Whoever came up with the design of this car must have had an orgasm when they drew it out. This car is sexy mama!!! Great gas mileage, appearance, reliable, affordable, not expensive to repair, and more!
I have sold several CX-9's to several customers. The third-row vents did come up in the conversation. Due to the rear of the vehicle being smaller the second-row vents do a good job of cooling the third-row area. Had a customer sit in the third row during the test drive. A/C did great here in Texas. They were satisfied and purchased it.
but in 2019 model there is beside a heated seats there is like ventilated seats .. so will it still had an effect on 3rd row? seat? the ventilared seats do still works on 3rd row or 1st and row only?
But the Mazda is likely priced lower than similarly equipped competitors. The price of the GT and Signature, you'd be getting a lot of car for your $. And the luxurious feel you noted, when compared to luxury brand offerings at the same price, you'd be looking at pretty basic entry-level trims.
Just bought this used vehicle last night. I was surprised at the limited towing capacity as well. And the arm rest...my complains are identical to yours! : ) LOVE the projected display on the windshield. COOL INFO! Great quiet ride. Luxury feel.
I own one. I think the reason why the center console top is half split, I normally will put the charging cable through the split opening and charge my phone outside or if my passenger wants to keep his/her phone charged while in use during long trips. Try it. Another dislike is how slow the infotainment starts up before you can punch in nav destinations. The second row seat folding mechanism is not the easiest to operate compared to other brands. I still love my cx9!
Own a 2017 since new and go through cars every 2 years in the past. I am keeping this one. Even though the towing capacity is low, it tows that weight as well as my 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee did with the Merc Diesel. No problem holding speeds and the CX-9 is very stable with the trailer. Lots of torque that makes starting from a stop not a problem with either the boat or full box trailer pushing the limits. I do not care for the Infotainment. Even my 2015 Tacoma had traffic and weather radar in town. Car drives better than a Lincoln, but the Lincoln has better seat placement and controls. Even my old 2008 Mazda 6 I could raise the front and rear of the seat independently. It still is very comfortable on long trips. The AWD on the signature is better than my 09 Pilot was, with the right tires. Excellent in snow. Heads up and active cruise control. Love it. I use Active Cruise all of the time, even in the city.
That’s awesome to hear from an owner! Even with the things you mentioned I’m glad you’re enjoying it. I was definitely impressed with it, especially ride and handling. Top notch for the class. Thanks for sharing
Really enjoyed the video , good information on all the products. I'm a 2018 CX-9 Signature AWD owner and I really like the way the center console splits in the middle, it gives my wife a chance to charge her phone and put things in there for her side of the car. Good Video!!!!
Thank you very much Ricky! I’m happy to hear that you own one. After I posted the video I was thinking more about that arm rear and how it’s actually more convenient than I realized lol, thanks for sharing!
I just bought a 2019 gt love it power is awesome the turbo is smooth the interior is incredible people stare so much makes me a little uncomfortable need to tint my front two windows asap
Thank you! Someone mentioned they don’t use one because the top heavy weight of the glass could affect driving dynamics...but with everything else on this it would fit really well
I guess that makes sense. I had a Prius a few years ago and had to choose between the moon roof and the nicer 17” alloy wheels. You couldn’t get both because of the effect the weight had on mpg. I chose the moon roof.
I don't know why everyone is so jacked up about pano-roofs. How many times do you think your going to crank that thing all the way open? It will also make the cabin hotter. Less rigid. More weight where you don't want it.
Concise yet informative and right to the chase. One more "dislike" which one day almost resulted in stopping my road trip in my CX-5 is the lack of some crucial warnings on the infotainment and cluster, when on that road trip I found out the car had been completely run out of gas while driving by just coming across the cluster unintentionally and the car almost stopped without even giving off ANY warning sound not even showing on screen.
Hajan Al Janaby from my understanding, the Japanese cars that I know of don’t give a warning sound when the gas is low, they just have a light by the gas gauge that lights up
So. The center console that you disliked... turns out that it’s the perfect size for a square tissue box. And as an added bonus. The passengers in the 2nd row can reach it too! Whereas if it were a 1 piece rear hinged piece - only the front seats can access it.
