    I grew up in the 60's and 70's about 10 miles from Heathrow and used to go there plane spotting with my father. He also worked there for Pan Am in the 70's as aircraft cleaning crew. As a newbie, on his 2nd or 3rd day, the crew forgot he was with them and he nearly got carted off to Kuala Lumpur.....much to his dismay. Back then you could park up almost anywhere to plane spot but not these days unfortunately........security is far too tight. We used to park up on the top floors of Terminals 1, 2 & 3 multi storey car parks with binoculars for hours at a time and no one bothered you. I still go there (as well as LGW, BHX, MAN, STN, LTN, LCY) most days as I'm now a taxi driver but plane spotting is very difficult so to see this video is a wonderful reminder of what's the other side of the perimeter fence. Thanks for the great video and keep up the good work. I just wish I was in a position to travel as you do. lol :-))

      Justin Hopkins Until you actually want to get somewhere and your flight goes from Heathrow. Friend of mine set out from South London at 05:10 this morning, and only got airborne at 11:15. Now she is about 2.5 hours out of JFK. Then she has to take a connection to Philadelphia. It's a total pain these days.

    Got to say I don't like LHR in comparison to American airports based on the general layouts of the terminals, but the amount of heavies that take-off and land every minute is second to none and every aviation enthusiast's dream. Nice work :)

    I recently had the experience of filming in 4K at Heathrow but from the Renaissance Hotel. Like your video here, it's behind glass. However, you have some really good footage and it's not the sort of thing you can get from the outdoor places like Hatton Cross etc. Well done and thanks for sharing.

    One question: how does the runway system work at LHR? Is there takeoffs on one runway and landings on the other?

    • @marshaaksinja5749
      @marshaaksinja5749 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      No, judging by the terrible delays there, they just take off and land whenever, amd wherever, they want. (Coming from Someone who lives very close to, amd below the flight path of, Heathrow)

    • @RossAviationWorld
      @RossAviationWorld 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Marsha Aksinja Thanks for the info! Really helped!

    • @V8Bluebottle
      @V8Bluebottle 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ***** Not quite right. They use 27R for landings and 27L for take off until 1500 when it swaps over to give the locals a bit of a break from the noise. Occasionally something will land on the "wrong" runway, this is usually to avoid an inconveniently long taxi around half the airfield. When the wind dictates eastward ops (>5 knots) they use 09L to land and take off from 09R.

    • @RossAviationWorld
      @RossAviationWorld 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Patrick Lovell Thanks for the information! Really helped me as I am planning to do some spotting there this summer!

    • @JohnWalshLegend
      @JohnWalshLegend 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** Most busy mornings they use the 2 runways for take offs and landings in dual mode. Much quicker this way, but unpoular with the locals.

    Right, a viewing platform that is only available to T4 travellers. That's not really much use is it - if you're flying out of LHR then you will get pretty good views of traffic anyway.
