Great job on this video. I dig the variation you can get with this series of amps. The multi-soak option is great. I was originally into the TC-50. I don't really need 100 watts. But, this amp you can really play around with the output, which I think is what makes this amp so flexible.
Hey Don, I’d agree with Dr. Harmonica except well, you do work for Sweetwater and you do try to sell the stuff y’all stock. But I pulled the trigger last month and sold my DSL 40C and bought the Mark 25 and I am a Mesa guy forever. Everything you said and showed was right on target. If anyone wants an amp this big, a Mesa is the way to go, the tone these people come up with is unbelievable. Sweetwater is the place to buy if there’s not a Mom & POP ship in your area. Good video!

I wonder if that amp can have an high volume crystal clear sound ? i play with an animal durmmer but i do need a big big volume always crystal clear. i hesitate between it and the triple recto 150w
I have this amp and it's an amazing gigging platform with fantastic rock tones. I have so many positives to say about this amp but I do have some reservations about the tight (also drive) voicing. I think the tight tone circuit went a bit too far. I understand the reasoning behind the tight mode which is a great idea, especially for the higher gain players. However, I feel there's too much of a difference switching from the normal mode to tight/drive and this is exacerbated in the clean channel because it has less drive than the other 2 channels so the bottom end just gets cut too much. If only the clean channel could maintain more of that fat punchy bottom end when switched into drive mode. I still love this amp, but I dislike the noisy fan as well.
But that's only a problem if you use the tight switch on the clean channel? I mean, you could keep it off on the clean channel and use it on the other two, right? I'm researching the TC-50 against the V:35. Leaning towards V:35, but there are some really good things I like about the TC50. First being the 3 channels over 2, much smarter footswitch layout and the EL34s vs the EL84s.
I just purchased this amp. It is really very good . I would somewhat agree with the tight switch I find it cuts too much bass ,but you can compensate somewhat . I would like the drive switch on the clean channel to have a little more usable gain. But all in all I am very impressed with the quality’ and features of this amp. I play it a lot and it has very satisfying tones to be found .
Enjoyed this review. Am thinking of this or the Friedman BE50 deluxe, but the attenuator on this Mesa sounds soooo useful. One question - what cab would you guys recommend for mainly home use?
Craig S, thanks for the kind words, glad you enjoyed the demo. As for a speaker cabinet recommendation, the cabinet I demo'd this amp with has Celestion V30s in it and is closed-back. V30s have a pretty specific sound and the closed-back effects the sound as well. If you like that tone, look at a 1x12 version and keep the volume down on the TC-100 since V30s are rated at 60W! I've had two, 2x12 Mesa cabs since 1989 that have been used on thousands (literally) of gigs and have gone through multiple speaker changes. They still sound great. Had a Mesa Royal Atlantic, which had their individual channel power attenuator circuits in it. I found them to be next to useless. MUDDY sounding when you back off the power much...disappointing to me at the time. Oh...and my two cents' worth...FRIEDMAN. I have the BE-50 deluxe and gig it regularly. Total bliss.
I've never heard Don demo anything that sucked, lol. Weather Don likes the product or not.... is irrelevant to the purchaser. If you like it, buy it. If someone else doesn't like it....who cares. People have different tastes..... and varying degrees of hearing loss.
It's entirely posible that some rocker, roper or blues buster would ever use the metal settings, but not likely. And visa versa. So the futuristic Swiss army amp thing is also a waste.
Youre lucky. In the UK the Cheapest Ive found this is nearing $3500. Damn 20% sales tax. Even the 50w version is near $3000. Im still gonna get one with a 2x12 recto cab though, even if it means noodles and bread for 4 months.

I'm a Marshall guy and this Mesa sounds lovely...not the usual recto sound finally. Cleans are sweet and the distortion is classy.

Mesa-Boogie has made many amplifiers that do not sound like their Rectifier Series.