It has been said that Mazda opted out of the pano roof because it would negatively impact driving dynamics (rigidity) and carries a higher weight penalty.
he is missing heated chairs, trunk opening by sensor when passing underneath, turbo sound, electric glass elevation module when the windows are left open, and the best. perforated sports discs

If you could differentiate between what is, and is not, available between the different trim types, I think other users like myself would find it helpful.

Herbert Crimple We purchased a 2019 CX-9 Signature model last November. One of the nice things is the Signature has all the options. We enjoy it very much. Love the way it handles. Just one complaint...the Bridgestone OEM tires were noisy and the ride wasn’t the best so we switched to a highly rated Goodyear tire and what a nice difference. In retrospect, I would have researched tires before purchasing and then negotiated a change. FYI, I used TireRack and MAVIS for research. Need anything else?
Currently I owned the 2018 CX9 Sig. I agree the tow capacity was over looked and its not easy to consider towing a small size camper with amenities. I like to see their diesel engine option on with model.
I own a 2018 Signature. Here's my list: LIKES 1. Looks and style. The front grille is killer, especially at night. The seat color is beautiful. 2. Power train. The shifting is smooth, the turbo adds pep, especially in sports mode. 3. Comfort. The leather seats, lumbar support and steering wheel feel great. 4. Technology. All the safe driving features, LEDs throughout, infotainment system, heated seats. 5. Ergonomics. The infotainment screen is eye level, the selector knobs are conveniently placed. DISLIKES 1) Driver seat. I'm 5'11" 200 lbs and my knees touch the door and center console. Not uncomfortable, but it would be nice to have a little more room. 2. Rear cargo hatch. If they could make it a roll down window that would be amazing. My 4Runner had that and I miss it. 3. Android Auto/Car Play. They're finally starting to roll it out in new builds but mine doesn't have it. 4. Center console. I wish they had used a push button shifter and left some spare room for a phone mat or holder. 5. Cargo space. I would have liked an option for no 3rd row and more cargo clearance space. I can't complain too much and am really just filling the dislike list with items. It's an awesome vehicle. My wife has been a loyal BMW owner for years and even she is considering one in the future. Hopefully it is reliable. I'm glad the turbo has a 7 year factory warranty.
That’s awesome, it’s great to hear your list here! All very good points. I was very impressed with it and like you said the dislikes aren’t really major for me. Thanks for sharing that as an owner! 👍
I strongly agree on that lockable glovebox. There's no excuse for that. It should come standard on a vehicle of this size and category. Also, that instrument cluster is very basic that I would expect to see in a vehicle of sub $20K price tag. But certainly not in an SUV that costs more than $40K.
Enjoyed the video. I have never towed but the towing capacity could be said it’s low but from what I know not all versions/trims of the competition can tow more than 3500. I find the seat cushion/to be small. I am not sure what is up with that seat size.
Ricky C. This would be the only complaint I would have in my week of driving the CX9 grand touring. I had a hard time getting comfortable in the driver seat
I own a 2018 Signature and my #1 like is the heated seats. My back kills me so I use the heated seats a lot. My #1 dislike is no vents in the third row.
Agree on the console opening flaps...silly idea and its gotta go. The height and bulgy centre console is annoying and you fill caged in...But my extra opinion is i wish you could opt out the 3 rd row. Make the back larger volume and supply full spare. For the benefit of country use like here in australia...your review is pretty on the mark and overall still a great and great looking car for the cash.
Prime Autotainment ...no probs...been thinking....could you advise on a couple of items...1. Has the istop been given the option to default OFF...then you select if required...personal i think this on of caper is so bad for engines...increased starter motor duty level..higher compression when hot...battery gets hammered...so on.. And 2. Tossing up between this 9 versus getting a 6 wagon...totally different i get it...but as stated before i cant find a decent wagon style replacement of my good australian holden wagon that carrys everything.
Well where I am the CX9 doesn’t actually have the auto start stop. I don’t think any of our Mazda’s do but I would think you could shut it off. The ones we have here for other brands default to having it “on” though which stinks because I feel the same way you so about it. Tough call there! I guess it comes down to how much space there is since you wanted to opt out of the 3rd row. Good luck to whichever you decide!
