    Love the way you teach, man...
    1. You show the problem
    2. Simple solution with long explanation
    3. Quick review
    4. "Real life" example
    It makes so easy to understand.
    Very impressive, thank you. I'll definitely check your Patreon :)

    Tried to draw a pencil sharpener, having not really learned perspective. Vanishing points were off the sketch. What a rabbit hole. Your videos helped enormously, I learned a lot, and I am looking forward to watching more of them.

    Hey Dan, I just wanted to thank you for creating these videos. I love that How to Draw book by Scott Robertson but sometimes I just can't get what he's writing about so seeing you covering all of those same topics is super helpful. Next time I sell a painting I will donate on your Patreon page.

    Thanks for this dude - really helpful - I'd been meaning to dig into Scott Robertson to learn this technique for a while but I always find his stuff slightly impenetrable / overly technical, so this has really demystified the process.

    Damn Thanks a bunch a really clear and easy guide for a drawing with this type of issue. a 2 meter long stick would not have been enough (also not an option for a digital drawing) for how far away my left vanishing point would be honestly. I looked at a few other things first but this genuinely helped with the specific drawing I wanted to make.

    Funny thing is I came here after reading Scott's first chapter on perspective and VPs and did a bit of sketching and figured out that all my vps are always off page and trying to figure out wth to do about it I googled it. I had no idea that there's more clarification later on in the book. Thanks for the vid.

    How is the brewer method applied to 3 point perspective and curvilinear perspectives? Also, is it practical to use all these technical skills when 100% accuracy isn't my goal? When should I just try freehand?

    • @appolity
      @appolity 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Have to agree with you. My brain just shuts down when I have to construct the grid accurately. Like the 45 degree angle etc. I always thought it’d be easier to just draw the horizon line, plot two vanishing points on the line and then extend lines from there.

    Hi Dan first of all thanks a lot for your amazing videos, they are really helping me out!
    Ok so, when using the brewer method how do you know of you have a 90 degrees angle on the square? meaning is there a way to know if the the vanishing points have a 90 degrees relation from the station point?

  • @shojintam4206
    @shojintam4206 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have a request. So, I’m going to be painting a mural that is 4’ x 24’. The mural will consist of 9 panels, each equal in dimensions (2.5’ x 2.75’). The leftover vertical space (1.5’ x 24’) will be separated into two equal panels.
    Inside each of the 8 panels will be a depiction of well know landmarks known throughout the area, where the mural will be painted.
    My initial process was to just google each building/landmark and do a 2-point perspective drawing of each within its designated panel.
    However, what I would like to do is somehow draw/paint each landmark from the same point of view on the same horizon line.
    Any suggestions on how you would go about doing that?
    The approach demonstrated in this video, made me think I could take an existing structure drawing and re-draw from a specific angle using this technique.

  • @bobankrsmanovic9398
    @bobankrsmanovic9398 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Awesome.
    So you basically construct strictly flat plane (totally 2D and without any perspective) with the help of the 3 lines, so you can get 4th line.
    And from there.. you can construct anything :)
    Thank you.

    how do you divide an object into a number of parts that isn't possible to do with the "diagonal line center point" method without the visible horizon line on the brewer method.
    or do you just make a smaller portion of the larger object and duplicate it until you get the desire number of parts.
    say i wanted to make a door at the center of a house. and the door is 1/7th size of the front of the house. i could make a door width object and duplicate it 7 times.
    but lets say i already established the house in the form of a basic box with other structures already in place so i cant just redo that box. how would i divide that accurately without the horizon line. or am i going to have to rely on intuition.

    I have a question. This technique helps you find vanishing points off the paper. But from my understanding, for a perfect square (90 degree intersection between lines), you want pairs of vanishing points like 45VP & 45VP, 30VP & 60VP, etc. How can you know which of these vanishing points you're using with the brewer method?
    Edit: I ask because I imagine this is very important for reflecting lines across planes, etc.

    I still don't quite get the "make the grid part" Like do I make a he grid from the axis that are on the higher divisions or am I missing something entirely? I get to the part where I find the upper line and that goes to the left vanishing point and do the divisions as instructed but I still can't quite find the "grid" if that makes sense

    Dooes the distance between vanishing points vary exponentially if the drawing is drawn with a "wide" lense perspective. People tend to draw them closer giving a more dynamic look.

  • @87rtlandry

    Seems to me that drawing a more complex structure in two-point perspective would still be quite difficult using this method. Would your solution be to make a more detailed grid structure?

    • @DanBeardshaw
      @DanBeardshaw  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Ryan, I would probably add more sections to the grid, but when drawing in two points perspective you only need to find those two vanishing points and this is how I would do it.

    I cant tell if everyone is just not explaining things right or im just stupid. (Probably the latter) But i just can not understand this... I get how he made the grid. i just don't understand how hes using the grid. Like how are the windows, and stairs, and door, etc. in perspective? There still isn't a visible vanishing point and the grid doesn't line up with them. I think im gonna give up nobody can help me get this one...

    1. How do you draw those lines and know that they do converge at some point? 0:56 Can't you just do the same in 1:05?

    3. I don't know how you can do that, do you just eyeball the scaling? 2:53

    This is the part of drawing that I hate.. It's too artificial, too, I'm not sure what the word is, too "bothersome" I guess, and just no fun. The off the page vanishing point is really wherever I want it to be to give me the perspective I want. It isn't set in stone. I know when something on paper matches what I see, and when drawing from my imagination, I know when the drawing I'm putting down looks the way it should, which is how I want it to look, which is not always the way the rules would have it look.
    I guess what I'm saying is that a vanishing is only as far off the page as I want it to be. I can even move it onto the page, and adjust the drawing accordingly. Another way to look at it is that the page covers as much area as I want it to cover. I can draw a line of building that moves off the page after three buildings, or I can draw a line of buildings that is ten miles long. I can draw a landscape where the horizon is a mile away, or where the horizon is a hundred miles away.
    Either way, I don't draw a picture because of where the vanishing point is supposed to be, the vanishing point is where it is because of how I draw the picture.
    This is undoubtedly NOT the best way to approach drawing, but it works for me, and it's just more fun.
