  • I picked up a husqvarna 480cd, lets find out if it's s runner or just a relic.
    Also I figured out that the crazy little l77 pipe will bolt up to it.
    thanks for watching!!

    Love this video.... and the L77 uses the same top end as that 480cd btw. Might have to get mine out and build a pile :) Great collection you are building :) The big "difference" is top end obviously but they wanted to separate the gasoline from the heat of the cases. For me....I run my L77 and never had an issue , really enjoy them :) With that big heavy flywheel, it sounds like an old 60's era dirt bike :)

    it is a 380cd - just checked mine and the handle bolts have the same rubber mounts and it has the same black rear handle. my 480 has no base gasket, a little bit off the piston skirt on the intake side, bigger lower transfers, larger exhaust port and opened up muffler. First time I have modded a cylinder and am well pleased. So much torque! Would love to see the tinman do one of these properly!

    I have run my 480CD for over fifteen years, it was used when I purchased it back in 2008. They are excellent, powerful saws all round, and their only weak point is the case around the front rubber mounts are prone to cracking. Mine is still going strong after 40+ years and its had almost nothing done to it, other than the usual bar and chain replacements.. I am in the UK and its a rare saw on this side of the pond too...

    I recently got a 480 given to me with abunch of 2100 parts. Cleaned it up and replaced the fuel line and she runs great. Was pretty rough looking but cleaned up pretty nicely.

    my first wood boss in 1983 had a 480. it would idle kinda funny once in a while and spit and puke and then it would run backwards, the chain would actually be spinning backwards. never seen that since then.

    Heard you mention You have an L77 Husky. I used to cut firewood in the 80's and owned 5 of them. I kept one for posterity and it hadn't run for 20+ years. I just recently got it together and it runs as good as when it cut for me back then. It stumped me for years until I found a piece of gasket on the intake manifold. Good channel to learn from.

    Every carb I rebuild goes into the ultrasonic regardless of how clean or dirty it looks. That way all the internal passages get cleaned out. That thing sounds great with the pipe! Should definitely be an improvement over the stock muffler.

    • @donmayberryjrsOPE
      @donmayberryjrsOPE ปีที่แล้ว

      How long in the ultrasonic cleaner? What temperature? Thanks!

    • @eurokid83
      @eurokid83 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@donmayberryjrsOPE I like to run mine at 50C/122F and ten to fifteen minutes for carbs. I use 70% water 30% simple green. I found that ratio works good and won’t tarnish non ferrous metals as long as you keep cleaning time to 10-15 minutes. If you forget to take parts out and they sit for hours you will get some tarnishing/discoloration.

    Yo tinman, 480cd is the first saw I ported, been cutting with it for the first time today - loving it, would never have done it without you, cheers. However the 480cd has a metal handle, I have a 380 that has a plastic bit on the handle like yours but could even be a 180 or 280.

    Sometimes you actually have to lean out a saw after a muffler mod. The change could permit a huge difference in airflow through the engine, which will give you a much larger signal at the carburetor and a resultant increase in fuel flow. I had a couple of Stihl's that did this, the stock mufflers were so restrictive that after the mods they required a full turn leaner on the high side needles.
    Looking forward to seeing the 480 in some wood, nice running saw so far.

  • @tomdenniston5933
    @tomdenniston5933 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    My first husqvarna in that class was a 185CD, bought new. It failed somehow and it has been so long since I don't remember. Think it must have had an air leak and went lean. Loved it while it lasted. Rear handle and recoil cover look identical to yours. Got me goin' down memory lane.

    Funny this video just came up because I was just asking my 69 year old boss what saws he owns while coming home from work. . He only has two and one of them is an L77 he’s had for years.
    I’ve seen quite a few in my area and old logging pictures from here often show the L65 or L77.
    Quite the old war horse those ones.

    A pipe that that has some back pressure and reduces reversion would be cool. Have you ever paid attention to louvered strait thru car mufflers. The louvered vent holes faced away from exhaust port to prevent reversion, but also increases back pressure slightly. Keith S.