Oh forgot to mention, cargo and overall interior size is smaller compared to other suvs in its class because of the styling. It's a good looking xover suv because of its long nose and rear sloping roof and aggressive styling. A boxy rear styling might look goofy given the lines from front to back side profiles. The handling and rigidity of the chassis though is superb. Goes to show their skyactiv framing design and strength of the framing used.
I love my 2015 grand touring.🤩. Same dislikes:::the cargo space and middle console, also my 3rd row doesn't have charging outlets like I've seen in other models 😩..
Space in front is not enough for long leg guys... I have 2015 honda accord and I am 6 feet guy. I enjoy how spacious accord is. I sat in mazda cx-9 and in driver seat you feel like in cage. It's impossible to spread you legs not comfortable at all. This car for short guys, imho
I’m really considering purchasing a 2019 Mazda CX-9 signature but I’m not sure I want to pay over 40k. But I want the perks!!! I really don’t mind the towing capacity I really don’t tow anything and if I ever do will will not be anything over 3500.
Yeah the price is tough. If you go for a Touring and pickup some options you can get some nice things but I hear ya with the price! Negotiate and be firm in the price 👍
I own a 2016 GT model. Dislike: (i) center console takes too much space, I'm 6'1" and feel discomfort with my right leg, always the feel I need more leg space; (ii) infotainment system is too slow to get started once engine is on. Like: everything else, especially how it feels to drive, such a smooth ride and quality of the interior.
Good to hear about your experience. Thanks for the input. I was super impressed with how it drives and rides. My favorite 3 row SUV to drive that I’ve tested! I hope you continue to enjoy your 2016 GT 👍
When I test drove the CX9 I also had the same problem....I am short and fat....but dont have a problem with my civic as daily driver... Also, Mazda CX9 is actually a good 5 seater and should do away with the 3rd row.
I have a 2016 Cx-5 and a 2018 Audi Q5. The Mazda’s are awesome vehicles that punch above their class, but when compared to the Audi, they’re let down by the infotainment system and other electronics. Our Mazda can barely charge a cell phone from its USB ports - and the interface is horrible. We’re going to upgrade to Apple car play on the next service. It drives equally nicely and is equally comfortable in a different way. We’re impressed enough that when the Audi’s lease is up, we’re shopping for a cx-9 alongside a highlander.
I like your rides 😁. Great point about infotainment and electronics. That stinks about the USBs...I’m actually testing a 2019 Cx-5 and I know it has two fast charging USBs for sure...but they might only be the rear ones? Can’t remember. Good choice with CX--9 and Highlander. They’re excellent options.
@@PrimeAutotainment I just can't see it with a mazda cx-9. I have a cx-5 and hoping to trade it in for the 9 later this year. We need the 3rd row and I like the Mazda SUV lineup
Thanx for the video but i think the dislikes were on personal view. i can live with the dislike you've mentioned cuz really Japan made a very luxury and economic vehicle.
Adding to your dislike list are: no captain's chair available for the 2nd row seats as it makes going to the 3rd row easier and looks more spacious for me; no panoramic sunroof; and for such a big vehicle, the rear lights are kind of too small for my taste; and lastly a questionable reliability as this is not recommended by the consumer reports, I think.
Good point on captains chairs. I wonder if they don’t offer them because the 3rd row is only 2 seats..not sure. I also read about their predicted reliability on it, not good. I guess time will tell. I wonder if it’s mostly because if the powertrain or what issues they suspect
Awesome SantaJoe captains chairs are available now on the 2020. But on the 2020 Signature I don”t believe you can get to the third row with them. I drove a rental CX9 grand touring for a week for vacation this past week and it had the captains chairs with no console in between so you could get to the third row that way too
Are there any changes with the Lane Keep Assist tech? I test drove a 2018 Honda Pilot and a 2018 CX-9 and found that the CX-9 had much better Adaptive Cruise Control but lagged behind the Honda Pilot in regards to Lane Keep Assist. I am hoping that Mazda tweaked their software for the 2019 model to match Honda's Lane Keep Assist abilities.
