Something I actually caught on my playthrough after the second boss.
When Knuckles fake-out punches at Super Sonic, he flinches for a moment, because Knuckles was able to punch the emeralds out of Sonic at the start of Sonic 3.

Heads up: In Super Sonic you still have access to all the other attacks you unlocked like the stomp and spin kick, so you you don't have to rely solely on your basic attacks and parrying.
To add on, it’s also possible to cyloop Titans as well.
@@shreeder4092 And to further add on to that, you can cyloop them twice. For example, cylooping Gigantos tosses him up and then cylooping again while he's airborne throws him down to the ground.
Wait until he discovers that parrying doesn’t require timing, he can just hold the buttons until something hits him…

Given "Super Knuckles" is in quotation marks, that probably isn't the case, sadly.
Sonic 3 and Knuckles was confirmed as canon to the "Modern" series in this game. Super (and Hyper) Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles are canon.

Well apparently anyone can harness the power of the Chaos Emeralds, but their form depends on their alignment and species
I highly recommend you buy all the Egg Memos from the fishing spots by the end of the 3rd island, they give you some necessary background lore along with character development set-up that the main story unfortunately doesn't give time to set up.
Edit: if you want, you can get them on the final island if you prefer, so no pressure. There's also 24 of them
The egg memos are honestly one of my favorite parts of the game, it’s a pity nobody has really reacted to them yet.

Fun fact: Super Sonic flinches when Knuckles punches at him, which is a reference to when Knuckles knocked him out of super form at the beginning of S3&K.
And also, the the laser that shot down Super Sonic at the beginning of island 2 caught Sonic by surprise, also like how Knuckles did in S3&K where he surprises Sonic and knocks the Emeralds out of him.
@@isplat927 I mean it shouldn't matter if he was surprised or not, it shouldn't suddenly do so much more damage just because he didn't know it was coming. It's like if superman being immune to bullets only because he sees them coming, but then he gets hurt because one got him that he didn't know about. It's nonsense.
A couple bits of unsolicited advice in case you want it. If you want to find Big easier, look for the red circles with the question marks on the map. That signals challenges to expand the map and will help find big. His portal shows up as a fish icon on the map. Fishing is a perfect addition to the game as a break from the regular game and lets you progress VERY quickly. As one other commenter said, Super Sonic maintains his other skills from normal sonic. I highly suggest using the quick cyloop among the others skills on the bosses because there’s some crazy things you can do. Unlike the final boss unfortunately, the third boss definitely lives up to the hype. Make sure your difficulty is on hard in order to fight the true final boss at the end.
If you clear every challenge on a stage, the entire map fills out and you get the ability to freely warp between the Cyberspace Portals, including Big’s Fishing Spot. With the scrolls you can fish up for the Koco, you can warp all over the stage, it’s great.
One of eggmans memos say that starfall only has 3 islands. And you can tell that's true once you get to a certain story point. Which means at some point Sega had sonic team make the game a little longer
Still annoying how island 4 is just the the top part of the first one and doesn’t have anything in it except the towers

In addition to the silhouette, if you compare the map of Rhea and Ouranos you can see that they are connected.
Quick tip: if you max out your rings by repeatedly do the cyloop, you get an Even Faster boost

I completed the island maps as I beat them, and I also discovered the infinite boost truck before I even got all of the chaos emeralds on Kronos.
To be fair, I beat the entire game before I found out about that feature.
Funnily enough, I'm up to the third island myself, but I didn't know it was an infinity loop that did it. I just drew like, 100 tight circles to get the boost.

Yanno what, I think the thing I love the most about this game is how the characters are allowed to be... Well, characters.
In recent years, Sonic games just had them as caricatures, only having catchphrases and basic traits, so this is big in my eyes.
They can have emotions, stakes, personalities. Hell, even Eggman has his own emotions beyond "kill Sonic and take over the world"
This game so far is looking good, compared to other 3D sonic games.

