Doga Kobo is a GOAT at adapting Oshi no Ko to the big screen but for once in my life I actually want them to scrap the original ending. The thought of everyone there pouring their blood, sweat and tears into a product that people are only gonna bash just hurts man.😩
I don't think Aqua dying at the end is a reason why ending sucks,but rather how it's done. Chechov's guns,character development and plot set ups ended up sinking along side Aqua. And ending being 3 chapters long exposition tells me that Aka just wanted to finish the story and didn't gave 2 squats about it. Even if this was predicted ending of the manga,it could have been handled much better...
Imma shoot a quick hot take; I think Aqua dying could have worked, but instead of Aqua stabbing himself, it was Hikaru who stabbed him. The main reason is that I think Hikaru was so wasted as an antagonist. And while I'm aware Hikaru getting development towards the final act of the story is too little too late, it could have really solidified him as a terrifying threat to our main heroes. Maybe Aqua was really not willing to kill Hikaru, and Hikaru took that opportunity to kill Aqua and then throw him off the cliff. Then, after Hikaru killed Aqua, he could have disguised himself as Aqua since they look similar, and have gone to the B-Komachi concert on Christmas, giving the characters false hope that Aqua is alive, unaware that he is literally drowning at the bottom of an ocean and slowly bleeding out. That's another reason I may like this version more; it paints Aqua's death in a more tragic way. Instead of portraying Aqua as being incredibly selfish and willing to abandon his friends and loved ones for revenge, it portrays him as someone who failed his plan. He didn't get his revenge. He couldn't protect his sister. His father is still alive and could very much hurt Ruby, Kana, Akane, etc. So him panicking at the bottom of the ocean could be him freaking out that Ruby is still in danger. I won't go too long into this, but basically, what I'm trying to say is that I kinda lowkey wish Hikaru killed Aqua if the story wanted Aqua to die. It could've made Hikaru way more terrifying, and it also would have painted Aqua's death as being more tragic. (Okay, now I kinda wanna see an ending of that. I was thinking similar and definitely felt like Hikaru was very wasted as an antagonist. Lack of build up and actions that make him directly threatening to the main cast. As for killing Aqua tragically, I was thinking something like Aqua tried to push Hikaru off like in the fan end, but Hikaru actually grabs him and pulls Aqua down with him. In this case, Aqua actually had a good plan, but it’s tragic because Aqua had finally decided he wanted to live his life by staying with everyone, only to die along with his father. Could prolly explain it better lol Your ending seems like a more darker and tragic one but I also like stuff like that. Ig Ruby would be the one to stop Hikaru in that timeline or Hikaru just wins by killing the twin. Definitely an interesting idea.

I would say perfect, a strong ending much stronger emotionally than the ending of Aka Akasaka that you could only feel sadness and disappointment but also a lot of pain in those drawings, Aqua was a person who would have calculated everything before proceeding with her plans, all the DNA tests the transmitters she installed to get even more information about it, could have diverted any police investigation. Then if we put all the crimes of HIKARU KAMIKI that had already been discovered because Fuyuko Niino will tell everything to the police about what she did but will also reveal the attempted murder of Ruby Hoshino, in these cases by now the police should have made a technically key idea that Hikaru Kamiki because of the video recorded by Ai but also the crimes committed / feelings of guilt, decides to end it all forever. The police cannot diagnose her body well because due to the decomposition but also the crows there is not much evidence, so this whole circle would close like this. Aqua does her part everyone testifies for Aqua the police close the investigation file on Hikaru Kamiki forever. everything would end pretty well without anyone else dying.
Aqua would have had an even easier time hiding the body without being suspected, as the Japanese police tend to classify cases as simple disappearances and not investigate further if the missing person is an adult and no signs of violence are found.