As far as I know, there aren’t changes to the actual lane keep Assist system, but it’s available on the base Sport trim for 2019. I agree with you on the Pilot/CX9 systems too...that’s how they feel for me too
I own a 2017 GT.. No TILT SEAT.. WTF! My Dodge Caravan had that..I can't believe they didnt put a tilting seat. I believe the 2018 has it. I love this car.. Its really quick and love driving it.. But they missed out on some simple features.. Leg room in the front cockpit. Im 5'9 220lbs 36 inch waist./ big quads. . and I keep hitting the knees on both door and center console.. its a little tight. I dont know how taller guys fit in the area. i sit wide legged.. as most men.. The cockpit side leg makes no sense. The temperature display area..WAY WAY TOO LOW.. You literally have to look down.. its almost as bad as texting, as to how low you have to look to change temps and vent distribution.. That should definitely be higher in the center console. and bigger buttons, you're driving, you can't be doing fine motor skills and pressing little buttons that low, you need knobs that turn, not buttons to adjust the fan level. Not a button to select vent choice. AND WHY IS THERE TWO ? Dash cluster - there's no TEMP Gauge..why??? Tilt steering should definitely be electronic. And they seem to have done things in the info display with a minimalist intention. Cruise control display - small diagram, small fonts, small indicators, no colour, everything is tiny, nothing pop out to let you know its on.. compared to many other vehicles, the cluster is pretty sad. Love this car, love the drive, the feel, the look, but at 50 Grand, these things shouldn't be missing or an issue.. Cant believe no tilt seating adjustment!
I've towed my motorcycle 1500 miles with this car. It does just fine. No issues even in the mountains. Towing about 1800 lbs and loaded car and plenty of power. The torque they got out of this thing is amazing.
I live in the hottest place on earth beside hell, Saudi Arabia the temperature reaches to 135 degrees sometimes. The heat kills the leather and grills the birds. So all I ever wanted was 3rd row air vents so we can breath and remote start so it can turn the car from scorching hot to somewhat liveable.
Tom Liu I prefer 6 cylinders to 4 cylinders also, but after spending a week in a rental CX9, I was very impressed with this engine. It had plenty of power and it was quiet at idle. I wouldn’t mind owning a turbo four-cylinder from any of the Mazdas👍🏻
Eleanor Massaro u need more frequent oil change, otherwise the engine won’t last very long, since this is big CUV the poor little engine needs to work extra hard to get the car going, yes it is fast I been in one, but I feel the engine is going to explode
Eleanor Massaro that engine note, gives me the chill, I know the torque number, just don’t like the idea of putting a small engine in a big 3 row crossover
Its not like I am asking for a 8 track or a casette player, that are a discontinued technology, I have a huge collection of cds, and for me is a complete diferent experience to hear music from a usb o streaming source than from a cd.
I agree, shame because the 2017 Mazda 6s had one. I have tons of old CDs that I keep, they'd sound amazing on Bose Centerpoint system sounds instead of the compressed MP3 / spotify/ phone based audio.
I can’t speak off personal experience because I’ve never owned one either but they seem to be pretty reliable. I’ve heard the best reliability out of the Mazda 3 and 6 but maybe some other owners will chime in
We have a 2011 CX 7, still running the same as we bought it. Never have had it in for anything other than maintenance my daughters both have the cx3 2015 and 2018, zero issues. We are getting the 2019 CX 9 GT tomorrow, signature has brown seats and that is not my taste , getting the white leather. We have been customers for awhile and they held this car for me for over a month. Drives so smooth and the options are fantastic.
I know it’s a bummer...some other people commented saying it’s because it would change driving dynamics with the weight of pano glass up there. Raises the center of gravity
What’s your favorite and least favorite?

The CX-9 really has upped its game in the last 2-3 years. Right up there with Audi, Volvo and ahead of domestic brands IMO

Did you by chance do a walk around? We are looking for a used one but with the optional rear entertainment screens for our young kids.
Go to dealer and check by yourself
Any comments on the Fan Blower, my understanding is that its always on ?
Dang that’s something I didn’t notice or pay attention to..
Wilber Mason do you mean the fan blower for the engine or the turbo? I did not notice any fan blower running in my week of driving a rental CX9🤔
Enjoyed the video. I have never towed but the towing capacity could be said it’s low but from what I know not all versions/trims of the competition can tow more than 3500. I find the seat cushion/to be small. I am not sure what is up with that seat size.
