Why against the V8s?
They are known to be junk - I think the valve stem seals are always going bad, and then the water passages leak a ton. Also, just a pain to work on given the amount of stuff crammed in the engine back. I6s are way better IMO
form bmw just get the inline 6 or v12. the v8s or 4 cylinders are just ass.