@@nieiniewiem773 Do you mean as of late? Story wise its kind of mid. It beats the shit out of Sonic Forces but still doesn't hit the emotional gut punch that was Sonic Adventure 2 ending. It tries but doesn't quite hit it. Gameplay wise I don't make comparisons since we would be comparing a 2022 game to a 1990s game which is kind of silly to do.
It's hard to find the end of adventure 2 emotional (or any sonic game honestly) when you know the character comes back. Works better when you played it when it came out which I didn't
@@HunterForHire422 that doesn't undermine the craftsmanship in how things play out in SA 1 and 2. The value is in itself for make an emotional impact, it lends itself to be appreciated and not just a spineless cashgrab like Forces was.

The fact that sonic in his super form still flinched when Knuckles makes a joke attempt to punch him is so funny.
It’s a sonic 3 & Knuckles reference: despite having all the chaos emeralds when flying to angel island, knuckles was still able to knock the emeralds out of super sonic, and he’s supposed to be invincible by all standards.
The fishing spots in the first, third, and fifth world are easy to find because you can find them by just exploring casually, but the one in the second requires you to find a bunker on the west side of the map and find the route that leads to the fishing spot
I was expecting all the bosses to just be the same thing. But that was incredible.

Sonic frontiers probably just made the best argument for a robust public rail system that anyone has ever done.

I really hope this game gets patches, add ons, and dlc in the future. I think my only things i really hope for is boss rush, for them to fix pop in, and i also hope they make sonic faster in 2d cyberspace and maybe 3d too idk
Boss replays are a must, and really shouldn't be that hard to implement. Just add it to the title screen after beating the game once like Arcade Mode.

If they can't fully fix the pop in, at least do a fade in so it blends better you know? Sega probably hasn't done too many games like this so it's commendable for their efforts. Other than a few minor issues, unfortunately including the final boss, it has too many good points for me to think it's a bad game. I thoroughly enjoyed playing it and am proud of Sega for taking this leap with sonic that might have sank them. They showed effort and passion for a project despite others telling them its a waste of time, which I am thankful they didn't give in to. It needs work, but what open world project doesnt if theyre not known for that kind of game?
So Sage actually has optional cutscenes in each zone but usually she has much higher medal requirements than your friends. Still cool you can have conversations with the antagonist
The minigame where you round up the Koco hordes is practically identical to the gym challenge in Turffield in Pokémon Sword/Shield, where you're doing the same for a flock of Wooloo.
Oh sky diving is an amazing experience! Getting off the plane is the scarest thing. The rest, is ironically quite peaceful and quiet

I absolutely love the free roaming.
The cyberspace levels for some reason are very janky. Idk why, it's like the physics are programed different for them. Almost like they took the engine from Forces and dropped it in here. Sonic feels slow, boost does little for speed, and momentum is wonky at times. I do love the air boost and I've learned to abuse it for faster times lol
Outside of Cyberspace the game feels and plays great and I love his Speed
You just gotta get over the part where your brain expect them to play like Generations just because it looks like Generations and they'll be alot more enjoyable. It's why 1-2 is so hard at first for the S rank time, because how to actually do the time, flies in the face of past experience with Sonic games. You expect the top path and the orange rings that launch you are the best way, but you're faster if you just stick to the ground.
I love that sonic leaves a trail behind him. That mechanic was also used in pacman world 3 via power pellet
I hope he realizes he can Cyloop the bosses for an insane stagger animation
Regarding this game's Parry mechanic, the game doesn't have a tight parry window at all. In fact, you can just hold the bumpers to keep parrying until something hits you. So parrying is stupidly easy as compared to any Character Action game. On a side note it's also hilarious how you can just hold the parry buttons and hang in the air.
Personally, I wasn't too big a fan of the parry mechanic just because it required no skill to use. Kinda ruins the point of a parry imo.
I try to parry like you would in SSBU, but my time is off. At least again the second titan.
Still haven't watched the whole video but just in case: I HIGHLY recommend you get all the "Eggmemos" from Big's fishing mini game. They're incredibly fun to listen to and actually make the ending a bit better, a lot of past lore is mentioned too.
Just trust me and listen to them man, they're worth it.
Edit: Apparently he knows about them already lol. But either way, get them.
Another thing; if possible: wait for night time whenever you start the boss fights. The light show created by super sonic and the titans looks a lot better at night.

