ES was a good call back in November. It made me research it a bit further and the results convinced me. Almost nailed the bottom. 😎 - Thanks for sharing your work!
You just saved me from a mistake with NFG. I was reviewing my recent purchases, mostly REITs. Then NFG popped up. The Forecasting chart looked horrible. Why did I buy this? Was gonna dump it tomorrow. Then I see your chart for NFG and it looks great. I had left the metric on OCF, not Earnings. It was operator error. A powerful tool used unwisely will cause problems. I was doing this on my phone. I usually note the graph icons when I'm in OCF. Best tool ever. Keep 'em coming! Thanks. ❤
I'm a Fortis and Atco owner here. Just Doubled down my Atco position earlier this year and sleeping easy. Love the fact that the CEO and her family are scooping up the stock hand over fist the last couple years.
Thanks Chuck, I think Atco owns the majority of CU (Canadian Utilities) and both are dividend Aristocrats (so really about the yield as you mentioned).
CEO of UGI was just kicked out suddenly. Than there is a strategic review of their business and they will probably sell Amerigas and focus mainly on regulated part of their business. They entered this hiking cycle with a lot of variable rate debt and a lot of fixed rate debt which needs to be refinanced in next two years. Only worse than this management is US treasury Yellen. Both did not take advantage of lowest rates in 80 years and entered rising rate environment with a ton of short term and variable rate debt. I guess thats why their earnigns are flat as interest expence will go up a lot. Other utilities have usually zero variable rate debt and very low debt maturities in next two years.
Chuck, you make it look so easy, and FASTgraphs is an amazing tool. I hope you keep doing these industry series forever, and if you do, consider me a subscriber forever 😊. Learning so much
Utilities are a great stock to buy in a IRA/401K. Buy them when they are cheap, and DRIP the dividends into more shares. You'll end up with solid gains on your initial investment + a ton more shares. I bought AVA in 2012 and now have 1.6X the number of shares than I did originally. Bought WEC in 2014 and now have 1.4X the shares. I still have decent gains on the original shares, even with the recent big decline. However, the recent decline allow once to DRIP share more quickly. On the down side, my purchase of D back in 2015 has been ''MEH!" at best
Can your volume be turned up some. I'm turned wide open and can hardly hear you. I'm getting hard at hearing with my old age. Thanks, I really enjoy watching your videos. I love your videos. Im aways interested in what you have to say. I'm retired and always interested in income stocks. Thanks Chuck !!!.... Can you do a up to date video on Crown Castle ??? I've been in the red on Crown Castle since the first of this year. I also, have UGI. THANKS
If you are asking are there other utility stocks that are dividend aristocrats there are 3, ATO,NEE, and ED. For dividend champions, there are 17. Too many to list, but you can look of dividend champions and find the list for yourself. Regards, Chuck
It's actually a combination of both. We calculate what we call a blended P/E is a link for a comprehensive explanation: fastgraphs.com/blog/what-is-the-definition-of-the-blended-pe/ moreover, the normal P/E is a trimmed average of how the market has valued the stock over the timeframe being measured. Note: it can change when different time frames are utilized. Regards, Chuck
I believe that UGI will be a good investment if someone is willing to hold for 3-4 years (doesn't hurt to also have a pretty good dividend while you wait).
@@brucesmith9144 Thoughtful comments. I consider this one a turnaround that has yet to turn. It was a reliable 7 - 8% growth through 2021 then no growth going forward. Earnings estimates are low, revisions trend downward, and analyst predictions are now much less reliable. Leadership claims to be implementing and new strategy. There has been significant board turnover. Execution is an unmastered challenge.
What a fascinating journey to see utilities attractions! Thank you Chuck! this was the most enjoyable part for me so far. Hope, the best is yet to come...
Once again, a solid video. I’ve been loading up on REITs, but was looking for a little more diversity for increasing income. Personally, I would also like to see more tutorials on FastGraphs.
Hi Chuck, what parameters do you consider when investing in companies where the blue line is way above the 15 PE? I'm trying to not buy premiums, but there are some companies that never drop that much and I've missed some opportunities like Walmart, where a friend has a nice 20 - 25% since last year. Thanks
I simply use FAST Graphs as a way to analyze the company and then apply my own judgment based on what I can determine. A good example is ECL , it always trades at a premium consequently, I have never owned it. Technically it's a mistake, but I don't let exceptions make the rule. Regards, Chuck
Thank you Chuck, excellent video as always. I am curious if you were able to beat the market yourself using the value investing strategy, and if so, by how much?
I build portfolios to meet specific objectives, primarily income objectives. I do not try to quote quote beat the market I try to meet the goals, objectives and risk tolerances of my clients.
Most Utilities have not enough Free Cashflow to cover the dividends, hence they have to increase debt to be able to pay the dividends. This was not a big deal with very low interest rates, but now I avoid utilities as income stocks.
Hello could you please cover NGL energy stock in the future? Paul Pelosi and Mark Green govt official bought the stock now it just got a $20 price target and coincidentally there is a Energy and Water Development bill coming next year that will help them eliminate a ton of debt and give them major tax breaks.

Always a learning experience. Have you guys ever looked into a Canadian company named North American construction company?

Thanks for sharing your perspective. Regarding D it was overvalued in 2015 which in my view explains the poor performance. Regards, Chuck
@@FASTgraphs If I had known about Fastgraphs back then, I wouldn't have bought 🤣
You can't drip because 98% of the time these stocks are crazy overvalued.

It’s like catching a falling knife. Beyond disappointing earnings there has been turnover on their board. Maybe this is for the best. Time will tell.

Could you cover the canadian utilities/energy company Northland Power (NPI)?
With a quick glance on FAST Graphs it is very cyclical NPI is very cyclical and inconsistent

Can’t believe DUK did not make the list.
Earnings yield 5.78% minimum earnings yield of 6% was required to meet the screen