Im glad that vid is getting more attention- I honestly feel satisfied with the alternate ending than I was with the original... and this is ironic, cause, as an artist/writer myself, I can sort of understand how hard it is to conclude a story in a satisfying way... and because of that, the moment i finished reading the final chapter, I was CONSUMING COPIUM so hard trying to justify that I love the ending while I felt slightly disappointed... Every time I think about the ending I get angry cause it could’ve been so much better. Like we had such a strong start for Oshi no ko but the ending just ruined it
I think there should be a few volumes dedicated to the alternative timelines and explore what would have happened in some scenarios, like if Ai didn't open the door, or explore the chapter 163 dream deeper. It won't happen but I think it could soften the opinion on the series themselves.
Now I’m honestly a little 50/50 on this one, on one hand I want the anime to do my boy Hikaru Justice, buuuuuut on the other hand i genuinely want the anime to be cancelled at this point. To be honest, I kinda feel bad for my animators at this point, cause if they animate the Original ending and show it to the world, they will pretty much become a laughing stock. So they’ll probably have to work their asses off just to create a whole new ending that most likely NOBODY’s gonna see.
akane and kana novel hinted oshi no ko will continue so maybe aqua will return we wil probably get more information when osho no ko season 3 will release maybe at that time aka and meng will publish a sequel

If Akane really assisted in a murder of someone just to help Aqua, where does that leave her at the end? Taking a dark secret to the grave and watching Aqua and Kana walk into the sun set together doesn't seem to reward her whatsoever. She will grow older and maybe feel bad about but probably not. Nothing suggests that as smart as Aqua is, he would just expose Kamiki to go to prison once and for all. The same way L wanted to arrest Light and let rot in jail. Nothing changes that Ruby will turn into Ai 2.0. This series focused a lot on lies so naturally the only conclusion would be hard truth or just facts. Regardless of the reprocussions of Ruby's dream. If he really does go through with killing their father, Aqua should turn himself in at the end.
By the end, I think Akane was just focused on making sure Aqua could be happy and move on from the past, so I don’t think AquaKana would bother her as much. Only possible issue about putting Hikaru in jail is that he could still have his followers on the outside go after Ruby. Hikaru would gladly rot in jail if he was still able to get Ruby killed. Ofc, that’s assuming Hikaru has followers we don’t know about, otherwise throwing him in jail would be the best plan prolly.
The alternate ending was DEFINITELY better than the original I don't like Aquakana but I enjoy it none the less I think Aqua and Akane actually did go on that date [ Cause my Aquakane heart wants apart of that to be true please and thank you.] I love the alternate ending so much even tho I am not a Aquakana shipper in the slightest
Glad you found the alternate ending too; it's certainly an improvement from canon. For me personally, here are some of the things I'd wanna do if I ever bothered writing an alternate ending : 😅 1. Make Aqua realize the value of his life and how lucky he was to get a second chance at it so he values it more and tries to live and eliminate Hikaru at the same time. 2. Give Ruby some extent of conflict over Aqua being Gorou cause she was literally down bad for her own brother in the OG. I'd let her move onto Melt or some other character. Honestly, Aqua being the center of the main girls' romantic attention always felt boring. Lastly, have her actually become her own person instead of regressing into Ai 2.0. 3. Give Kana BETTER treatment cause girl caught so many Ls that you could rename her L. I'd wanna let her shine in a unique way in the revenge plot, playing a pivotal role in making Aqua realize the value of his life. Honorable mention : Idk if I'd fix Akane cause her arc felt alright to me. Maybe remove the “I made my hair long to be Ai 2.0” claim because I never felt like she was imitating Ai in her daily life and even in acting, she only adopted her methods to maximize her aura. 4. Give my boy Taiki more relevance cause I don't understand why Akasaka sensei didn't use the literal son of Hikaru and Airi and half brother of the main characters more. Him interacting with Hikaru face to face, realizing his mom was the monster and not his dad (maybe he changes his name to Taiki Uehara because I personally wouldn't want to be associated with Airi in any way), having a found family moment with Ruby and Aqua and playing a role in Hikaru's downfall to protect his siblings. 5. Make Hikaru actually live up to be the legendary villain he was meant to be. Make him constantly hurt characters close to the main characters rather than just Yura Katayose. Yeah, this was lengthy and Idk how I'd achieve said goals but hopefully we get a longer rewrite from some anonymous internet legend someday.
Boys, the ending was not that bad. It was poorly written and had bad pacing but it wasn't that bad. Aqua had reasons to do this and to execute it like that but it doesn't. My thoughts? Aqua could've died as a last resort to take hikaru out after his og plan failed. It was the tendency throughout the manga to have him steer away from his vengeance at the end of each arc just to be pushed back in by something/someone. In the manga he didn't have ANY motive to get so pent up as he already had frustrated hikaru's attempt on Ruby's life hours ago. So he could've easily have planned something more meticulous (taking in account that police didn't found out he stabbed himself and a few more things) that way his regret at his last moments would have more weight, having planned everything to see it trough but choosing to sacrifice everything just so Ruby could live safely (even though he wouldn't be there to ptotect her or left anything/anyone prepared to do so in his stead.
Gotta move on sir. I have to admit that there are a lot of anime, Manga, light novel that I think could ended better or have some kind of closure like Black Bullet which ended abruptly without closure. Aqua is dead. That's how the author wanted. And in reflection that was what he was aiming for.

