The thing is even if Aemond wanted to kill his brother, he wouldn’t be stupid enough to deprive his side of yet another dragon and rider when they’re already severely lacking and in the middle of a dragon conflict.
Sunfyre is the only adult dragon on his side that has a rider willing to help him in the sky, Tessarion is a young dragon akin to Moondancer. So, it makes NO sense for Aemond to outright attack Aegon in the middle of a dragon fight, especially when the dragon they’re fighting is capable of killing Vhagar.
This makes Aemond look so dumb it’s ridiculous, Vhagar cannot win this war alone no matter how big she is, she needs an ally in the sky who can watch her back and is capable of actually killing other larger dragons while her and Aemond take on Caraxes.

My point exactly. The blacks already have more dragons than the greens. Its stupid for Aemond to take Aegon and sunfyre out. They still need to kill daemon as well, who is probably a better dragon rider. Rhaenyra has a large dragon as well. Not to mention the large unclaimed dragons on dragonstone.

The only way I was thinking of them writing it to make sense if they make Aemond so cocky and arrogant that he thinks he can win on his own. He already thinks he would do a better job as King than Aegon. Looking forward to show watchers slowly realizing things were better with Aegon as King of all people. At least he doesn’t murder and betray his family members and cares for the smallfolk.

At this point none of them are rational. And believe it or not Aemond after the brothel humiliation is willing to take out aegon. 1) he thinks he all that with vaghar and 2) he does not beleive that Sunfyre and Aegon could make that much of a difference because aegon is rash, inexperienced and kind of idiotic. Also I want to point out that I don't mind the liberties taken by the show because all the events that took place were told and transmitted, not actual testimonies from characters who has been there.

4:19 Aegon is also a Dragonrider, something the Green's desperately need. He's useless because the show's writers want him to be useless. At the very least he and the dragon would be needed to defend King's Landing, and you'd think somebody on the council would be smart enough to point that out to him if he's feeling useless sitting around, or you can go Alicent style and humiliate your kid whatever. 😂 6:57 I think this too, just because the actor did an amazing job. What I find funny is the show writers clearly want to me hate all the Green's, they've made all of them scum of the earth, but they're so stupid and messed up that by comparison the Black-side is boring to watch. 🤣

They simply just take everything good green have and give to black. They gave Sunfyre title to Syrax. They gave Aegon and Aemond relationship to Viserys and Daemon. They gave Aegon's bond with Sunfyre to Daemon. They gonna give Aegon's motivation (protecting his family) to Daemon. They took the love that smallfolk hold for Haelena and Alicent and gave it to Rhaenyra.

Interesting observation. Yeah, the writing is very biased in House of the Dragon. They whitewash Rhaenyra and the Black Faction, while further villainizing the characters of the Green Faction. It's actually very frustrating. 😤

    • @maya-nw9dw
      @maya-nw9dw 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@@thecriticalmaester9702 One thing that I don't know if they do on purpose or not is that normal viewers may think that Rhaenyra is a smart girlboss and Aegon is a stupid losser but it's only people who pay attention to the show can see that it's actually the opposite. It's remind me of Jaime and Cersei. Cersei though that she was smart but she was actually stupid meanwhile Jaime though that he's dumb but he was actually very smart.
Aegon's plans were actually even smarter than Otto at some point. But the problem is that people think that he's dumb so no one listens.
On the other hand the show wants to show people don't care what Rhaenyra think because she's a woman but it's actually because she's stupid.
Aegon is a better rulers than both Rhaenyra and Aemond.
Let's see, Aegon was right about:
      1. Considering smallfolks
      2. Securing Harrenhal before Daemon builds an army
      3. Securing Grover Tully's support after Lucerys' death
      4. Burning Gullet's blocade sooner
      5. Wanting a dragon to accompany Criston and Gwayne (they could've killed Moondancer and captured Baela)
Meanwhile Rhaenyra just act stupid. Like she just go to kl as if it's a hotel or something or thinking she can fight Aemond. And from what we saw and the leaks, Aemond is nothing but a sadistic tyrant.
The thing that make Aegon stand out is his hunger for love. He wants love and he also have a lot of love in himself. That's why he can be a good king. It's his motivation. Rhaenyra on the other hand have no motivation and is a passive character. And Aemond is the only one who think he should be king, no one else think that about him.

In the book alicent was a good mom, ageon loved his brothers, and aemond only kin-slayed in a blind rage; all things they changed to make the greens look worse. On the other hand the most villainous member of team black , Daemon, is actively being humanized and it’s showing how he regrets blood and cheese. Rhyaenera is also being white-washed with her motivations not being out of a want for power but to unite the realm against the others.

