Thanks for not quitting on me John, you make me smile daily!
My nephew just went to join John after he lost his contest to esophageal cancer. He might give John a run for his money in that drinking contest. RIP Mike and John.
This song describes every crap job I had as a kid growing up in Chicago: "Made me scrub a parking lot down on my knees/Then I got fired for being scared of bees/And they only paid me 50 cents an hour." The dark and uncommented-upon side of the "American work ethic." Love you like a brother, John Prine.
Just lost my dad to esophageal cancer. He was ALWAYS fishin' and whistlin'! Thank God John survived his bout and left this for me to help remember our great times. As always, this song's for you, dad (presses replay)
My mom and dad raised me on John Prine, he is truly one of the best artists I've ever heard in all my life, his songs invoke such emotion and his lyrics have such deep meaning.
I would luv to go whistlng and fishing with John Prine....we can forgive each other till we both turn blue. John Prine is awesome, and shared some very wonderful words of comic wisdom with us throughout the years, and put it all to good music too! Let's join him in the evan.
been a huge Prine fan for 40 yrs ,have seen him more times than I can count ,own all of his cds, and I still grin my ass of when I hear the first couple notes of this song even thou I've heard it a million times
life is good with prine in it .... i have been a fan for 35 years ..... saven some cash for a trip to see him play again way better then goin down south
Been playing fish and whistle on my own guitar for many years. Saw him twice in concert. Steve Goodman opened for one of the shows way back when. One of my all time favourites.
Hadn't heard him for yrs, one night the song popped into my melon at 1am, kept me awake all night, so grabbed my mobile, got Google and pumped it out. Great.
I’ve just found this artist and am crazy about this song. His voice I love it. So rich and kind and lovely. I’m trying to learn it and play it on my guitar but I’m getting tong twisted on the chorus. 💐💗🎵😀
Again I say John should be Poet Laureate of the U.S. Don't know another person who could rhym "onomotopae(s). I love Steel Dan and can't tell which song I like the best, and John Prine is the same way. I hear one song and I think "that's it", then the next one "oh, I forgot about that one".
WOW. John Prine was always on the periphery of my musical interests for some reason(I'm 51),but I just now "got him". Could it have been the record company "dudes" in retrospect ???? I think the mark of a great song is one that is simple but says what it wants to without a lot of fluff or "production". John makes many great songs. 'Course, what do I know,I'm crazy as a loon...(where's my Lithium and cigarettes...)
I`am a huge Chris Knight fan and thats how I found out about John Prine . He`s pretty awesome, I think I`ll have to buy a Prine CD....What would be a good first Prine CD? anybody?
I love to listen to John Prine. He is a living treasure.I believe this old Martin guitar has been with him for a while.Does anyone know if it is a D-28 or D-18? I believe he uses Dean Markley pickups but I may be wrong.
I've played this song for many years but never knew why I couldn't quite get it to sound at least similar to John Prine. After seeing him play it live I finally knew why. He plays it with a capo on the 7th fret! It's the only acoustic song I know with the capo that high. I thought Never Going Back Again by Fleetwood Mac had the highest capo placement at the 6th fret. Nope. Prine wins that one! It's the only way to play the same fingerstyle patterns as he does. If you try it anywhere else on the neck you have to use a different fingerstyle pattern that doesn't quite sound right.
can somone tell the name of a song, somthing about blow up the tv throw away the paper, move to the country and eat a bunch of peaches? it been driving me nuts,i know its john prine
My ex ole' lady told me that she took off on the guy she was living with, with another guy, and they ran into John and a bunch he was playing with; and they followed john around and he invited them to come up and do some singing and playing with him !! Hmmm, LOL !!!
I hope he finally catches that Irish fish in heaven.
Tim Kaufmann and he’ll pull a pearl out of its mouth when he takes out the hook.
Like in Ireland, he probably won't, but he'll keep trying and having a blessed fun time doing it !

A toast to a true legend- I know you're whistlin and fishin in heaven.

John, could have done stand-up with his stories.
I think he is simply one of the best singer-songwriters of all time. There's nobody else like him.

There are just so many meanings you can take from this song. It’s really beautiful. His songs are so universal and accessible.

The first John Prine album would be an excellent start. It is entitled "John Prine". Then get another of more recent vintage.

Bruised Orange is an excellent album (cd?). It contains this wonderful song, impeccably sung.
The John Prine anthology great days. I got a single cd The Best of John Prime, but it didn't have a lot of the songs I liked.
what a way to live
