    Thanks for the inspiration. I'm Looking forward to doing GDMBR in 2023. I retired a year and a half ago after 43 years in the bicycle industry mostly as a professional wheel builder for a number of companies. There are a lot of nice high end hubs out there but DT Swiss is hard to beat. Good luck in your future endeavors.

    Yea, I know your mechanical issue. I feel so sorry for you peddling a big load, but what a nice road. A front or rear DT Swiss 350 is so common you should be ok. I know exactly where you are and spend time there. This vid is so fun.

    My wife and I are avid bikepacking enthusiasts. We were planning on do the same section, because we also completed the divide trail in ‘23, but changed plans when we heard the forest fires closed sections of the trail. The breakdown was unfortunate….I had the same issue with my bike on a trip…Ugh! All of the extra weight can wreak havoc on drivetrains. Still,….looked like an exciting trip! Also,…have you tried Food for the Sole freeze dries? Safe travels!

      @PursuingMountains  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We don’t have any. We’ve debated getting them for years, but haven’t pulled the trigger. Is there a brand you like in particular?

      @@PursuingMountains ECEEN is the name of the panels I got off of Amazon. A TH-cam channel by the name of Megawoodswalker, has several videos on the panels. Between the panels and power banks I have, I've never run out of power. I've used them during some blackouts. I hope this will be useful, ✌️🇨🇦🇺🇸✌️

    The Whitefish area was not great for cycling this last summer. I cycled through the area late August and there were so many road closures everywhere. I will go back next year cause it is so beautiful .

    When it's skipping gears, it's called "Gear Hop", which is quite common on bicycles; the mechanism shifts over time depending on how much and how hard you bike; it's rather simple to fix it, but it will need to be maintained every now and then, from the rear derailleur index shifting screws, which can elongate the life of the derailleur; if completely worn, a new rear derailleur is cheaper than a whole rear set

      It ended up being a problem with the pawls inside the free hub. We ended up having to get the back tire rebuilt with a new freehub. It was very expensive

    Over $600 for the back wheel? That's crazy? What was the price breakdown?

    • @PursuingMountains
      @PursuingMountains  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can’t remember all the details, but I know that included in the cost was the DT Swiss hub which was at least $100-$150. We also replaced the tire which was another $100-$150. Then labor. A bit pricey, maybe next time I’ll have to do the work myself.

      It’s good so far. Haven’t taken it on a bikepacking trip since and we left for a multi month trip in Latin America shortly after. So we will see how that new hub holds out. Supposedly it’s supposed to be much more durable.
