Someone said this actually sounds more like a Twilight Zone episode than the actually Twilight Zone version of this does and I agree. They put some serious thought into this one's backstory

Just hearing Hightower scream at the top of his lungs in the elevator with Shiriki Utundu made me feel sorry for him even though he was considered an antagonist (well former antagonist. He later became good as mentioned in the Wikipedia.).
Why was he an antagonist?? I thought he was good
He did confess his mistake in the ride so he ain’t an antagonist
This deserves to be made into a movie. Or they could have included a mystery like this in the Kingdom Hearts video game, with Sora, Donald and Goofy helping Strang and Endicott solve the mystery. That would be intereting.
And help find closure on the whereabouts of Harrison Hightower himself.
I really like the backstory for this tower. It's very imaginative the way how they can set up the same premise as all the other towers but not have to use the twilight zone.
One day Disney should make a film adaptation of this attraction!

They already made a movie about the tower at Disney World and that movie in my opinion sucked but I hope that they make a movie about Hightower. That would be awesome. :)

They went with a new story because Twilight Zone is practically unknown in Japan. Also, it fits the American Waterfront theme better this way.

this is a good story line
I actually like this story much better then the other versions. Even though my favourite is still Hollywood Studios version because of the ride itself and the building outside, I prefer this story much better.

Dominic B Disney wants each park to be special in its own unique way. They want those who live in Orlando or Anaheim to travel to Tokyo to visit their park. Because Disneyland's Tower of Terror is being re themed to Guardians of the Galaxy, that makes Disneyland even more special. It also makes Hollywood Studios even more special too, because now it's the only Twilight Zone Tower of Terror in the country and the only other one is in Paris.
But for the haunted mansion the Tokyo and American one are kinda the same

It sounds like the Japanese voice for Manfred Strand, the reporter, was the guy who voiced Trafalgar Law from "One Piece"; and it sounds like the Japanese voice for Harrison Hightower was the guy who voiced both Gecko Moria and Jimbei from "One Piece".

You're gonna need more then sacrade water. Get yourself a bunch of priests, Shinto monks, and any holy officialand a witch doctor from that village the idol High tower took from. You're gonna have to do an entire exorcism and holy cleansing.

I remember I wrote a story about Harrison Hightower in Thanksgiving 2009 and the notebook where I wrote it is nowhere to be found.
Shiriki Utundu has zapped that book out of existence! Your house may be cursed. Just take the stairs.
Can anyone tell me what happened to the interactive website? It followed the two lead characters through the entire mansion and they were trying to find the artifact and/or what happened to Hightower. I loved playing it when it was up!

I love it too - the whole story it revealed was fascinating, complete with the journal entries and furtive presence of Smelding, Hightower's valet.
The Tokyo version has a great storyline about a cursed artifact I wanna ride this so bad 😊

kingston ngu The way I viewed it is that he went to his penthouse suite to change clothes (notice how the outfit he wears going up is different from the one he was coming down in) and the idol activated when he reentered the elevator.

I wanna make a movie about this, but have the timeline be in the 2010s, two kids learning the story of Harrison Hightower III and Shiriki Utundu in High School and when summer vacation rolls by, the two kids find four more kids and they enter the hotel for fun, but when the curse of Shiriki Utundu comes to life, they realize they have to put Hightower's spirit to rest and get rid of Shiriki Utundu's curse!

Actually There's a theory that maybe Harrison went to his apartment floor to change because when the elevator falls his clothes changed and when he got back to the lift to go for the Party the idol activated either that or the Elevator is just slow lol

The elevator was in early Stages because back then the Elevator had just been invented
The complete ride experience makes clear that Hightower didn't meet his fate until after he'd reached his penthouse, placed the idol on display in the hall adjacent to the elevator, and changed into his nightgown and fez - hence the fifteen-minute interval between his last sighting and the moment of diaster at the stroke of midnight. The ride, once guests reach the penthouse level, shows the ghost/echo of Hightower's final moments - attired in his nightwear he mocks the idol, which then 'activates' and zaps Hightower with green lightning, before hurling him back into the waiting elevator, which then drops the whole height of the hotel.

@tamajinn Hightower did went up, changed his clothes before the idol 'zapped' him and sent the elevator crashing down. So I think "15 minutes" was correct. Anyhow, you should go on the tour for yourself if you want to know what exactly happened...I don't want to spoil the excitement ;D

This story is much better than the Twilight Zone version. I wonder if they use actors for the characters in this video... Strang and Beatrice look too realistic to be made of animation. I really wish to get on the ride.

@WhiteLioness100 - It's only because the Japanese are more inclined to the spiritual aspects of supernatural phenomena, as opposed to a generic ghost story (which are very popular in the United States).

Didn't read the description? This is for the Tokyo Disney Sea version of the Tower of Terror attraction. They did a few promo videos telling the backstory, this being the main one.

@NatalieGFanClub I have a feeling it was translated incorrectly and was supposed to be "15 seconds," which would make more sense... unless he went up, finished his cigar, sat on the can, clipped his nose hair and then was on his way back down when the idol decided that enough was enough.

For those People who didn't Know. this is a ride that is only in Tokyo Diseny sea.. It is tower or terror but because as i herd they didn't have the permission to use the one like the states here. They had to change it. I also herd tyoko. Diseny and hong kong are run by a different management not sure about Paris.
Jennifer Connolly The other reason is because Japan isn't _too familiar_ with the Twilight Zone, so they instead allowed Japan to create their own original story for Tower of Terror.

I don't know why? Something about that Idol scares the crap out of me. The Disneyland/word rides have better rides, but this storyline is WAAAAYYYYY more creepier in Tokyo.
