    You could cut the bottom off a bottle, put it in that way, and keep the top on when you weren't pouring water through. Use a funnel if necessary.

    I've changed the mesh to 4mm acrylic with some holes drilled into it I use habitat sedge peat as the first layer on top of the clay balls and give that a good soak I also mix rotting wood used with isopods,centipedes in their substrate with coco fibre and a small amount of sedge peat for the top layer one side is kept quite damp 1 good soak a week and other side sprayed once every 2 weeks I also keep them quite high up on the shelving this works for me and isn't perfect but have had no problems with any forest scorpion using this method 👍 great video always good to hear other keepers ideas 👌

    Something that I suggested to Tom Moran in a video about moisture dependent species - meat injector. There are different sizes. It's just basically a big syringe. That way the surface would stay dry as most T's, and other animals, don't like walking on wet surfaces.
    Good content for sure! Always looking for new methods to maintain our micro eco systems! ;)

    Well...i silicone pvc conduit that's basically blown out at the bottom as a means to pump out water if need be. Then a pvc end cap. It can obviously work to ad water also.

      @ScottsInverts i use the pvc to hold up corl or other structures sturdily. And it dawned on me as i was fixing them to the bottom on one of my first humid/ tropical enclosures. I was worried about nasty stagnant water. Although I never need to pump out as i intended. I do however add to the bottom in dryer months. I

    As the mesh is intended to stop the substrate from filtering down, couldn’t you just cover the top of the bottle with mesh and have it the same height as substrate and covered in a thin layer of sub?
    You’d know where the bottle was for filling etc and maybe no reason to put cork bark on it etc providing the top of the bottle and it’s mesh was secured in place ?
    I like the idea and look forward to the live with Dave next Tuesday.

    • @ScottsInverts
      @ScottsInverts  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      ZerOVis I thought about it and the new idea is this, cut the bottle half way up and use it so the cap is at the top then I can screw it of and on when ever I need. To keep it low and can even cover the cap with substrate.
      See this Tuesday

    I have just stumbled across this video, so sorry to be late to the party! (Not sure if there has been any updates)
    The theory being this is the same as self watering plants, though I think that drilling a hole I to the side of the enclosure in the drainage level would be a neater and more effective way of bottom watering.
    I think this may be over engineering though, I would first look at ways to retain the humidity, instead of having to add increased volumes of water. Could moss be added to your substrate mid to retain water? Maybe it this was just added in plentiful amounts in the power levels, this would hold water nicely after a long soak. Also adding leaf litter to the top surface level would act as a barrier for the evaporating moisture in the power levels, this would allow the expressed water to drop right back into the substrate?

    • @ScottsInverts
      @ScottsInverts  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Moss works well, plus with the bottle you grt to be doing something else with your enclourses, it does work really well tbf.

  • @theinvisibleman2709
    @theinvisibleman2709 ปีที่แล้ว

    So how did this work out? I’m thinking of literally adding a corner inside from top to bottom but having holes only in the bottom so it’s released only into the drainage level . Do you ever have to worry about mold issues? I have a reptile heater that sticks to the glass under the aquarium also. So I assume that with very low heat it’ll allow the humidity to soar and my scope will enjoy it … please tell me how your project turned out in this video. I’m very curious because if it worked I’m going to add the column in the back as I described . Thanks…. Brian

    • @ScottsInverts
      @ScottsInverts  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No Brian no mold but I do have a healthy colony of springtails, the water goes direct to the drainage layer spreads out underneath the substrate and comes up through it hope that helps