I didn’t like that they are implying and hinting Aemond will betray his brother.
I didn’t mind them making him a bullied kid with mommy issues but I do mind that they are making him out to be a brother slayer. I have mixed feelings about his accident with Luke. I wouldn’t have minded him being villainous and he is villainous in the books and murdered Luke in cold blood because to him Luke was not family just as he wasn’t family to Luke.
However, he is not kinslayer in the sense that he’d murder or allow harm to come to his own faction the Greens. He is not the kind of kinslayer to murder his brother to become King or look the other way as harm comes to his brother’s way or allow harm to comes his way.
It’s like they’re making the Blacks to be more family oriented versus duty and while the Greens are more duty oriented they aren’t so closed off as a family. Alicent wasn’t as neglectful as a mother the show implies and while the brothers didn’t get along all the time to say the least Aemond and Aegon in the end had each other’s back because they were at war. It also by making this happen makes Aemond more dumb less calculating like they did with Alicent and Rhaenyra. Vhagar is the strongest dragon but against everyone else she can’t stand by herself. The Greens need all the dragons they can get and by crippling them on purpose Aemond is weakening his family
Hated that change. I am also happy about Rhaenys death. She murdered many small folk that day who were innocent and only came because they are told too.
That’s why war amongst the Targaryens is so bad because in the end the realm and the commoners suffer more so than anyone else.
Otto himself was saying open the doors to let the small folk out rather than trap Rhaenys because the debris was harming and killing the innocent people.
I’m curious to see if they will begin to show the Blacks strongest ally, the Velaryons specifically Corlys turn on them slowly because of Rhaenys’s death.

I do want to point out that what I am about to say is directly from what is given to us from the show and I do believe the show manufactured this bad elements to hurt the greens sides, but there are couple of things I would disagree with your statement.
      1. Aegon was trying to save his own skin and perhaps his mother with the allegation being shifted onto him, against his will.
      2. Aegon does respect Aemond as a tool when he gets older, due to his competence and Vhagar. He literally says he is as loyal as a 'hound'. Even earlier he defends bullying him and calls him a twat, when they were younger.
      3. Aemond also had Aegons back in the dinner scene, so that was a more tit for tat thing.
      4. If you bullied your brother when he was younger, he looses an eye to the bullies you helped prop up to torment him, you pressure him into loosing his virginity at a brothel at the age of 13 and then after gaining the most powerful dragon in the world and he becomes a menace, clearly despises you for not being worthy of your inheritance and then you decide to mock him in a vulnerable position in the brothel, no shit he would try to find an opening to kill you.
      5. Lastly, Aegon's appraisal of Aemond killing Lucerys or building him a statue was cut.

So i infered how he emerged from the battle of rooks rest unharmed as just a conveniant coincidence. Although it wasn't until he engaged maely's that all 3 dragons plummeted. The show really likes to push a "throne lust" on characters that didn't really have that in the book. Aemond was not shown in the book as jealous and wanting the throne, nor did he harm his brother in any attempt to claim it either. Daemon has also been given a weird journey of jealousy for the throne while he is off wasting time at Harrenhal and trying to claim the Riverlands in his own name. He was always supportive of Viserys and Rhaenyra in season one, but season two has given him Scar's personality instead. Why? It isn't an addition or improvement. Not every Rogue Prince wants to rule the kingdom, and I don't believe either of these second sons truly wanted to rule the Seven Kingdoms. Both were much happier flying off on their dragons and fighting for their king instead. Daemon maybe BELIEVES he wants to be king, but I don't think he'd be so stupid as to openly commit treason in quest to do so.
The show's changes are not improvements to me. Martin usually proves to be a better writer than the show writers. I wish they'd just follow the book as closely as possible. A lot of the big events are losing spectacle and power when they rewrite them. Without the forced "choice" in Blood and Cheese, how does Helaena find the path to her end? It no longer makes sense. Fleshing out what is already there (as they've done with Aegon) is great. Changing it up entirely is a misstep. "Historical documents written by unreliable narrators" or "Propaganda" isn't a worthy excuse for these changes to the story and characters.

Speaking of S02E05, it was almost unbearable to watch by the end.
I couldn't not believe that in just episode we had:
    1) a witch scolding a takes-no-bs King Daemon who's happy to beat any accuser, no matter the gender
    2) a granddaughter moralizing an extremely proud Lord Colrys
    3) Alicent mocking Cole
    4) something similar with Rhaenyra, but I don't remember which man she was talking down to
This series has had "men want war and wise women must guide them" motto all along, but suddenly concentration of that stuff went up by 200% and almost all male characters turned reactive/passive instead of proactive.
The only male character still being decisive and not listening to women is... "the villain" Aemond.

Fighting a war because your dad said you should be queen and because your great great grandpa had a dream, therefore your burning and killing of innocents in the war will be justified? I don't think that the main takeaway from Fire and Blood should be "war is justified if you have divine right and are motivated by a prophetic dream." It's that neither side is justified in enacting this war on the realm and killing thousands, so nobody was on the right side of this conflict.