Ricardo Chavarria thank you! That’s true, I believe pretty much all others require AWD in order to go over 3500. Interesting point I. The seat too
Ricky C. This would be the only complaint I would have in my week of driving the CX9 grand touring. I had a hard time getting comfortable in the driver seat
i agree with every single thing u said i have the 2021i wish the cargo space was larger considering the size of the vehicle
I own a 2018 Signature and my #1 like is the heated seats. My back kills me so I use the heated seats a lot. My #1 dislike is no vents in the third row.
Heated seats are fantastic for sure! That’s a good point too, something I definitely should have included. Thanks for the input!
Are you saying the 3rd row doesn't have air conditioning?
That’s correct!
@@bench175 I believe there are events I the floor but it doesn't have torso height vents. It stays just as cool and warm as the rest of the cabin.
Heated seats is a default feature for almost all expensive car u buy nowadays, especially new ones imho
Why still 6 speed automatic gearbox? It's Mazda, where is the zoom zoom?
Agree on the console opening flaps...silly idea and its gotta go. The height and bulgy centre console is annoying and you fill caged in...But my extra opinion is i wish you could opt out the 3 rd row. Make the back larger volume and supply full spare. For the benefit of country use like here in australia...your review is pretty on the mark and overall still a great and great looking car for the cash.
I was surprised by that center console, it’s odd but some people like it. Thanks for the input and for watching, appreciate it!
Fair review.
Yep for sure! It’s a little give and take with styling/cargo. Still pretty spacious though.
And yes you can definitely tell the chassis is very solid
There's also aerodynamics and efficiency. Boxy rear = more drag = less efficient.
I love my 2015 grand touring.🤩. Same dislikes:::the cargo space and middle console, also my 3rd row doesn't have charging outlets like I've seen in other models 😩..
Glad to hear it! Can’t win em all I guess...but I’m happy to know you love it otherwise!
I really like cx-9 but i cant afford it so expensive, so i bought mazda3 speed bose 2019 model..
Mazda3 is still nice, good choice! 👍
Thanks for letting us know. The Accord is definitely impressively spacious. I agree that it feels kind of cockpit like in the front.
I'm not a fan of the gas mileage I find my self refueling pretty often
Dang sorry to hear that!
Frank Rodriguez what?? I rented a 2020 CX9 to drive from Florida to Tennessee and got great gas mileage on it! Was very impressed by this vehicle!
May I know where do you get that center grille lighting from? I have a touring but I really do like that v shape lighting.
It’s pretty sweet! The bummer is that it’s only on the signature trim. I don’t think you can add it to another vehicle
Negotiate Signature to $39k all day long.
Hey. Make a review for 2018 GMC Savana cargo van. Thank you.
Ya Vash I’ve never had a request for that before! I’ve contacted GMC a couple times with no luck. Since I’ve gotten Chevy, hopefully GMC soon too!
Chevy express will also go. I live overseas and I really like your havy duty car. Thank you.
Ya Vash good point. I’ve got connections with a dealership and potentially a press car so I’ll see what I can do soon!
Nolan Merill, thanks. I'll wait.
Dislikes: Mazda doesn’t have
#1: adaptative cruise control
#2: digital cockpit
#3: seats with massage
Man seats with massage would be awesome, I just didn’t expect that in this one lol. Agreed on the digital cockpit! It does have adaptive cruise though
Marcos Jerez you do get the digital speed on the heads up display and it does have adaptive cruise control
Paul Jones Retrofitting the 2016 Cx-5 with Apple car play will give you that improved infotainment as well as fast 2.1amp charging ports.
Well.. I preferred cx9 2019 or 2020
Tow = Truck
Suv= 5-7 people for distance with good full economy.
Lots of people still tow at least occasionally with their SUVs, or want the ability to do so. This is half of what most in this class can safely do.
@@PrimeAutotainment I just can't see it with a mazda cx-9. I have a cx-5 and hoping to trade it in for the 9 later this year. We need the 3rd row and I like the Mazda SUV lineup
@@thej4468 probably true lol. Very nice! It still drives great and feels luxurious. How have you liked your 5 so far?
@@PrimeAutotainment Great! No complaints. Just running out of room as our family grows.
... Hey Nollan ... ¿ which car you own/drive ? ... just curious ...
Esteban Posada Duque ha, a 2017 Toyota Camry SE. I’d like something nicer and more fun, but it gets the job done. Good commuter
@@PrimeAutotainment .. pretty awesome ... i´ve got a 2017 Ford Ecosport TITANIUM AT ... i´m into small SUVs ... keep on the good job ...
