    The mark of a musician who truly understands the soul of the organ is one who understands how to work with the resonance of his space... too many organists continue to play at a rhythm without respect for the resonance of a room. The following echo and silence are part of the performance as a brilliant fanfare. Without silence, the fanfare just becomes noise¯\_(ツ)_/¯

      Excellent point. I do my best to let the music breath. Articulation is the primary key to expressivity in organ playing.

      The music from the high classical period of Lutheran orthodoxy are th masters of counter point music in hymnody and Charles etc: they just cannot beaten for greatness consistency and amounts of written music for church settings. It testifies to their great faith in God and his true word.

    Amazing: ~200 years of chorale-based compositions. Great also because these pieces may offer links connecting contrapuntal technique from mid-Renaissance to mid-Baroque to late-Baroque.

    • @aml5321
      @aml5321  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Indeed, I believe you are correct in as much as we can see how Walther and Bach are very much influenced by their predecessors such as Sweelinck - in terms of texture and harmonic progression. The 18th century very well may have seen some conscious "tributes" to "antique style" in the counterpoint and over all texture of the music.

    • @hectorbarrionuevo6034
      @hectorbarrionuevo6034 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@aml5321 Thanks for your response! Interesting you mention 18th century "tributes" to "antique style." Recently, upon reading on Kirnberger, I found a short article that mentions a setting by J.S. Bach in the texture / style of a bicinium. I've read Bach studied music by masters that preceded him by about 100 years (maybe more, e.g. Palestrina's style ?). The composer you mention, Sweelinck, "would make" Bach's "historical reach" about 120 years. Here is the link

      It's awesome that you are a serious student of counterpoint!

    • @aml5321
      @aml5321  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@hectorbarrionuevo6034 thank you, sir. I am pretty certain that Bach consciously imitated Palestrina. Sweelinck I think was more just "in the vocabulary" of texture and musical "gestures" of the day. Thanks for the link - I will check it out!

    What about Handel?

    • @aml5321
      @aml5321  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks. It’s a worthy question.
      Handel, interestingly enough is claimed by both the Lutheran and Anglican churches as their own. That said, GFH certainly grew up in the Lutheran Church and frankly contributed much do the musical life of all Christendom as well as that of humanity in general. I hope to record some Handel in the not too distant future.