Well why not? Shadow has 2 fathers technically and one of them is an alien. Eggmans grandpa is shadow's surrogate father which makes shadow and HAS made shadow Canonically eggmans uncle and makes Maria shadow's niece. Gerald saw shadow as his son in his game too, so it's not that weird for sage to be eggmans daughter. Shadow the hedgehog was released in 2005, so the familial concept isn't new.

There is a Big fishing spot on every island. You just have to explore all of it to find the place. Besides, you can always return to the islands after you beat them.
I swear Big is a god. He's just chilling in his own little pocket dimension living the good life fishing.

To find the finishing spot you need to complete specifics challenges around the map. Remember where you found the koco that levels up either your speed or your rings? It’s close to there.
Suggestion: For the next islands if the Guardians and tokens are too hard for you to collect, just go fishin'

Game is love, game is life. So much room for improvement for the next game. Game did a great job setting up a base. This is on top of the great story and setup with boss fights.
If I could have one thing, I would want you to have to fill up a combo bar to use abilities, so you have to get in there and dodge/parry to get to use the powerful abilities.
I can't wait for him to see the rest of the game it gets so good.
Run in circles a lot to gain rings so you can take more damage without dying
I feel like people seem to forget that Sonic Boom...was a "different" thing. Knuckles was never "as" dumb as he was in Sonic Boom, but he has always been an idiot.
People also seem to forget that...for the 4 games Knuckles has been in since 2010, he wasn't even portrayed as stupid...he was just there.
So whenever people praise a game for not making him "too dumb to live"...it's faint praise, because that's never been Knuckles' problem.

You have access to all your other moves like the cyloop and special attacks. Just a heads up.
Legit, you have to just hold L and R to parry. No timing required other than "make sure the buttons are held down as thing is happening."

31:01 I laughed way harder at this moment than I should have. Sonic just winds up to throw Wyvern HARD at a cliff, and Choc just completely removes any impact that Wyvern hitting the cliff face would have had by editing in the Minecraft hurt noise. Incredibly anticlimactic, but really funny nonetheless.

It's Sky Rail. We got level layouts from older games including SA2. Some parts of City Escape, Green Forest, Sky Rail and Metal Harbor are in the game in Cyberstages. And I love it.
It runs fairly well on SteamDeck if you limit the FPS to 30 and put the shadows down to low (and I think it's reflections too, or something along those lines, in the options, I know there was something else I had to change). Apparently there's some weird bugs if you don't do that; Something to do with the texture mapping through Proton. You're free to leave alot of the rest of the stuff at high.
It'll still look better than the Switch version and play at the same speed (more consistent too, I hear the Switch version has some FPS dips), but with faster loading.
FYI if you get the auto chaining, be sure to turn it off in the options, otherwise it does it all the cool attacks on their own and the damage it does it worse.
Tbh I never noticed a difference since I already do the chains anyway
@@lihzzahrdspeed6631 it was noticeable for me as I realised I wasn't actually doing any of the movements and enemies I was mowing down on the same island relatively quickly were taking longer despite having the same attacks!

I feel like with a more Sonic adventure style to the levels and accessing them, through doing mini quests and such, that maybe end in a mini boss, this could be THE new sonic formula
For strider if you fall off right before the second set of harder rings you can continue with the first set of rings at the same health spot. Fun trick I discovered!

also Idk if you just have them edited out but I reccommend turning on the loading screen training sims, so you don't forget what finishers you have because they ALSO apply to super sonic and some even get special animations

Check the map and compass for red circles with question marks and complete these challenges. When completing all of them, you unlock the complete map and use the digital gates as quick travel. Btw the fish icon in the map is the fishing spot