I find Aegon both sympathetic and pitiful, and given the change in Alicent's characterization, it doesn't surprise me that that of those she raised would be different as well. Personally, I prefer this version of Aemond. He is loyal to Aegon, but only because they're family. They are not close. So I took his entrance into the battle as "He might as well be useful and keep her still. He'll live.". More indifference than any wish to actually end his brother.
Also, I don't think the showrunner's realize what they did with Alicent. By making her that way towards her own children consistently, she's an example of damaged women raising damaged children, so it has further tarnished her in comparison to her book counterpart. She's so bad at genuinely showing affection or giving direction to her sons than one seeks it out in a prostitute and the other doesn't know how to extend it to his own wife after they both lost their son. So, her being the wholesome and constructive influence on them, might have made them the men she laments that they aren't.

I'm team black all day every day, but I HATE the way the show has portrayed Alicent- ie their reluctance to portray her as anything other than a victim, and her tendency to contradict herself from episode to episode. As I said I'm team black, but I expected to at least respect Alicent (as I did in the books despite detesting her) because she was well written. But I can't even do that because she's a sad joke of her book counterpart. It's a shame. On another note, my favorite part of the episode was the depiction of the dragon bonds. Rhaenys and Meleys is probably the best/strongest I've seen thus far, but Aegon and Sunfyre was very touching as well. I could've gone for more scenes of those two (maybe he grieves the loss of his son/state of his life with Sunfyre since he had no one else) than scenes of Alicent and Criston. Great video.

As a big aemond fan, I wish he had been kept more gray as opposed to the cartoon stock-villain he became in this season. I think he works as a somewhat-sympathetic, humanized gray character. It's more GRRM and more interesting to make the character deep and complex.
He says he feels remorse and shows horror at ... and I think I wish they had kept that side of him, while also showing a little inner darkness.
But it might come back to the writes being biased towards the Blacks. They made them a lot less sympathetic, likeable, and evil ... including Aemond.

I totally respect your opinion here, and thanks for sharing. I think the important thing to remember about the book is that its meant to be an in world history book written some time after the Dance, and the only two sources available for the dance are a Court Jester and a Septon. Neither were instrumental to the Dance and had serious knowledge with characters intentions and mindsets. The showrunners have said this and have gone on to reiterate that their version of the story cant be considered the absolute truth, because no one knows the absolute truth. As far as Aemond, the book never even states his appearance apart from his hair color and lost eye, much less his intentions and ambitions. I like the tragedy of him being bullied so much as a child that his adult self is a character he puts on to hide his pain. He also is meant to be a parallel to Daemon and Aegon to Viserys, but without any true love like the latter had.

Yes but the court jester was loyal to Rhaenyra and was team black since day one. And yet he has described rhaenyra to do certain acts that were cut out of the show in favour of making Rhaenyra a saint. You could argue that the show is just telling us that the Jester's part wasn't true but then you realise the show adapts all the negative things the Jester said about the green. The show is biased, the writers have even admitted it.

I'm sorry but this argument is disingenuous, especially since the showrunners have taken cues from Mushroom's account - who is the least reliable of all the sources(there are more than two - Munkun and Orwyle for instance). If none of the accounts are reliable, I can say that Rhaenyra was never Viserys' heir and she is in fact the one who threatened Aegon's ascension. See how that works ? I'm seeing the constant use of this "unreliable narrator" argument to defend the terrible writing in the TV show. Rhaenys' awful scene last season is an example of this. Alicent & Criston Cole crowns Aegon II because they feared for their lives...this is a much better motive than "I misunderstood a prophecy one night". Don't use F&B's ambiguity to create actions and motives that don't make sense. All in all, the show's writing is still vastly inferior to the source material.

Rhaenys speech stating that the Black council should follow Rhaenyra’s leadership because she wears Jahaerys’ crown is BS. It is the same thing as what Tywin pointed out: “Any[one] who says I am the king is no true king.” Jahaerys was successful not because he wore his golden crown but because of his hard work.

It's an in-universe history book of sorts authored by Archmaester Gyldayn (of Old Town. hint hint: Hightower territory) taken from the accounts of MULTIPLE UNRELIABLE SOURCES with reason to skew events in their own favor. The book tells the reader this over and over. To drive the point home, it even gives multiple versions of some of the events. The show, on the other hand, is us watching the events "actually" unfold, so to speak.

If ever there was a guy who needed to be confronted with the ramifications of his past actions ... my only concern is that the showrunners may end up doing nothing with it - as in, they'll spend much of the season having him be confronted with visions of his past, and he'll _appear_ to be learning/growing/changing because of it, yet he'll end the season as pretty much the exact same character as he started (in other words, a mini show-Jaime arc) - I hope this doesn't happen, but I think it's reasonably likely, sadly.

