This song by Steve Gaines kicks ass. That's him smokin' on guitar. Sadly he left us with lead singer Ronnie Van Zant and his sister Cassie Gaines who was one of their backup singers in the horrific plane crash of 1977, I recommended it a while back. There is still so much great Skynyrd to discover, Things Goin' On, Mississippi Kid, Coming Home, On the Hunt and Searching... there's always more

In the Aerosmith Biography their long time pilot was asked by management to check out a particular plane for the next tour. Management was excited because it was a great deal and they'd save all kinds of $. They were upset with him when he came back and said that the plane was a piece of crap and that he refused to fly It. He said the gas gauge amongst multiple other things were not up to par on the plane and that they were literally checking the gas with a yard stick. 6 months later that plane went down and Killed Ronnie, Steve, Cassie and I think the pilot. Boy did the Aerosmith people ever owe their pilot an apology. And a big thank you.

And Stevie Gaines was absolutely one of the greatest guitarists that's ever been . He had a band himself before joining Skynyrd and they were good to but I can't recall the name of it right now .

I don't think Steve was underrated . Amazing guitarist . Even Gary said after he joined the band that he would eclipse all of them before he was thru . The band saw what he could become . Sadly he and all the others were taken far too soon . Except for artists, who of course joined them later in the band , their all gone now . The times , the world that skynyrd blossomed in is gone now . There will never be anything like them ever again .

That is southern boogie perfection. A quick blues shuffle, in your face instrumentals and vocals, but it's still kinda laid back.
The guitar playing blew me away the first time I heard it, way back when it came out. Still hard to believe this song is 45 years old. I was barely a teenager when it was released.
This whole album is great, like all the others albums before it. And like those, each song on it stands on its own.

I’m telling you the more you get into their catalog, the more you will fall in love with their music!! This album was released 3 days before the terrible plane crash that took the lives of Ronnie Van Zant, Steve & Cassie Gaines, Dean Kirkpatrick & the 2 pilots. For me that was the day the music died 😔 💔 I’m so happy to see you going deeper than Sweet Home Alabama & Freebird which are great songs but they were so much more than that ♥️🎤🎸 “Cheatin’ Woman” “Georgia Peaches” “Searching” “On The Hunt” “Mr. Banker” “Comin’ Home” & “One More Time” are all great songs you should try to hit over the next few months 😉

You mentioned that Ronnie Van Zant sounded more mature as a front man. I believe this was on his final album before he died. That would explain that for sure. They were entering into a sort of re-birth in that Steve Gaines had joined the group a year earlier and Ronnie and the other members were more sober than ever and were really trying to gain back some lost ground from their last 2 albums. Ronnie really was coming into his own by the release of this album.

Wow ,, imagine picking up a guitar and trying to write these licks.... and let's also give our props to Billy Powell the pianist in there, so it was awesome I wish they would have given them a couple more bars more time to play. Ronnie and Steve had they not died.....damn😢

That album "Street Survivors" was recorded in 1977 in Doraville Georgia at Studio One where Atlanta Rhythm Section are from, 3 days later they were involved in that plane crash! ARS is another southern rock band you should check out GO DAWGS ✌💖☮