Nice! I'm an SUV fan too, and almost gone one myself. The next one probably will be. Thank you! I appreciate that
@@PrimeAutotainment ... there are several options from off-roady to more city/urban oriented ... thanks to you ... for replying ...
Another dislike- the huge center console. Impedes on legroom (i'm 6'2") but am still considering buying as everything else is just fantastic.
What about the cx5
Thanx for the video but i think the dislikes were on personal view. i can live with the dislike you've mentioned cuz really Japan made a very luxury and economic vehicle.
Yep you’re exactly right. They’re just my thoughts after only a week. Overall I really really was impressed with it. They did a great job
nenoz thanks for watching and commenting btw! 👍
@@PrimeAutotainment you welcome
They listened to you and added the tilt seat feature for 2018. Mine has it.
Sounds like you need a tractor trailer you obess fuck. 😂😂
Why would you tow with something that beautiful 😍😍
sneakerheadTom that’s fair lol 😅
I've towed my motorcycle 1500 miles with this car. It does just fine. No issues even in the mountains. Towing about 1800 lbs and loaded car and plenty of power. The torque they got out of this thing is amazing.
@@justinfontaine5539 Motorcycles don't weigh anything or have any wind resistance.
I towed a motorcycle with my old Mitsubishi Eclipse!
I don’t blame you at all!
Very good reason, nothing that cant be improved easily.
Those dislikes seemed more like net picking to be honest
And you’re right they really are small things. That because there aren’t any big things I dislike about it.
The four cylinder is a big turn down for me, why not V6 twin turbo
EPA regulations for vehicle manufacturers. Lower emissions on the four banger
Tom Liu with 310 to 320 foot pound feet of torque I don’t see how the engine would be so taxed
Eleanor Massaro that engine note, gives me the chill, I know the torque number, just don’t like the idea of putting a small engine in a big 3 row crossover
Ok ... no problem
Why not in signature 😠
228822 FAWAZ I don’t understand your question. He is driving the Signature model
Does the refreshed model have aircon/heater vents on the 3rd row?
Nope it still doesn’t. I should have mentioned it as a dislike
why hek you confusing with 2018 with 19
Because they have new features for 2019 but I was in a 2018 model. Sorry I didn’t mean to be confusing!
No cd player.
Good point. Those seem to be few and far between for new vehicles nowadays
It's 2018 and you want a CD player? LOL
Its not like I am asking for a 8 track or a casette player, that are a discontinued technology, I have a huge collection of cds, and for me is a complete diferent experience to hear music from a usb o streaming source than from a cd.
Yeah it’s lame. I’m sure it doesn’t cost them hardly anything to add one, but they don’t
I agree, shame because the 2017 Mazda 6s had one.
I have tons of old CDs that I keep, they'd sound amazing on Bose Centerpoint system sounds instead of the compressed MP3 / spotify/ phone based audio.
The dislikes are minor!
Should improve keys
I'm going Mazda in 2020
Did you go??!
@@afrprincess07 yes I did
@@sam3kperv haha thanks for responding!
Супер!
5 dislikes are too many dislikes.
I do the 5/5 format in many vehicles/brands...even if they’re petty dislikes. Regardless of the dislikes...I really like the Cx-9!
I never owned Mazda do they last..
Always had Honda’s
No 6 : This car does not have a panoramic roof.... why 😤
I know it’s a bummer...some other people commented saying it’s because it would change driving dynamics with the weight of pano glass up there. Raises the center of gravity
Prime Autotainment I see
Prime Autotainment Also cause noise inside the car and + will be repaired or replaced expensive after an accident if affected
I wish it had CD
Maybe an 8-track too? 😯
I mean now who uses CD now days now we have technology.
Its Mazda NOT marzda
Lol..I don’t ever remember saying Marzda. And technically almost nobody says it the correct way
Dose your boyfriend agree to your review?
You mean my wife?
Homophobic comments?
Your dislikes totally nonsense.
To each his own
No entertainment.

Why wait and buy a brand new car, for android play, when you can just buy a new stereo? Consumers are idiots
Why buy a brand new car at all? Obviously it’s not smart not is buying one just for android auto lol
