I have suffered the pain of passing family members this time of year. Christmas music is NOT on my play list this time of year. I am reminded of the loss by this time of year. Some times are worse than others. Compassion, not sympathy, not feeling sorry, are much appreciated.

Oh my word, this is incredible! Love that everyone got their chance to shine but from 2:45 onwards in particular was just beyond amazing - whoever is on those high harmonies is out of this world. 3:00ish in particular is jaw dropping. Great job!

There were parts of it that took me on a bit of a ride. Chords I wasn't expecting, incredible high notes, even a change in lyrics at one point--and every bit of it was beautiful! Thank you Noteworthy!

Thank you BYU. Great Family memories for me. I am alone now and blind so this is precious to me. I was chosen to perform this as a solo at 7 yrs. old. I have no doubt it could even come close to anybody's version. I really can't remember. Our Family acted out the nativity scene and sang songs around the piano every Christmas Eve. My Father and I took turns performing this Family favorite upon request. I sure did enjoy this gorgeous, perfect rendition. I think the Angels and Heavenly Father enjoyed it too. Wonderful Girls. The lyrics are “chains shall he break for THE SLAVE IS OUR BROTHER… not for his child is our brother. The actual lyrics are Biblical (Philemon 1:16) and the BYU version changes it to match their theology that Christ is OUR brother. Still an absolutely beautiful song but it being my favorite Christmas Hymn, I heard it immediately. Merry Christmas y’all.

Interesting that they took out "the slave is our brother" and replaced it with "For his child is our brother". It totally changes the revolutionary tone of the song.

I know Mormons don’t accept Jesus as God. So is the lyric change pointed in that direction?
Chains being broken and slaves being freed can have spiritual application as well. That’s the way I’ve always thought of it.

I’m not sure why they made this change and I prefer the original but the foundational claim of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is that Jesus is God and the Savior of all mankind.
@AaronMatthews Mormons do not have the biblical Christ. Oh how often I have attempted to lead the boys on the bicycles to Christ. The theological issues are massive.

We may enter our mission service as boys but we certainly leave men. We serve others as Jesus did, at least the best we can. We teach from the Bible, and another Testament of Jesus Christ as you know. We know from the Bible and the Book of Mormon that Jesus Christ is our Savior! Lord of Lords! King of Kings! Our only way to obtain redemption is in and through His Grace! Jesus Christ is my Savior and King and God! Please stop spreading otherwise. I appreciate your ministry, please help bring others to Christ rather than pick on those who already believe in Him, even if our belief may not be in the exact same way you interpret the Bible.