I liked the Fanmade Ending, for now I will have my expectations set on the anime, in case a miracle possibly happens and taking advantage of the good points of the manga and filling in extra content, the anime heads towards a better ending that saves the legacy of Oshi no Ko. I hope Aka comes to terms with the fact that generating a controversial, rushed and senseless ending did more harm than good for the popularity of Oshi no Ko and the future reception of the anime.

Hi, your proposals for alternative endings is very interesting, but I think that a perfect crime is not in line with the moral teaching of Aka Akasaka. Along all the story, one can see that bad actions led to even worse consequences; it would have been contradictory if Aqua had managed to make a perfect crime, involving even Akane and Tsukuyomi into his crime although it could have led to a less unhappy ending.

I find the alt ending way better, but the actual ending is way more fitting with how akasaka has written the rest of the series. The entire thing with showing how messed up the entertainment industry is also shows that he doesn't fear what the public thinks. Does anybody agree with this?

Aka fumbled the ending hard that even a fan ending is much preferrable
If Akane really assisted in a murder of someone just to help Aqua, where does that leave her at the end? Taking a dark secret to the grave and watching Aqua and Kana walk into the sun set together doesn't seem to reward her whatsoever. She will grow older and maybe feel bad about but probably not.
Nothing suggests that as smart as Aqua is, he would just expose Kamiki to go to prison once and for all. The same way L wanted to arrest Light and let rot in jail.
Nothing changes that Ruby will turn into Ai 2.0.
This series focused a lot on lies so naturally the only conclusion would be hard truth or just facts. Regardless of the reprocussions of Ruby's dream.
If he really does go through with killing their father, Aqua should turn himself in at the end.
By the end, I think Akane was just focused on making sure Aqua could be happy and move on from the past, so I don’t think AquaKana would bother her as much.
Only possible issue about putting Hikaru in jail is that he could still have his followers on the outside go after Ruby. Hikaru would gladly rot in jail if he was still able to get Ruby killed. Ofc, that’s assuming Hikaru has followers we don’t know about, otherwise throwing him in jail would be the best plan prolly.
@ZephyrRetro these followers are just a excuse. It doesn't help the plot to just paint Hikaru as Jigsaw. All of them severed their purpose.
The alternate ending was DEFINITELY better than the original I don't like Aquakana but I enjoy it none the less I think Aqua and Akane actually did go on that date [ Cause my Aquakane heart wants apart of that to be true please and thank you.] I love the alternate ending so much even tho I am not a Aquakana shipper in the slightest
Glad you found the alternate ending too; it's certainly an improvement from canon.
For me personally, here are some of the things I'd wanna do if I ever bothered writing an alternate ending : 😅
1. Make Aqua realize the value of his life and how lucky he was to get a second chance at it so he values it more and tries to live and eliminate Hikaru at the same time.
2. Give Ruby some extent of conflict over Aqua being Gorou cause she was literally down bad for her own brother in the OG. I'd let her move onto Melt or some other character. Honestly, Aqua being the center of the main girls' romantic attention always felt boring. Lastly, have her actually become her own person instead of regressing into Ai 2.0.
3. Give Kana BETTER treatment cause girl caught so many Ls that you could rename her L. I'd wanna let her shine in a unique way in the revenge plot, playing a pivotal role in making Aqua realize the value of his life.
