Yesterday I was playing Olimar in a free for all against 4 of my friends, and I popped of hard. 6 or 7 kills 0 deaths dealt 700% ish and took only 270% ish So now I’m a faithful disciple of the pikmin
Pikmin 1 and 2 were some of my favorite games growing up, played them so much. As soon as I finally got a switch and got SSBU and found out he was top tier I jumped on that Olimar wagon SO FAST and I never looked back. Best. Decision. Ever.
Not sure if other people know this, but you can use attack cancelling to double switch pikmin, i.e., if you have red up next, and attack cancel -> fair, a yellow fair will come out, and when you land, blue will be up next.
I'm noticing some weird properties with the Pikmin, like Pikmin attacking on separate platforms or no longer being able to break down Luigi's mansion I wonder what changed with them.
why does nobody ever mention that pikmin get stronger when they have a flower. nobody seems to know this, and its a good incentive to keep them alive. nobody ever uses the whistle to switch pikmin either, it takes as much time as a down smash to double switch and doesn't put the pikmin in danger, as well as having super armor.
While you're right about the whistle, pikmin in smash do not get stronger/faster/tankier etc when they have a flower, the change is purely cosmetic. They do get stronger in the original pikmin games though
@@Iceberge101 I remember in sm4sh they did get stronger. Not in ultimate as I discovered in a little testing after writing the original comment. I couldn't find the original again though.
@@pote2frouifruite81 They dont. They never did in any official Smash game either. Not Brawl, not 4, not Ultimate. They deal more damage when they gain buds/flowers in Project M, but the knockback is compensated to be the same on almost every move in that game anyway.
Great guide but towards the end (27 mins) you were showing off stuff in the bottom left corner where your face is. You should have made sure that the camera was focused on your character whenever showing something off. Hopefully Smash will include an input display at some point too as Brawlout has that with analog angles included and Smash has displayed basic inputs in the control testing room.
I need more numbers for the effectiveness of side b. I've seen so many people spam this move in neutral but there seems to be so many other options in neutral that have very effective follow-ups rather than just a pikmin tacking on damage (with no hitbox, leaving you open for an aerial intercepting you). I've seen so many top level Pikmin mains in game run up back jump throw Pikmin and then just eat an aerial. Is this really the end all be all option for the character?
It foces the opponent to kill the pikmin or ignore them, and Olimar could capitalize on the first option and punish their 'whiffed' attack. And the attahed pikmin's hurtbox might clank with an attack the opponent throws out, kinda protecting Olimar and allowing for a punish.
He may struggle with fast characters but I hope it’s not that bad since I already main a character kinda like that, although I can still deal with that, because I’m interested in secondary-ing Olimar.
Olimar main trying to get better. Can someone please tell me why smash stick is better than tilt? I use tilt attacks and it doesn’t go terribly for me, but I would like to know why smash stick is better.
What's the justification for using smash stick instead of tilt for olimar? I see so many ppl say smash is better for him. I realize you'll be using smashes more frequently with him than other characters, but when will smash stick give you an advantage that a normal A + direction wont?
@@MoonfeatherWildkin Tilts arent that useful and theyre easier to execute then smashes, and its faster to to a fsmash out of run or a usmash out of run, personally i find it a little difficult to smash with a+direction consistently, olis tilts arent used that much, and i could just press the regular input for it
@@mw2401 Gotcha - I actually find tilts much harder to execute than smashes, I use tilt stick and am trying to decide if I want to use smash stick specifically just for olimar since his smashes are fast enough for something like dashing into a f-smash to be a viable strategy. I suppose I'll just need to get better at using tilts manually. Thanks!
@@MoonfeatherWildkin some characters rely on tilts a lot and some don't. Having another control scheme is smart. Example, Ganondorf tilts are super situational but he uses smashes a lot. So I never use c stick tilts on him
So the blue Pikmin gives you increased throw distance? Does that mean if you have a blue pikmin out period or does the Blue Pikmin have to be first in line? Really trying to learn Olimar and this is a great informative guide but I’m unsure about a few of the basics. Where does the line order come into play? Is it simply side B’s and Smashes?
dabuz oh okay. Thanks for clearing that up. Does it matter what order they are in line? Or does it only matter which Pikmin you have out? My question I guess is let’s say you have red, white, blue. Do you get increased distance and knock back then? Or just the color that’s first in line. I really appreciate you taking the time to answer my question.
@@sweettee_gaming The properties of the throws only apply to the first Pikmin in line. For example, you'll have an increased grab range with a White Pikmin first in line and a grab and an increased throw knockback with a Blue Pikmin first in line and a grab. Hope this helps
I would really like to see the rock Pikmin integrated into his moveset somehow. Maybe he could just pluck a rock Pikmin and use him for his forward smash instead of using one in his lineup? Or if he has no Pikmin available he just uses rock Pikmin smash, but make it have a point blank range.. I hate getting the jump on my opponent only to not have any Pikmin to punish with :(

I actually picked up Olimar today, since I remembered someone at my dorm say he was awesome in Smash 4. I checked to see if it was also true for Ultimate, and I was surprised to see he still was. Hope to learn a lot with this guide.
Do you think its worth having different controller setups for different chars? I'm picking up olimar just to understand the play style, but I normally run an attack c stick
Im trying to find a main and secondary. I play olimar, yoshi and Wario. I like them all equally but olimar feels the most natural. My yoshi is pretty scary though. Wario catches people off guard.
Sometimes when I try to buffer fair or dair out of shield I get a nair instead. This is frustrating since I lose a free punish, and I get punished for doing so. Is there a reason that it's buffering this weirdly?
@@DabuzSSB My controller config. is L for jump so I don't have to claw to use C stick out of shield, it seems like when I buffer an aerial it makes me short hop (Because short hopping with L or R on a GC controller is very inconsistent for me), but it seems like it's random whether or not I do a Nair or the aerial I chose. (Although it's more common with Fair and Up air than Dair).
@@rocklobster4942 If you buffer an aerial with the c stick it can often result in a short hop nair. C stick is just a direction and A as far as the game knows, but it only inputs a single frame of direction. Since the game has a hold buffer, what can happen if you buffer with the c stick is that the game thinks you press short hop fair for example, but by the time the animation you were buffering out of is over, the single frame of direction is over, and now the game only thinks you're holding jump and A. This can be solved by using the control stick, but you'd have to be careful not to roll, or by just waiting for the shield to drop and immediately input what you want with strict timing rather than buffering it. The training room is useful for getting timing stuff like that down.
I play oilmar and alpha because it’s fun and it’s easy. Also when I play my friends they always don’t know what to do so it’s an easier win for me lol 😂

Yeah pikmen attacking on platform is a form of de syncing. Learn to use it in a match and laugh as you catch people using plats too much

From what ik,his tilts aren't that great (very situational) and his smashes are fast with great damage

I hate using tilt stick on Olimar because when I play other characters I tend to land with f-tilt, and Olimar's f-tilt is slow garbage
