Which would explain he would probably need some form of translation active, an AI voice program to speak for him in the early stages, until his vocals at the least healed
Also, the Emperor made his suit as clunky and painful as possible, purposely ensuring that he'd be essentially crippled and in agony all the time. This was a punishment for his failure, as well as an attempt to force him to overcome his injuries, as the pain and frustration helped feed Darth Vader's connection to the Dark Side.

I guess theres kind of a silver lining, that being that third degree burns are so severe that the pain is actually dulled due to nerve endings in the skin being destroyed. I mean he'd still be in terrible pain (to say the least), but not as bad as it could be technically speaking.

This makes it easier to hear his different breathing sounds for in/out breaths. The damaged Vader breath sounds awfully like scuba gear underwater. Don’t know if this fact is real, but they do sound alike I think.
If any one was wondering how they made the breathing in the movies they used a scuba tank and just breathed through the mouth piece which would create the iconic breathing that’s how they made it behind the scenes
Vader could still talk... when he told Luke to take his helmet off to see his son through his own eyes (and not throught the helmet). When Luke took his helmet off, Vader could speak normally but a more older and weaker voice since he got electricuted by Emperor Palpatine.
What got me scratching my head is how they didn't even bother treating his wounds nor clean it, they just went "here's a life support suit, get in here. You good to go."

We already know the suit was designed to be painful, so that it would fuel Vader’s rage, but the fact he would constantly hear his own breathing was intended to drive him mad. I mean just imagine him trying to sleep but he constantly hears himself breathing. And it’s not like he can just stop doing something his body automatically does.
I find it interesting though that the iconic breathing sound is a diving regulator. So they used the sound of a machine to keep people alive underwater, to make the sound of a machine to keep people alive.
Such a great explanation for a fictional character in a fictional world for a surgery that never happened. It’s almost like anyone could make up any explanation and it would still be valid.
