Bought one thanks to this review and I love it. It's pretty awesome to play some of the FDS games that had that extra sound channel and hear the differences in the music, plus some of the games like Contra that used special chips not allowed by Nintendo in the US that had extra animation. Kind of makes me feel like we got shorted here in the States.
I have an original n8, but this upgrade was worth it to me for many reasons, especially since I play several fds games. I’ll probably end up selling my old n8
For me personally, I'm really interested in the Japanese version of Castlevania III. This has the special sound chip How does it sound on the pro? On the normal N8, it sounds very off and weird
I am having major sound issues with special music chips. Sounds unplayable compared to my original N8. In talks with Krikzz about fixing the issue currently.
Around 10:40 you mention unsupported games on a "smoke monster pack" I am assuming I wouldn't have all these romhaks/demakes like ff7 that you showcased here? Seems like a cool pack to get none the less.
Isnt that to convert Scart to Component? If thats the case I no longer have any scart cables, so I couldn't compare. Now I have used the Chinese versions before when I had Scart for most of my consoles and they were as expected, introduced lag and noise into the picture... im sure the RetroTink version will be a lot better quality, but at the same time I dont know if there are newer better Chinese versions out there.
I.bought an original n8 while back..its pretty cool....its nice too see the n8 pro in action...they are a new update.for the regular n8...i still dont see a reasson too upgrade yet..but im gonna keep my eye on the n8 pro.m
Then using the RetroUSB AVS you will need to update the firmware to the newest version (found on the RetroUSB site) for the everdrive N8 Pro to work. I was getting an error 40 message until I updated.
This is a good question. I too would like to see if it works with the various NES clones that have HDMI output - the original Everdrive N8 did not work with most of them.
Does the Everdrive N8 Pro work on any of the RetroN HD clones? In a previous video, you showed the original N8 working on a RetroN 2 HD. Curious if the Pro will also work on the RetroN 2 HD (or any other HD clones as AVS's are $200 and back ordered until Summer 2023).
These sweet upgrade products are killing me. I got most of the EverDrive/ODE solutions out there from Krikzz or TerraOnion, but now all the upgrades have come out... the SD2SNES Pro, N8 Pro, Updated SSDS3, NeoSD Pro... I probably won't be getting any of these upgrades because every time I look to do this, the MiSTer calls me ever closer.
Here is something I would buy: a much cheaper version of this that I just plug my original game carts into, that provides the ability to use savestates with my original game carts.
@@TruthSword7 you said use your original game carts not original hardware, though yeah i think what you want sounds too un-necessarily complicated i wonder if someone would make something like it
I must say I've never really paid attention to rom hacks, but they do look cool! With the ever drive for nes do you just load the hack and it finds the ips file or do those files have to be combine? Or can you just look around for a complete file such as the ff7 demake that has the translation and improvements? Any direction in the subject or a manual for dummbies would be appreciated. haha. Thanks for all the great videos madlittlepixel!
Michael Hemphy I know man, I was just giving Ron a little hell. I’ve heard him say boughten in videos a couple times in the past. Though lately I’ve noticed him catching himself short of saying it. No big deal, it’s all in fun.
In the video its a Famicom Top Loader and RetroUSB AVS Famicom port I show it running on. This is the Famicom cart version of the N8 Pro, the NES version release in a month.
Madlittlepixel thanks. I missed the title stating it. Great review. I have the N8 ina top loader and love it. Those save states are huge. Can I use the same SD card and just put it in new N8 pro?
@@justinwiedrich6235 it uses a micro sd card. So if thats what you are currently using simply replace the OS folder with the pro version OS files and you should be good. Thats what I did.
@@Madlittlepixel Yea, i meant micro sd. Perfect, with those save states alone, i think it is worth the upgrade. That and the game menu. As always, voted up and appreciate the solid review.
100 save states per game? Usually emulators only give you about 10 save slots. I think 100 is kind of overkill. Also I don't like using save states on real hardware.
@@digitalblasphemy1100 Save states are only for testing purposes or for developers to test out their games and debugging. Or speedrunners and TAS'ers. If you are using save states while playing the game for real then that is not how the game was meant to be played and thus its unnatural and interrupts the regular playing experience.

How did you get smokemonsters ROMs
Is there a way to mess with the sprite limit to reduce the flickering?

Reset to menu is worth it to me
If I ever buy a NES or the AVS, I'm getting this Everdrive.
got one on the way for my twin turbo ....awesome video man.
The fact that it has reset to menu and I never have to leave my couch, sold me on this lol.
Glad to see my Mario All-Stars NES & Legend of Link games running on the new N8 Pro! Thanks for showing them in action! -infidelity

oooh, ill add to the list of testing and put it in a quick video. ill compile a few things then make a short video showcasing things people ask for.

I'll might use it for playing NES Maker Games and possibly try using my own future NES Maker Games when I get it.

how do you get the folder system setup? like games in folder A-B etc

Yes. It works fine.
Ive your loading rom hacks every other day you HATE the newer microSD The full size SD was so much better for moving between PC & cart

Dose it work on Retron HD?
Non Pro is 150€ in Germany. So the pro will cost 200€?
Why they not slash price of regular version and give pro old price for n8? This is stupid
