      I love you're videos, but could you please stop calling white people Caucasian because true Caucasians are actually middle esteran. Yes, there are some some white people that are Caucasian, but most aren't for they're just plain European and if they are Caucasian there's a high chance it was due to rape & colonization. So please don't call white people Caucasian it's quite hurtful to those who had to run from their country due to Europeans "conquering" they're people and to those who lost their culture to those same European. Thank you so much for hearing me out! :)

      Maryam Gill You are wrong. Johann Friedrich Blumenbach, who in 1795 divided the human species into five races: Caucasian, the “white” race; Mongolian, the “yellow” race; Malayan, the “brown” race; Ethiopian, the “black” race; and American, the “red” race. He considered the Caucasians to be the first race on Earth, consistent with the common conception at that time of the Caucasus as a place of human origin.

    Idea for the next Defining Beauty video: body hair. Per example, men having hairy chest was considered extremely attractive during the 70s-80s, and in some places with predominant “surfer” or “beach life” culture, having blonde hair or low-contrasted hair in relation to your skin in your arms or legs (independently if you’re a man or a woman) is considered attractive as well.

      @@bean2275 Only hydrolyzed collagen is proven.
      Research: Not all of these collagen supplements are necessarily effective; however, collagen supplements that contain hydrolyzed collagen from marine sources have been proven to play a protective role in skin aging.
      You need up to 18 different amino acids in the right quantities and ratio to create a collagen molecule. Collagen builders made with different amino acids typically only contain glycine, proline, and hydroxyproline, but not in their complete ratios and concentrations. They also lack other minor but important amino acids necessary to construct a complete collagen molecule helix chain. Hence, in comparison, Hydrolyzed Collagen is more effective because it is already a complete molecule chain and smaller size, contains the complete amino acid sequence and can be absorbed and transported to the dermis of the skin.

    It is a real problem how we normalize tanning and fetishize darker skin on naturally (very white) caucasian people. I am white, and have freckles. Since I was very young my family and I always went to the south of France. When I was younger I became very tanned very quickly. I am sometimes shocked of pictures from when I was like 8 because I was soooo tan. Later in life, so in my late teens and early 20's I didn't tan as easily anymore (which also is because as a kid I played in the sun constantly, but as an adult I prefer to stay in the shade). My mom and dad barely wear sunscreen so they tan like crazy, as do many friends and acquaintances we got to know going to the same place each year. You don't want to know how much people pressure you to tan and how much people ridicule you for wearing sunscreen and being (naturally) white. People say "you look like a milk bottle" and "have you even been in the sun" that's hard to take from people who don't wear sunscreen, but put tanning oil on their skin instead. Mind you these people have the philosophy "what is red, will eventually turn brown". And let me tell you, they are as red as lobsters at times but still made fun of me and my sister for being white. I don't like to admit it, but those critiques caused me to tan more and boy did I become more tan... something I wish I didn't do, because my skin's health should be more important than other people's critiques. So whilst your trying to do the good thing by protecting your skin, people who do the "wrong" thing a.k.a tan without sunscreen or with tanning oil get praised for looking beautiful and tan. It's kind of twisted.

    • @arianam9977
      @arianam9977 4 ปีที่แล้ว +46

      I can relate to some of that. I'm from Southern Spain and I am super super pale, as well as all my family. In my case my parents were very aware of the sun damage, but the society "told us" that we were too pale. So my sister (which btw is a blonde blue eyed and even paler the me) and me used to spend too much time under the sun, sometimes without suncream or with tanning oil instead. I could get a little bit of tan (which is still considered so white anyway) but my sister always got super red or just got some freckles. We were only 8 to 16 years old when we were obssesed every summer about getting a tan. Fortunately, I'm already over all of that and I have accepted that my skin just can't get tanned 😅 But the damage of many sunburns when I was a kid/teen is already done 🙃

    • @cristinaa.4769
      @cristinaa.4769 4 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      I have a similar experience. I am from southern Italy and Ia’m not too pale so I tan easily, but now I try to avoid it, while when I was a teen I did stupid things like staying hours under the sun to get the desirable tan. But now I get comments saying that I’m “too pale” (even though I’m never really pale) during summer and that I should get a tan. Also a lot of people in Italy still don’t wear sunscreen thinking is useless, but a lot use tanning beds.

    Interesting video. I'm mixed black with Asian, and even whenever I tell people I'm 45 years old, they react with shock and surprise. I've been told I look nothing over 35. I have no wrinkles and my skin is very smooth, elastic and taut. My grandmother, even shortly before she died at the age of 83, also had smooth, elastic and taut skin with no wrinkles. I've observed however that my white friends have a different set of skin-challenges. Those in their 30's have wrinkles and those in their 40's already have sagging skin. The video's very correct though about discoloration in people with dark-skin. I've unfortunately been affected by this, especially areas around the neck and on my back. A lot of my black friends also have similar problems with skin-discoloration. This just goes to prove, you can never have it all...

      I am white and relatively pale normally, but in the summer I get pretty dark. It is not my goal, just a byproduct of living by the beach in a country that has a really long summer. A tan here has positive connotations of being outside all summer, having fun, being on vacation. It's not just about being darker, but also all these positive things that are connected to a tan (along with being able to wear some colours that don't go well with your normal skin tone, which some people really like ). That is why people usually tan in the summer, at least where I am from

    Fun fact: People who are Caucasian evolved from black people as they traveled further into the colder/European regions. They where dying from lack of sun to there dark skin so over time (a long time) the human race that has only been black up to this point, started being born with a gene that made them white and more sufficient for the environment. They needed less melanin and had straight hair to warm them from the cold weather when prior most humans only had kinky hair to protect themselves from the sun. ♥️♥️♥️♥️
    This really proves that the only race is the human race, the way we look should not be contradicted as it was beautifully crafted by nature to protect our species.

I’ve started to actually burn, you know when it’s so hot you have to scratch and the skin starts to get red too. Bro I really was playing myself since I realized that basically my skin has become less tolerable of the sun. I started using sun screen which I shouldave a long time ago. But you know, I’m black so I always thought it was a super power to be able to bask in the sun, I later found out this ain’t the case. The sun is as dangerous as it is helpful.