Honorable mention : Idk if I'd fix Akane cause her arc felt alright to me. Maybe remove the “I made my hair long to be Ai 2.0” claim because I never felt like she was imitating Ai in her daily life and even in acting, she only adopted her methods to maximize her aura.
4. Give my boy Taiki more relevance cause I don't understand why Akasaka sensei didn't use the literal son of Hikaru and Airi and half brother of the main characters more. Him interacting with Hikaru face to face, realizing his mom was the monster and not his dad (maybe he changes his name to Taiki Uehara because I personally wouldn't want to be associated with Airi in any way), having a found family moment with Ruby and Aqua and playing a role in Hikaru's downfall to protect his siblings.
5. Make Hikaru actually live up to be the legendary villain he was meant to be. Make him constantly hurt characters close to the main characters rather than just Yura Katayose.
Yeah, this was lengthy and Idk how I'd achieve said goals but hopefully we get a longer rewrite from some anonymous internet legend someday.
At least if hikaru`s corpse is and was settled next to gorou`s...then i guess they will have some tea and company lol😂😂😂😂😂
Boys, the ending was not that bad. It was poorly written and had bad pacing but it wasn't that bad. Aqua had reasons to do this and to execute it like that but it doesn't.
My thoughts? Aqua could've died as a last resort to take hikaru out after his og plan failed. It was the tendency throughout the manga to have him steer away from his vengeance at the end of each arc just to be pushed back in by something/someone.
In the manga he didn't have ANY motive to get so pent up as he already had frustrated hikaru's attempt on Ruby's life hours ago. So he could've easily have planned something more meticulous (taking in account that police didn't found out he stabbed himself and a few more things) that way his regret at his last moments would have more weight, having planned everything to see it trough but choosing to sacrifice everything just so Ruby could live safely (even though he wouldn't be there to ptotect her or left anything/anyone prepared to do so in his stead.
What about the crow girl that know a way of resurrection leak ?
Maybe we’ll learn more about that if they make another novel or continue OnK in some way

Gotta move on sir. I have to admit that there are a lot of anime, Manga, light novel that I think could ended better or have some kind of closure like Black Bullet which ended abruptly without closure. Aqua is dead. That's how the author wanted. And in reflection that was what he was aiming for.

I liked the Fanmade Ending, for now I will have my expectations set on the anime, in case a miracle possibly happens and taking advantage of the good points of the manga and filling in extra content, the anime heads towards a better ending that saves the legacy of Oshi no Ko. I hope Aka comes to terms with the fact that generating a controversial, rushed and senseless ending did more harm than good for the popularity of Oshi no Ko and the future reception of the anime.

Hi, your proposals for alternative endings is very interesting, but I think that a perfect crime is not in line with the moral teaching of Aka Akasaka. Along all the story, one can see that bad actions led to even worse consequences; it would have been contradictory if Aqua had managed to make a perfect crime, involving even Akane and Tsukuyomi into his crime although it could have led to a less unhappy ending.

I find the alt ending way better, but the actual ending is way more fitting with how akasaka has written the rest of the series. The entire thing with showing how messed up the entertainment industry is also shows that he doesn't fear what the public thinks. Does anybody agree with this?