They made a whole plan, sunfyre grapples meyles so she can’t run away, then Vhegar comes and they 2v1 meyles. If she saw two dragon she’d run away unlike the show where she stupidly ends herself for nothing.
You make it seem like that never happened and Aemond just uses him for bait. Don’t lie to people.

@@VeniVidiVici100 I just read the chapter to make sure I wasn't losing it. That plan you just described is nowhere in the text. All that's written is that a trap was set for Rhaenys and once she arrived, Aegon and Aemond appeared to attack Rhaenys. None of this "she'd run away if she saw two dragons" was in the book. Why are *you* lying to people?
Sure, using Aegon as bait isn't written in the book either but one can assume that they were using themselves as bait to lure out a dragonrider. Getting Aegon, the king himself, to do it is essentially using him as bait. Last thing we know about the battle is that Vhagar crashed into both Meleys and Sunfyre, taking them both out. One can also assume here that Aemond may have taken out Sunfyre intentionally, especially since the moment he puts Aegon's crown on his own head, he says: "It looks better on me than it ever did on him."
Also, "ends herself for nothing" in the show? She got Vhagar to crash into their own army. As far as she could tell, she was winning. She went back to confirm Vhagar's end or finish the job. Vhagar just got the jump on her in the end.

I think it's important to note that Fire and Blood was written from the perspective of Green sympathizers (save for Mushroom), who would want the Green's to be painted in a positive light in the annals of history. I think it makes much more sense the way Aemond is portrayed in the show, remember what he says towards the end/middle of S1, something like "it is I, the younger brother, who trains with a sword, studies history and strategy, it is I who rides the largest dragon in the world, it is I who should be..."
Aemond knows his brother is an incompetent buffoon. He knows he would make the better, more decisive and ambitious ruler.

Stop saying this useless argument. We're not in real history where we try to find if what an ancient author wrote had his bias but a fiction universe where the author can write what he wants. In reality Martin wrote what he wanted and the way the Dance happened. Some passages are vague but in the end, we understand what happened

Tell us you dont read and follow the actual story without telling us. Per JRR.....the known history was based on the retwlling ovmf events from the maesters. They could have/did lie and twist the actual events.

    • @thecriticalmaester9702
      @thecriticalmaester9702  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +20

Fascinating how the maesters only seem to have _"twisted the events"_ when the Black characters are recorded to have done something villainous, but when the Green characters have done villainous things the maesters were accurate and maybe not honest enough (since the show makes the event ten-times worse in such cases). 🤔
Of course, the maesters might've had their biases - I'm not saying that they didn't - but it's not possible that they would've gotten every detail wrong, especially things that the characters did in public. Things such as important battles, character's public personalities and actions, and even their birth-dates would not be details that would be recorded inaccurately. There's no way, for example, that Alicent and Rhaenyra would've been the same age and best friends without that being noted by a maester. Helaena's grief, the relationship between Aegon and his brothers, etc. would not be details recorded inaccurately. Only things that happened in private, behind closed doors, have various accounts because no one can know for sure what happened.
And also, I know that you're probably someone that thinks: _"The maesters are biased against the Blacks"_ But if that's the case, then why wouldn't they record Rhaenys bursting through the floor of the Dragonpit and killing thousands of smallfolk??? If the point of the book is to make the Greens look good, then why leave such an important detail out from the story??? 🤔

  • @ronaldtaylor8326
    @ronaldtaylor8326 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Yeah, Aegon joining the fight unplanned was definitely a change from the book. But Aemond trying to take out his brother wasn't really a story deviation. Even in the books, with how the fight went it was sort of implied that Aemond wanted to take out his brother. Although Aegon's feelings towards his brother are sort of different in the show, him having a special kind of affection for his brother in the books is based on his perspective . Doesn't necessarily mean Aemond reciprocated it and had that same kind of warmth & affection for his brother. He had a lot of repressed anger for his brother from his childhood.
Though I wish the show made it more subtle, whereby Vhagar & Aemond descend upon Meleys and Sunfyre while they are ripping each other apart and they try to take them both out in a way that Sunfyre getting flamed looks like an unfortunate stray. That would give Aegon or other witnesses an eternity to pick up the pieces and figure out Aemonds true intentions. Now Aegon is going to have great animosity for his brother. He clearly knows what his brother was trying to do.

Yeah, if he remembers. I'm assuming slamming into the ground after falling a few hundred feet is probably enough to give you a pretty severe concussion.
I'd think that it's a safe bet that aemond gets back to kings landing and his version of the story is more or less what is described in the books, and aegon just figures it's true because up til now he's had no real reason to believe aemond wants him dead.
